- I look at two fabulous new Kaigelu 316 pens. Great resin, excellent nibs, write well. I like them. Lighter than the original 316.

What an enjoyable video. Very nice pens--I'll take a look for them online--fantastic ink, and best of all, a puppy. Wow.
I have Herbin "Orange Indien" ink, and it is one of my favorites, but I was blown away by the "Cornaline d'Egypte" ink. I might have to get it, too. The match with the orange Kaigelu is amazing.
Thanks for watching! These Herbin inks look great. I find they tend to dry out on nib in a few days in all the pens I use.
I've been thinking that a Kaigelu will be my next Chinese pen, and this video is another encouragement.
Love the new pup! As my (b)rat terrier is 15, a pup is something that I'm going to be looking for, sooner than later, I'm sure.

ahhh, yeah. I just got the blue one and I absolutely love it. Gorgeous acrylic and what a great nib! I use mine for drawing so I go for the fines and extra fines, mostly. My only gripe is the converter twist knob gets stuck half way up. So, I can't get a good fill. I ordered a couple replacement converters. fantastic video. You make me want/need allll the versions of this baby.
Easy to disassemble converter, metal ring unscrews. Clean out, silicone grease & reassemble should be as good as new. Thanks for watchig.

I just got my Kaigelu 316 yesterday. Took about 4 weeks thru AliExpress. I ordered the grey marble version with the EF nib. I found that it takes an international long cartridge (Edelstein). Is is beautiful in appearance and manufacturing. The EF nib is unbelievably smooth and as you mentioned, there is a bit of line variation. I am not a calligrapher but like some line variation when I write. This is wonderful performance,quality and value.

The ink is gorgeous! I've made the same experience that glitter ink works better in a juicy medium than in an italic nib. My favorite "glitter nib" is a springy Pelikan M200 with a looot of ink flow.
Also, your dogs are amazing! Looking forward to the inevitable puppy review. I have a feeling that this one might get the full 10 points with three checks for cuteness.
I'm happy for your excitement about the e-bike. I don't have a car and do everything by bike (or train). I would love get an e-bike at some point, especially for summer when I want to arrive at work in dry clothes.

No question, Kaigelu 316 & 316A are best values at about $22. Medium nib is fantastic and fine is said to be similar. Smooth thick lines--only difference between this and more expensive pens is the barrel beauty and these don't look too bad either. It's not worth spending so much more for a prettier acrylic when it's all about the nib.

YOWZA. I got the blue one just now. My first Kaigelu. The color is even more beautiful when in your hand. Medium nib ( more like a broad which I love) and Noodlers Blue Eel.The nib is like “Buttah”. One of the smoothest writers I have ever had. Thanks for the great review!
Very nice video! Great pen presented in your usual super informative fasion. To that, a tad family information and as the icing on the cake: bike news! As with pens it is with my bikes. I have enough for every need, and to last my life-time and beyond :-). Intelligent pedal assist sounds like the way to go! Looking forward to further bike news from you!

Very nice analysis. The air hole seems larger in new 316, following Conklin here, and I think that improves ink flow and smoothness. I'm getting one.

very thorough review, thank you for this! I got mine yesterday. Purple, but oddly enough the material below the cap band is a pink/blue material... maybe it was an accident, as that's not how it looked in the product photos. Oh well, haha. It still definitely is a nice pen!
I was thinking about purchasing the purple, but maybe I'll go with the blue if the color doesn't hold true.. how deep of shades of purple are in this pen..?
I bought a purple FPR and it's so dark purple it's almost black.. very disappointed from what the color looked like in the ad..

Bike delivered last week, review a few weeks away. The rear tire tube blew when I inflated it. I suspect a defective in tube or the tube was twisted. Bike ships with no air in rear tire. I suspect the tire was never inflated . Now I'm faced with removing rear wheel in a ebike. Watched some videos have an idea of what to do. Need to build a stand for handlebars to keep display off floor when I invert the bike. My eye recovering slowly so this task is more challenging than it should be. I'm looking forward to riding. My old Kaigelu 316 got a new home because of its weight. The new model is really tempting!
Thanks for the great overview. Personally I like the 316 over the Jinhao 100. It feels better and the nib writes better. Now recently Jinhao has upped their nibs and are wonderful.
I know it is a personal preference. I would hope Kaigelu releases a new model.

Congratulations on the eye surgery, the new bike, and the puppy! Maureen and Milo are both beautiful! I've had my eye on this new 316 for a while... Have two actually sitting in my eBay cart for like two weeks. You convinced me to pull the trigger on them! I've got an older one that's phenomenal, so I think I'm going to take dig the new model. That is a real gusher of a nib. It's a beautiful pen and ink combo. I may have to pick up one.

Great review Cbris. Hope you are recovering well from your surgery. I have the Blue new Kaigelu 316 as well as 3 of the transition models and 3 of the original ones. All of mine write great and just like your review my new model also writes with a very wet smooth line so great for my " drier" saturated inks. Writes great on the reverse side also. Looks like a great pen but..... I'm not a fan of gold plated rings, even less if they have any kind of engraving. If this pen had plain silver details I would not thin twice. It's just a matter of personal taste of course. Great video as always.
Very few if any of these "Duofold" designs have silver trim. For me I enjoy all colors of trim. Thanks for watching.

Its a great pen. They have really upgraded their color choices and clips. The old Tiger Eye was beautiful but the new design definitely separates them from a bunch of other parker “based” designs.

Thank you for this detailed video Chris, excellent review. I just checked on AliExpress and there seems to be new finishes in aqua, amber and white. They’re labeled as “New 316A”, I’ll definitely be purchasing one of these, they look too beautiful to pass up. Also love puppies.
I’m contemplating whether to get a kaigelu 316 or a Fuliwen 017. Both have medium nibs which I’m looking for but the Fuliwen has a larger section. In your opinion, which one is more comfortable to you? What nib do you think writes better? I heard the qc for kaigelu nibs isn’t that consistent. Thank you as always.
The 017 & 316 feel & look very different. Both have every comfortable sections. With the "new" 316, balance is very good, nibs are good, yes one can get a "bad" nib on any pen. All nibs I've used were good. So I'd get a 316, unless you love the look of the 017.

Hi Chris, very interesting in this electric bicycle. I see it has pannier racks o the back, you will have to invest in some pannier bags now. As you know I have a passion for all things cycling, currently, I am riding a cyclocross bike which is like a cross between a mountain and a road. Oh, and how cute are the dog's yay, congratulations on the new puppy. Also, I am glad all went well with the eye doctor :)
The rear tire tube blew as I was inflating (ships deflated to fit better in box. I have a tube but removing rear wheel with motor will need to wait till I recover in a few days. So I think about riding it.
@@chrisrap52 I always find the best way to inflate my tires is to use a floor pump. A quick tip when you drop out the rear wheel and slide it back in make sure to line up the disc rotor, I always find the rotor rubs the pads and makes peddling harder. I so can't wait to hear all about your new adventures on the bicycle. Now it must be getting warmer there you have plenty of time to cycle and take the dogs out.
I have a small electric pump that has a pressure gauge & turns off when reaches set pressure. Have inflated many tires with it, works slowly, Bike was upside down, tire should have filled ok. I;ll keep you updated on bike & pus.

Beautiful pens, but the nibs look a tad too wet for my personal preference. That said, it's nice to see Chinese pen makers - not just Kaigelu - continue to iteratively improve quality. I'm surprised and delighted by the remarkable strides they have made in the past five years. There are now a great many genuinely excellent FPs coming out of China, irrespective of their prices points. I hope the new Chinese wave will force established brands to offer better value AND better quality. Cough cough, Visconti, Pneider, Parker, Sheaffer, Montegrappa, Conklin, etc.

I have my eye on the Kaigelu 316 for quite a while now because I love the design.
There are so many reasons why everytime I considered it I decided against it for categorical reasons. But after seeing your review I'm tempted again.
For some colors I would prefer the old model and now I'm afraid I have to hurry ore else they will be sold out. Though I have to admit the new bigger nib is more attractive. As you praise the new nib so much - is the writing quality better than with the old model? If the nib is better now this would count against buying an old model.

@@chrisrap52 That one definitely caught my eye. The M700 is less than the Bock-equipped M800, though, right? I was looking at the stripes and trying to will myself not to default to blue (again). I couldn't decide, so I just bought another PenBBS 308 instead. Looking forward to your review!

No 356. Looks like a 316A (new 316 label) with rounded ends. I did order another 2 of the new 316 in other colors. I like having a complete set. I enojoy square ends over rounded ends.

So, with all due respect; at the end of the day what's better K316 or J100??? Do not want to sound intrusive or anything like that. Just have my doubts as I am looking to purchase another affordable fountain pen.
Both are good. Matter of personal preference. I choose the 316. Just slightly better, design, build & nibs.

I really don't like their acrylic color choices. Plus, it costs twice as much as a Jinhao 100.
