    I love this pedal, I've been using this for years, but since I play nu metal and Korn type riffs with my other pedals, it gives me a heavy low end. It really depends on how your settings are along with your amplifier and so on. I found my sweet spot with the pedal. Much luv & respect.

    I didn't mind it, but I swapped it out for the Death Metal which works a lot better for extreme metal guitar. The 3-band EQ offers a lot more control. It's still a wild beast, but a lot easier to take and get cool sounds out of. It does the dry/solid state scooped sound like Deicide pretty well, and it can even get almost chainsaw-like when cranking the mids. Maybe not objectively "good", but super fun and sometimes that's more important with extreme genres.
    That being said, I do think the Grunge is absolutely killer as a bass distortion. The crazy highs actually balance out with the lower bass notes pretty nicely and allows it to cut through. I really think that's the best use for it, especially in extreme metal.
    EDIT: your pedal isn't broken either. The gain knob is actually pretty much useless. Another reason I prefer the Death Metal over the Grunge. Very similar circuits, but the mid knob is MUCH better to mold the sound than the gain knob.

    I picked one of these up recently and the gain control does work, but even at minimum there's a ton of gain. Certainly more than you would likely use for grunge. This pedal is essentially the same as the DOD Death Metal with a few variations. Nice video!

    the grunge knob is definitely broken. source: I had this pedal for many years.

    Sounds like a good pedal for metal

    I like mine. But it is more like a late 1980's distortion pedal than a 1990's "Grunge" thing ...certainly not Death Metal... J.Dines does a really cool demo of this pedal... I also agree, with you about the RAT clone idea. Josh Scott from JHS said it was. I can't argue with a pedal builder.Some say it's a MetalZone Clone?.....If anything it sounds more like a milder Boss HM-2, with a little more DS--1 higher frequency.
    Thanks for the review. Thanks for listening............Have a nice day....Prosst!!!

    Lol, gotta love how the gain knob just does *nothing* and the thing is just always ALL GAIN ... I would think that knob is just broken, otherwise I'd wonder why it even is there and not just ejected from the pedal like with the Death Metal
    Could see this useful for, like, (harsh) noise music... especially the dual output would allow for some feedback shenanigans using a y-cable on the input (and maybe a volume knob in between output and input) - mind you, the Death Metal is also infamous for being used like that.
    But, yeah, for a guitar signal, those highs are... *an* interesting decision. There isn't much useful there... least not for guitar. The kickdrum might have a bump around 4k for that cutting click, which I would assume this pedal would get in the way of... and like, that weird extra bump when you crank the high knob... why does it boost around the very edge of human hearing?! Is this meant for cats? XD
    Overall, I do like the general distortion "texture" if you will (I just like the balls to the wall saturated, almost broken sounding insanity that is hell to mix even just decently) but the EQ is... not very useful and let's the entire thing down a lot ._ .

      Curious about the use of feedback. Do you know any video with a demo? thanks

    • @Silaan
      @Silaan Рік тому +1

      @@nimlhug138 to be fair, feeding back an output of something into itself is just a REALLY common tech... but I did find a vid talking about the Death Metal specifically just with googling for a moment... called "Noiseicians Love Digitech Death Metal" by SkueueMusic.
      ...you kinda can coax most audio devices into oscillation (and thus fun noise) just by employing feedback like that... even if you have no actual input into the device itself. For that madness, just look up "no input feedback" or "no input mixer" or something like that

      @@Silaan Oh boy. I was really into circuit bending 15 years ago and didn't know about it. I have a independent jack for the bridge pickup on one of my guitars, gonna try using that.
      Thanks for the info

    This is a great video. I have a question, Is it possible the pedal is defective? I tried one out years ago and the grunge knob worked. I was using a Jackson Dinky into a Marshall valvestate with the pedal.

      possibly... but a friend of mine told me it is working and that grunge just behaves like this

    I guess gain knob does not work coz you got pretty hot pickups and it has no way to go. This pedal does not clean up anyway i think

      Yeah, it seems to be common knowledge that the gain knob isn't the most sensitive 😅

    This is easily my least favorite from DOD/Digitech. It is just too extreme in all the worst ways. Also, as a Seattleite I can assure you that the true pedal of the Pacific Northwest is the Proco Rat.

    It's an odd pedal, not really usable for any genre in the typical standard accepted tones of a given genre...but it does have sound unique tones.

  • @micahj9828
    @micahj9828 Рік тому +1

    It's a clone of a Metal Zone with a 2 band eq. Bass control and a high filter only. Treat it as such and you'll have better (though limited) results.

    • @poopsock7991
      @poopsock7991 Рік тому

      It’s a modified Proco Rat circuit. DOD/Digitech says that themselves.

      @@poopsock7991 You're wrong af. Just compare the schematics. The values are ecactly the same just as said except.the eq section. The Grunge and Death Metal are Metal Zine clones with altered eq sections.

    maybe the worst distortion pedal I've ever used. Even Digitech Death Metal is much better
