This song was written for Rocky III, when Rocky lost his mojo and got whooped by Clubber Lang aka Mr T.. and he was trained by none other than Apollo Creed his opponent from Rocky & Rocky II...
Originally Stallone wanted "Another One Bites the Dust" by Queen as the theme for Rocky 3, but for whatever reason Queen wouldn't let him use their song. So Stallone comissioned Survivor to write "Eye of the Tiger". (The band was inspired by rough cuts scenes from Rocky 3)... And the rest is music history.
Survivor "Eye of the Tiger" was the theme song to the 1982 movie Rocky III in which Rocky fights to take back the title "Clubber" Lang took from him. I went to see it with some buddies on the last day of school that year. The song has out lived the movie to become a standard fight song. It was a number one hit for more than a month that year. I remember digging the introduction because it sounded like The Police "Bring on the Night" and Stevie Nicks "Edge of Seventeen", but I also remember getting burned out on the song after hearing it on the radio too often.
I skipped school one of those days when the movie first came out, to see it with 1 of my friends, and we watched it at least 2 times that day especially being from Sacramento CA.
I play this song to get me through college. It got me through 2 degrees and is now powering me through my doctrine. it motivates me to keep going at 45.
The song was written by Survivor guitarist Frankie Sullivan and keyboardist Jim Peterik, and it was recorded at the request of Rocky III star, writer, and director Sylvester Stallone, after Queen denied him permission to use "Another One Bites the Dust", the song Stallone intended as the Rocky III theme.
Absolutely LOVED this song when it hit in the early 80's when I was in grade school. Got the album right away (Thanks Mom & Dad...my allowance wouldn't cover it)! Survivor has so many great songs and hits. Check 'em out more!
My daughter has her next scan on Valentine's day. Two years and 5 months into this battle with flHCC and 3 major surgeries and 1 cleanup surgery she is NED (no evidence of disease) and I hope to be able to say that after the 14th. This song can inspire one to continue fight when the odds are against you.
Jim Peterek who co wrote this song as a founder member of Survivor is still going strong with the AOR band Pride Of Lions I heartily recommend you listen to them. They sound just like Survivor and Journey did in the 80s even though Jim Peterek formed them in the 00s
Check out more Survivor when they brought in Jimi Jamison on lead vocals. Songs like, I can’t hold back, high on you and burning heart( from Rocky IV) great songs! RIP Jimi.
I hope you guys are still reacting to music on this channel when you reach 90 years old. You two beautiful soulmates are simply the BEST. Thanks for sharing your sweet love and helping to brighten our days!
I remember going to see Rocky III with my dad when I was probably 12ish. After the movie, I begged him to buy me the soundtrack because of this song!!👊🏼👊🏼
"Eye of the tiger" was recorded in 1982 at the request of Rocky III star, writer, and director Sylvester Stallone, after Queen denied him permission to use "Another One Bites the Dust", the song Stallone intended as the Rocky III theme
My goal is to one day be driving when this song comes on the radio and someone be jogging and rolling down my windows and turn it up and follow beside them!! lol
This one time at Band camp 🏕 I’m with ya Asia we played this in Marching Band when It first came out the 80s were HOT🎺🎷🎼🎤😎 We were like “Drum line” on the field at halftime long before that movie ever came out !!!
My Lieutenant at Fort Lewis used to play this song when we were doing the push-ups and sit-ups portion of the PT test, as a motivational tool. Everyone remembered it from the Rocky III workout montages! Keep up the good work, kids. I agree with my namesake, though, the live versions or even the videos are much more entertaining. 🙂
Leading up to the '84 Olympics in LA there were a number of pre-Olympic events around the US. I was in on and 'Eye of the Tiger' was playing everywhere you went. Definitely a result of the Rocky movie.
Im an 80s kid and if this shit doesnt getting you going. Nothing will. Great fucking jam. You trade your passion for glory is one the truest lyrics ever
Love your reaction, this is the year of the tiger..the survivors of the new year and the end of the pandemic, the year of the end game and the new year of the future and hope globally.

I went to see this movie (Rocky 3) and out of the blue the group survivor showed up at my small town in illinois theater (which was old school with the big velvet curtains) and no one new it was the real group until the pulled the curtains back. Everyone went CRAZY!! My town had about 10,000 population so no one expected it. Fun highschool experience! Everyone at school was so jealous ! 😊
Great reaction, great song...but can any lyric video creator get the lyrics correct!!!, they have one job and they can't get it right. How do you get 'It's the cream of the fight' and not 'It's the thrill of the fight'!!!
God I love this song. Rocky 3 did make this song more popular then it was because it was more well-known but other movies also used this song even some TV shows too
40 years 🎂. Written and produced by Jim Peterik and Frank Sullivan. 1 of 4 great songs from a 1982 movie 🎥 Music video was filmed in my hometown San Francisco 🌁 This is on Broadway Avenue up to Columbus Avenue. I love how the drums and guitars are like in the fight against each other. It's brilliant. This song makes you not want to quit on yourself.
"It's the cream of the fight." 🤣
I swear, these lyrics videos. How is it even remotely possible to hear cream?
Lmao😭😝😄😄
This is the worst lyric video I've ever seen. 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
Creampie of the fight

The singer David Bicker also did those awesome/funny Bud Light Real Men of Genius, tv & radio commercials.

You two were too funny today! About time we heard this killer song again. It will be a "rise to the challenge" theme a hundred years from now.
This band, Survivor also had a song in the Rocky 4 soundtrack called ' Burning Heart '

I loved this song the moment I heard it.
After the movie we went to the record shop and bought the 45. Played it so many time
When I used to bodybuild this song got me through alot of workouts when I didn't feel like doing it on many occasions....💪💪💪

Such a good song to get you moving. When I hear this song the movie comes to mind and I see Rocky working out. Good movie.

Sylvester Stallone asked for a song to be written for Rocky III (1982). It was written and produced by Survivor for Stallone.
