This video is about removing the toilet flange prior to pulling out the subfloor. This is probably NOT the most efficient way of removing the flange in general, but I went with it. I was going to have to replace the elbow under the floor anyway. There are flange removal tools that pros use, but they cost somewhere in the $100 range, which was not practical for my limited use.

Thanks. Acquiring the know-how can be tough, especially when you run into situations that don't "follow the book". This project has definitely challenged my problem-solving abilities :-)

Mine was also a outside fitting but I had a bunch of black mold on my subfloor around the flange so I had to take out that part of the floor anyway so it made it easier to see the bottom of the flange and where I was cutting. I tried cutting around the outside first but the dremel wouldn't reach the pipe from that angle so I just tried from the inside and that worked beautifully. But If I didn't have to take the sub floor out and didn't have a dremel I prolly woulda did what you did.

I appreciate the feedback. None of my bathroom remodeling videos are "how-to" videos. I'm simply documenting my experience, and I've had to make corrections to certain things as I've gone along. Feel free to share your thoughts on how to do it better. Thanks.

Thanks for making this video! Watching this one and a few others of yours has solved some issues that I've been frustrated with for several days on a project of my own. I've subscribed to your videos and intend to watch all of them. Great job!

I wouldn't say that this is the most efficient way of removing the toilet flange, but it worked out fine in my case. Thanks for watching.

i just did mine and using a dremel with a diamond blade is a good way to cut the flange from the inside out. took about 10 seconds with a nice clean cut.

The joys of black mold :). Even though I would have liked to have taken a more surgical approach, I inevitably was going to have to replace the elbow. The previous owner replaced the flange at some point and only left a couple inches of pipe after the elbow; the floor height will be changing. They also make a wheel for cutting around the interior circumference of the pipe, which I almost bought. I'll definitely keep the Dremel in mind for my other bathroom. Thanks for the tip :)

Nice video. I am not sure that I would do it the same way but this vid was Super helpful for us with our bathroom re-do. Basically confirmed what we are seeing. Thank you for taking the time to post this. Cheers!

I'm not sure I'd do it this way if I had it to do over :-) I hope things go well on your project.

I thought about cutting the pipe, but there was only a few inches of pipe after the elbow, and it was right up next to the floor joist.

My main goal with removing the flange was just to get the subfloor out. I wasn't all that concerned with it being pretty, since I figured I could clean it up later. Thanks for the non-constructive criticism.

So basically it doesn't actually come off at all.

No, I couldn't break the flange loose; it was welded pretty well to the pipe using ABS cement. There is a product called "Flange-Off" (see video description) that appears to make quick work of the removal, but it was not cheap. Someone suggested a Dremel with a diamond blade could also take care of it.

Very nice. I just bought a Dremel a few months ago (I still have yet to put it to work), and I didn't have one at the time of this video :-(. I'm trying to picture how that would work: Was your flange inside or outside-fitting? Mine was outside-fitting. Thanks.

Where is your video explaining how to do it? Frank has now creditability. Hoopfan71 I just started my bathroom remodel and I am impressed by how clean and organized you are, you lack a little know how but that comes with research and hands on practice.
