I made a few wrong assumptions in this video. Nebulae can also grain like Clouds and Beads, but it's been underdocumented and hiding behind alternate functions. Qu-Bit made a new manual and now it all figures out. Still, I believe it excels in microsound exploration. The phase vocoder makes the best smooth repeats of all modules I use.
Easter Egg: Pressing the SOURCE button for longer than a second will save the current selected file / speed / pitch and recall it after a power cycle! (Not in the manual...)
@@sentimental7167 you don't "get out of it" but you can reset all secondary values back to the default (CCW all secondary small knob functions) by long press and hold Source and short press Pitch. The led buttons will flash when it is executed.
Howdy! I’m also a Neb2 owner that would love to see you delve more into it. In particular, the record IN function. I have a number of Qubit modules and I echo a previous commenter in saying that their video presence, vis a vis demos of their sublime devices, is woefully insufficient online. Hats off AND kudos for your content and your aesthetic; an electronical oasis and inspiration!
Revisited this video (and many others) following recent correspondence re granular processors- and what was looking like a choice between this and the ADDAC 112 is now looking like a Nebulae no-brainer. In addition, I’m finding that my 2hp Loop and TM modules offer most of what I’m looking for in a looper in just 4hp the pair! The ADDAC is huge and Lubadh seems very flawed. I think I’ve saved myself many many ££ by not making an impulse buy! Thank you!
It's been an honor to help you pick the right tool for the right job :)! I think you made a good decision since you already own the V1. And you can try my Realms alternative instrument!
Hi great video. Thanks. I want to buy a granular module so I'm exploring Arbhar, Morphage and this Nebulae v2. Nebulae v2 is my most favorite now. @4:29 Binaural 3D "Pile driver looper".. What is this another mode/instrument?
To be honest, I don't think I'll ever get an ADDAC 112 mysellf because I already have plenty of granular gear. Sorry about that. I am not sponsored or affiliated so I have to make wise choices (as wise as possible).
@@CinematicLaboratory Ok understand. You make excellent videos, clear and concise. Perhaps sponsorship will come one day when they realize how good you are. I like your format very much.
Japanese flutes and synths, many of the same interests and esthetics it seems. I wouldn't mind being your friend. :) This session sounded so damn insane in my headphones
Cool you've noticed. I recorded everything in Binaural 3D and when you use it in a stereo granular synth, all the space information is maintained. So indeed it sounds totally super on headphones.
the part where you run plaits through strega is so amazing. could you get into a bit more details as to what's going on there and what nebulae is doing exactly?
I have a blend knob.. When it’s “wet” or “dry” It still does it’s thing but does it different when there is no input at the input jacks. What is going on between the two ?
As far as I could figure out, 'blend' blends between two granular algorithm, vocoder whatever (smooth) and grandular when you're in file mode. When you're in source mode (incoming signal), it blends between wet and dry input.
I can relate to that, it was virtually the last granular module I got but I think it has something to do with the relatively modest marketing effort of Qu-Bit. My next purchase will be a data bender :)
@@CinematicLaboratory I predict you will have a blast with Data Bender, whether used in the extreme, or nuanced and subtle, likewise I'm reasonably confident 'Scanned' would suit your particular timbral explorations, particularly when fed into/through other devices. [2c]
That does sound amazing. One to consider for the future. Have you taken a look at the new Granulator mode in Disting EX? There's a *lot* of menu diving to wade through but the results are pretty impressive.
No I did not. Disting EX is amazing, but too generic for my taste. For me, granular synthesis is my favorite in modular and I'd prefer dedicated modules for that. I have a MK4 but I don't use it a lot. I always have to go to the manual to do something simple.
Accessing some files on the card can be a bitch .. same with record in isn’t implemented well. If stuff is not out of a folder on the SD card I can have to pull it out of the Folder to access it
I also had that problem. The total number of files exceeded 75 MB so some files just did not load. So you have to manage your files which is a bummer. I'll definitely going to send a 'wish list' to Qu-Bit. I can think of may things that could be improved, like session folders so it's easier to prepare 75 MB batches for performances.
@@CinematicLaboratory What would be nice, if this is 'the max', would be a way to access folders, like 'load next folder'. That would save 6 USB drives on me desk 😏
Yes I did, but the module froze on me repeatedly and I had a hard time restoring the original firmware. So my experience wasn't to write home about. But I am convinced our mutual friend from San Diego will uncover its mysteries and share it. Regardless, it's a great module and thanks for giving me another jam subject :). My new guitar adventures are great for some microsound exploration Nebulae style.
@@Trovarsi In my humble opinion: If you already have a Morphagene you may want to reconsider. If you want the best possible smooth elastic sample pitch/time stretcher in eurorack then maybe you should go for it.
Thanks for your request, but I am not going for it since I rely on two Arbhars and the Lubadh. This channel is self-funded so I need to make decisions. Also, I am not sure if the Nebulae would be a keeper on its own, but I have a custom 'Realms' app running on it that was inspired by me and developed with Studio48nl. My honest advice is to go Instruo, especially with the new Lubadh firmware. Who knows what Arbhar will bring in the future...
@@CinematicLaboratory see i thought maybe you have experience with the addac112 as i cant decide what to buy i would be interested in your experience or opinion on addac vs morphagene etc.
@@dmg-electrique7292 I'd recommend checking out what Omri Cohen's experience was. In the end he sold the Addac, simply because it was too big and Ithinkthere was a limitation with looping. But he's a very reliable source.
This was a first patch video because I recently got it. But I love the sound and I will make more videos about it. I had to reinstall firmware after my first alternative firmware experiment. Not easy...
The manual is a bitch... has errors in it and repeats a lot of stuff again and again. I did make a cheetsheet, but also the double functions when holding source 'is a mess' in the manual.
Great video and amazing sounds. It also seems very quiet, as in no noise. I’m thinking about swapping my Morphagene because the hiss it produces drives me mad. How’s your experience with Morphagene concerning this hiss aka extremely irritating noise infecting your entire system.
I also experienced a high pitched noise from the module itself which was really annoying, but after replacing the power supply from my makenoise CV case with a 'medical grade' power supply (Meanwell GSM) the noise was near gone. I never experienced noise in the signal path but the Shared System's DPO is super loud so if there's a noise floor, it's totally wiped away by the oscillator.
@@CinematicLaboratory I've got a MW65B in my case, but maybe I'm pushing it a bit too much. I have a new case coming with a lot more juice: that might help. I don't mind noise (not at all) but hiss is something else.
