Ewa Laurance "The Striking Viking" VS Florian "Venom" Kohler go head-to-head in a doubles match at the 2020-2021 APA World Pool Championships in Las Vegas!
Great idea for a match, I would watch a million more like this. As an APA member myself and also a 4 in 8 and 9 ball I cast my vote for more of these types of match ups.
This was cool... But you should give them more time outs, the interaction between the pro and the amateur is the most important part of it, and what makes it special...! Please do more of these. (mic'd up is a must)
Congrats to Jerrica for the MVP! Carrying her team in crucial moments and probably better average% then her teammate. Also, by making the best shot of the match, best kick shot of the match and best bank shot (dealing with the pressure of shooting the wrong shot because her team told her to ... she still made it!) the W is yours
That was an entertaining match. They all took some time to get into the groove. But when Florian did the masse it lit the fuse. The woman playing on team Venom was on fire!
I played Eva at world amateur golf's 19th hole in myrtle beach and surprisingly beat her. It was fun. It was only suppose to be one game but she leaned to me and said, you know it's best of 3 lol. She won the next two. Afterwards she said she didn't expect me winning.
I played Ewa Mataya in Dallas for the opening of a pool hall. We all picked numbers and mine won. I broke the 9 ball rack made a ball and ran to the 7. I hooked myself behind the 8 ball(sound familiar? lol). I left her a shot and that was it for me. This was 30 years ago and she was VERY striking in those days. I wish she would come back.
I think there should be Pro and amateurs playing in tournaments together. Not sure how the pros would feel about it but I'm sure the amateurs would like it.
Could you please make the hud of the scores, team names and the association crap like 10x smaller? You take up a 3rd of the screen and can barely watch the game because its so big and just distracts you from the game. Doesn't help we miss the very first shot by team viking that was a good shot all cause of some advertising crap.
That was fun to watch...I miss playing APA with all my friends here in Colorado Springs CO...I went blind in my left eye 6yrs ago...and stopped playing...went from a 7 in 8 and a 8 in 9 to not being able to make a shot...I recently went out and tried playing again...giving the eye a chance to rest...I was shocked on how well I did...except for long shots...and used the aiming method Venom's team mate used to help me out there...now just can't afford to play and really wish I could...but I did enjoy watching Florian's team mate make some amazing shots
@@bradenphillips4044 Nope, at least APA used to mean 'any pocket ahole', in eight too. Maybe that has changed. I certainly hope so. All that rule does is encourage bangers, MHO. In general nine, your statement is 100% true, even pro, except on the money ball. I heard nobody call anything here, and a few were far from certain, like the three railer attempted and amazingly completed by the APA four gal, Jerrico. She was doing better on the stellar level shots than the bread and butter simple stuff for a while there, and under the most pressure she's ever felt, I'm guessing. Great TV, she should be very proud of her showing here. Possibly the match of her life. Impressed the hell out of me. I'm a few levels above her, and I would be not embarrassed by this showing, under that kind of pressure.
i understand that APA is very popular, but there has never been a legitimate reason to call this game 9 ball. 10 point is what it is. The ONLY resemblance to 9 ball is the number of balls plus shoot in rotation.
Because this event was the National tournament for teams in APA, which is primarily a bar league. They can fit 400+ bar tables in the casino. There's thousands of players and hundreds of teams here.
@@XFS540 he is a professional trick shot artist if that's even a thing...he's not a professional pool player. 9 ball, 10 ball, 8 ball etc...I wonder what his Fargo score is. He would be out in the first round for damn sure
Uuuhhhhh, Dr. Cue, there's PLENTY of shenanigans in the APA. There's more sandbaggers in the league then there's been present at the last five major floods in the USA. The worst part is, the league operators all know it and can't do anything about it because they'd be out of a job and the league would fold.
Sorry to say, it's EVERY league I've ever played in, save the local one now, where sandbagging buys you absolutely nothing. A lot of it goes on even in handicapped contests like the one Sigal the mouth put on, where VERY significant money was involved. It is very very lame, and usually very very obvious, especially if you've played some of those guys for money outside the league, where you see them really open the throttle when it matters, and it is about three APA levels (if they had that many more of them above these guys levels, as they play at the top of the handicap) above their league play.
This was just an exhibition to sell some tickets.. Ewa's been done with this for quite a while, she's a league operator mainly now, she was really great back in the day.. Florian is really good at what he does but this isn't what he does.. It definitely would have been more interesting to watch if they didn't have these APA 4 leaguers screwing up the mix.. It limits the real players abilities to run out. I'll say "Nice Show" Ewa would have destroyed Florian if she actually had a Chance to warm up. This should have been a standard 1 on 1 race to 11 between the two..
I agree with most everything you say, except that I expect Ewa, in a real contest on real equipment, is still exceedingly good, especially by APA standards. Probably not pro level any more though, if she hasn't been practicing at that level, basically full time, and with full concentration and self stated goals, as you know much better than me and your moniker is true. If you are really a pro, you are likely (certainly actually) god level compared to me. Florian though, while obviously not pro level, is a superb amateur from what I've seen on his channel. Obviously he is a pinnacle god in artistic pool, borne out by titles. If you haven't seen them, go take a look at his channel's current carom trick shots. Amazing. Also his cloth off series is riot, you absolutely will not believe the action that occurs, comical at times, incredible (literally) at others. Cheers.

That being said, I've seen this with alot of artistic champions, it's like there brains aren't wired that way, there more for single massively hard shots.. and also remember, on his channel he does takes until his routine is perfect then aires the finished routine as a tv or movie actor does.. Yeah, he is Paul, go watch his channel. NOBODY should be judged on total crap equipment like that pile o' junk bar table with garbage cloth, atrocious inconsistent and unreadable rails (Ewa's comment on them was VERY generous), and balls about the roundness of a football (that one roll was hilarious) that appear to have the consistency of a carton of eggs. He's used to playing on tables like Rassons and Diamonds that he has at home that actually work, with 860 cloth and Aramith pros. Dumb comment. On real tables he runs eight and nine ball racks pretty consistently, and in one case ran a table with something like 32 balls on it, on video, on a lark. I linked Dr Dave the video and he put out a video of his success at the same challenge about two days later. :-) Florian also plays three cushion at a pretty high level for amateurs IIRC, and demonstrates three cushion artistic shots at a level few if any extremely high level carom players could accomplish. For a world class artistic pool player I can think of only one player in history that would exceed him at general pool, by a LOT in this case, Mike Massey, who did play high level pro level pool, with some major tournament titles to attest. You should maybe do some research BEFORE making totally ignorant comments. Venom's artistic pool is not only world level, but world championship level, as proven by being the owner of that title. Obviously he's not pro level at pool, but how many are, and I'm beyond pretty certain he could destroy you, likely nine or ten in ten. LOL Sorry to point it out, but your comment is on the level of the clueless people who say they could beat pros based on one lousy shot in a match. Pros who shoot 900+ on Accustat rating system in world level tournaments, on TV tables, where one mistake can spell an entire tournament loss. I always tell them, go put down 10K on a match with one, and tell me how that works out for you afterward. They would be absolutely embarrassed, guaranteed, even if they were absolute top rating in APA, and the pro was having a horrible day. Level wise, they are gods. I asked a friend once who came ONE MISSED BALL from winning the pro/am Australian snooker open years ago, playing singly, how much better pros were than very very good amateurs, and he said worlds. :-/ He showed me a shot once, three attempts to conversion, on a nine foot with significantly cut pockets, where he drew a corner to corner shot a full 11' and pocketed a rail frozen ball, at his shooting end, at the end phase of the shot on the short rail (the high cut angle) about 6" from the pocket. His two misses were very close. Incredible, those high level snooker players, and his near win was decades ago, so he's self admittedly not remotely playing at that level now. He runs eights and nines at a very significant % level, well over 50%. So I guess according to you he would be "no player" either?
@@MrJdsenior Show me said videos where Florian plays either for money or pro level tournament. Show me proof he plays at a pro level. Show me he plays at semi pro level. Where is this player you speak of? Where is this imbecile....hmmm?...where is he.
And the table, that thing is absolute bottom level crap, at least it certainly appears that way. Yeah, my Pros react just a bit differently. :-) My local pool hall manager was bragging because she got some new Centennial replacement balls at FOUR HUNDRED BUCKS. I said really, the pros (same balls) are MATCHED and I got mine for a small percentage of that price, new, from a legitimate online Aramith approved retailer. I can almost guarantee she will buy more centennials next time, too. That's what happens when hall managers play no pool whatsoever. The local owners and franchisers, now that's a whole different story. One has exclusively Diamonds, Aramiths, Simonis 860, and very good hall player cues, and plays at an absurdly high amateur level, not surprising since he used to support himself exclusively, roading. Unfortunately most of the tables are bar tables, but there are a couple of eights and one nine that is stellar. I LOVE those cushions.
