Planet X1 documentary

- This is a preview of a new game I've been working on for a while for the Commodore VIC-20. Originally I had planned on porting Flash Attack to the VIC-20, but later on I realized it would be better if I could find a way to convert it to a 1-player game. So this is the concept I've come up with. It is still not finished, obviously, but I thought it might be nice to show people a peek at the game without making them download something and try to play it on an emulator.

From this to Planet X3, what a jump.
and now Planet X16!
I feel weird because I just watch Planet X2 beta gameplay lol
And it was great, although I like the ability to view 2 tanks at the same time like X1!
me to
I'm watching this after Planet X3 was announced... I feel old
U monster
Yes, I used the Acme compiler and VICE.
Man, back in the day...Like 1981...You would have made a mint if you advertised this game in Compute's Gazette. Impressive work. How much work would it take to make bots and tanks move in smoother steps rather than 8x8?
Here, the legend starts.
Can't wait for Planet X11 for the PS5!
You really should come back and finish this one. The Vic community would enjoy it. I know I sure would. Been playing it a lot tonight.
You can download it in the current state from the8bitguy website under "DAVID'S SOFTWARE" for free.
Looks great. I would've loved this way back when I had my VIC 20.
Man, David has been working on the Planet X games for mor than 10 years...
Ikr
So you weren't lying that this game was made in 2009.
Thank you for posting this on your website, this was one of the first games that I played when I got my SD2IEC!
wow, i love the game, planet x3 looks awesome in comparison, but this is great too
The balding process was already in effect. 8 Bit Guy already lost some of his hair. I expected more hair to be in his head.
Strange, I've been a sub for 5 years and just now has this shown up in my recommends. Not even your newer X2 - X3 vids does this get recommended.
It’s so much fun to come back here now and look at this!
Hi David. I stumbled upon this while checking out the C64 version. I love the concept and it plays brilliantly. Any chance you'll release this WIP version or versions? Even better, include the betas of both to the purchasers of the actual final game as an extra. Looking forward to it.
I am from the future:
Planet X3 is out!
insert generic name here I AM FROM 2021
It's a shame this game wasn't completed. It looked so promising. Still thanks for the glimpse and heres hoping that you might revisit this someday.
He's making a sequel
Nice work! :)
this is the least viewed video out of all of his videos
Which is a bit strange, because I guess it is a hell of a game on the VIC-20.
MacBook 13” hard drive vid
How tho
Only 32K views? This needs more
wow your game came along way ! cant wait to play planet x2

And here I am, wondering if a planet x4 will happen
Very cool. I've dreamed of programming a game too, since 2007. Pray hard for me, that it happens this year & it'll be very successful.
@SevenDeMagnus make a video of it, it would be awesome
@Tapewormz - That would be pretty hard on the VIC-20. Not impossible, though.
cant wait for the 3rd one to come out
Happy early 15th anniversary planet x1!!
fantastic
Wow. I am back in my friends basement in 1983. The VIC-20 was cool, but he soon replaced it with the 64 which offered Summer Games and Castle Wolfenstein. I didn't play vids after that until the Nintendo 64.
I have a TI99-4A sitting in my basement.
Ha! Thanks for the memories!
it is year 2045 and we have now Planet X9 created by David on retro game console called Playstation 5
"Obviously, you can't drive over water"

@adric22 Well, grats on your project. I just started learning assembly, and I'm applying it to a c64 emulator until my package arrives. It's something I wanted to do way back in the day, but I was only 10 and couldn't afford the books, or the assembler at the time.
I can't believe I just found this video!
Awesome, again, you must have a lot of spare time
Looking good dude! I can't wait to sit down and play this. :)
It's on his website now. www.the8bitguy.com
@@antihumor2231 euh, sorry to tell you,
youre 9 years late.
*yes i know im 3 months late but you get the point*
@@Upwader and im 3 weeks late to tell you that you where just a little too late
Are you alive?
How have I not spotted this video before?
Great! very nice game!
Very cool. I'll add a link for you on some of the C= boards.
This reminds me a lot like StarCraft.
cool game, is it finished? also you plan to make the c64 some day? I'll be interested for sure!
I know you are going to make an X2 video in the future but can you also make one on the X1 and make it like a full documentary like 15min or more?
Jack Kraken The X3 already has gone out.
Really? I thought it was still in development
Okay,i found this after Planet X3 for DOS.Im interested still.

Dude is a stud
Don't know.. I haven't pulled my real VIC-20 out of the attic yet to try it.
+The 8-Bit Guy You have now in 2017.
@@Connie_TinuityError He knows.
Hey David, sorry if I feel a little weird considering the fact that I have a brother named David which is NOT you, but there is a replying feature on UA-cam. Also on your videos, if you see a comment you really like, you can pin it, and it is also a must. What's funny about pinning comments is the fact that you can pin YOUR OWN comments. Give a like if replying to comments is really easy and neater, and pinning comments is REALLY COOL.
Disclaimer: The downside of pinning comments is on a video, only 1 comment will be pinned at the same time. If you pin another comment, the other comment will be (UN)pinned.
Do you think I should shut up? I think I should.
DSX12kid kámè64 I know I’m almost a year late but hey you were like 8 years late. Back when he wrote that there was no replying or anything like that. He knows now
Reminds me a lot of Bolo on the mac and Firepower.
and its out today!
I always thought Planet X2 was his first game, and wondered why it was X2 when X1 doesn't exist. Turns out it _does_ exist lol.
Planet X1 2 3 and now Plnet X16
iBookGuy, great concept. Would you like to see this game re-made in a modern engine? For now, I don't have plans on doing it, but seems simple enough and at some point I would like to recreate it, of course only if you are ok with that.
iBookGuy
did you use cross-development tools on pc/mac?
I would love to play this on the NES
VIC-20: 5 KB RAM, C64: 64 KB RAM. 8-Bit Guy: Only difference would be improved graphics. Hehe.
I wish it did have two player. One person could use a joystick and another person could use the WASD keys.
if this is multiplayer will be much cooler :)

Anyone here in 2021?
beans
that’s a short documentary
Wonder if this could be done on the PET?
Bump
2.7k views. WOW o_O
Considering he has 320k subs thats a low number. Probably since this is one of his older videos
what is this game you play?
Wow much old
I wonder why we can't buy planet X1
@@TauGeneration you can download it off his website apparently
Cant seem to get this to run on my vice emulator
Were you able to get it running on your vice emulator?
@@LuisGuzmanJr yes I got it working after messing with a few setting
Ya
LOL
this is how i play planet x2 for free
am i the only one with no sound?
Nope, there's no sound anymore.
lol
Mic
the audio is quite irritating
