- Most automotive outlets, including Motoring TV, concentrate on new car reviews, yet many consumers are shopping for used or "previously owned" vehicles.
So with that in mind we introduce you to Yuri & Jakub, simply good friends, with limited disposable income, who enjoy driving together. - Авто та транспорт
I have a 2006 Matrix XR that I bought new in 2005. It is the best car I have ever owned, and I am 70-years-old. Only non-maintenance repair in 13 years was a broken gas tank strap (luckily, there are 2 of them - lol). I can still kick it up to 80mph on freeways with no shimmy or vibration. It just turned over to 60K miles, and the guy that valets at the garage where I park it has been trying for years to buy it from me - no way. It gets about 35mpg highway, and I hope to drive it until I croak.
is yours awd or 2wd?
@@torontoguy8043 2wd
What do you get for gas mileage?

I have a 2007 Matrix. I'm 20 and it's my first car. It's a great car!
My wife has a 2006 and she is 27 now and I'm pretty sure she got it when she was 17.
Shawn Warnick was there any problem in the car in these 10 years
@@fazlayrabbee2833 I use a '09 Matrix and haven't had any awful issues. My gas line froze in -30F one winter, and squirrels lived in / ate some cables inside the car that had a high repair cost of around $1,000. Other than that (both due to outdoor storage), it's been very reliable.
How many mpg does it get?
Love the ending..."What's the best part of the plastic floor?"..."Quick unloading!"
My Dad had one of these for years, until he had a major engine problem (which wasn't the car's fault, it was due to a problem on a sketchy road) and I remember this was my favorite of all the cars that my family has had. Watching this video brought back some serious nostalgia
I had a 2005 Matrix 4WD XR and, let me tell you, I used to blaze through the snow. That was amazing. I moved all kinds of stuff, too--loved the completely flat floor. I should never have traded it in, damn it.
How many mpg does it get?
I love this car. So much. Like you said it doesn't lie about ANYTHING. it just is what it is. I got so used to driving this around that my friends cheap daily drivers look like posers lol
The Straight Pipes boys!
Finally some youthful perspective!
Quick unloading was nice! I did buy my Matrix for utility. you can fit 8 ft long two by fours Into it. I moved an entire shopsmith Mark 5 not all at the same time but it fit.
LOVE LOVE LOVE the unloading!!!
I have had the 2007 Matrix for 10 years, i now have 300,000 miles on it with less than 6000 in maintenance spent, i bought to commute back and fourth to work, its been an amazing car, its also great for taking the dogs to the lake and helping friends move. GREAT Car, not sorry in any way that i bought it, its just sad that people dont see you in time and love to tailgaters , i have been rear ended 4 times. the car will blow the doors off any car on the highway its fast, not sure why they say its not in this video, because it does. not a bad buy or i just got the best of the cars that was made that year. :-)
Mary Awtrey I own a 2006 XR and it's a actual car compare with many new Cars that dealers sell right now, I love my car.
Mary Awtrey If you're a poke along, that would be the reason for so many tailgaters. Also for getting rear ended, try not stopping quick at the last second.
Mary Awtrey. Stiil have the matrix?
What mpg does it get on the highway?
@@curtis1951 About 34 highway and 27 city.
I bought this car brand new and it still runs great. I plan on getting another car in a few years and tricking out my matrix to be a mini camper. I cant wait!
Great feature Motoring TV! Can't wait for more. Love the natural approach to the review. Unloading was hilarious!
I've had my 04 matrix xr since it came out. It now has 430k miles (odo reads 299,999 but i keep a scangage). The only thing that gave up on me was the output shaft bearing in my 5 speed transmission when it hit 400k. Luckily it broke down close to my house. I replaced it with a celica gts c60 transmission. It feels a bit faster, but because the rpms sit a little higher. The 1zz still runs like a champ! It's a very slow, basic commuter car, but it suits my needs, especially on high mpg. I get 40mpg in the HWY on flat, ideal conditions, but usually linger around 38.
That's fantastic. Not many cars that modern can last so long, I believe.
Love what you guys are doing!!! Im a new subscriber! Please continue to look for older cars to review.
Awesome, can't wait to see more used car reviews!!!!
Most reliable car ever. 198k miles on mine and counting.
How many mpg does it get?
Years later...I watch this, and I wonder...is this where the visor test came from?!
it has stock tie down systems that you overlooked for the sliding cargo
I own a 2008 Toyota Matrix TRD manual transmission. 225k KM still runs like new. It has withstood all kinds of abuses. Quick, reliable, and good on gas.
How many mpg does it get?
@Hendi Lim haha 225,000 kilometres is NOTHING for a Matrix. A Corolla 2005 with 1ZZ-FE shared with matrix just sold with 736,000 kilometres last week. It was in Victoria BC with original engine & tranny. I too have a Matrix, it’s a silver 2006 base auto 244K kilometres with only option being A/C ( it still works ) these cars are bulletproof, & they don’t tend to rust that much. Me being a Canadian I’m familiar with other rust bucket cars.
Toyota knocked a homerun with this Matrix. I have the 5 speed sunroof model 190K it drives like it's brand new plus it's got 110V AC power outlet. Not the red or blue pill it's the best pill, brah.
How many mpg does it get?
Great short video and very funny. Worth it 👌
180,000k miles and counting!
What about now? Just got one at 207k
The matrix is a Corolla, with a hatchback.
Great video 👍
is this like the start of the straight pipes? Like an origins car review?
😆Quick unloading...Love it!
I just got a Toyota matrix love it I also have a Pontiac vibe
Matrix and Vibe are the same car just different brand names. I guess you have 2 reliable cars now.
@@raphaelumeh2362 my Pontiac has a Toyota motor In the matrix is a twin to the Pontiac and Toyota Corolla
I like both my cars both little tanks
@@mandyriffle4090 I bet you do. Enjoy it for us all and safe driving.
@@raphaelumeh2362 thanks
I learned something I never knew about my 2005 Pontiac Vibe #sunvisor
UA-cam algorithm brought me.. anyways ya I'm a matrix fan..had a few come threw my hands and loved the car except the low power..owned a xrs and no torque just power at 7k rpm totally undrivable power band...what to do..hmm🤔 no problem..ya so I bought a clean original 03 white XR 5 speed not a ding on it with a blown c59 transmission for a thousand bucks and custom built a truly amazing car..all JDM 1zzfed bored out/steel sleeved to 2.0..c60 5speed ..no not c60 6 speed..4 wheel disc/anti lock.. 17" matrix wheels 2 stage factory white paint..08 clip/grill..all japanese Toyota parts..it's beautiful and fast..it's what Toyota should have made in the first place..
I don't know why, but odometer on those cars stops at 299.999 ,and the car still runs like a champ 4 year after about 420.000 on it right now. 2starters,2alternator , 10 sets front brakes, 4 sets rear brakes , 12 sets of tires ,2 divers side door handles, clock spring, power steering pump, and 2 power steering rail, 4 batteries. Spark plugs coils, 4 timed front rotors, 2 times rear drums.
PIZZA DELIVERY CAR. IN 15 YEARS AROUND $250.000 income -$for car it's self an maintenance.
It's dumb that Toyota odometers have that problem, but it's good that the car last so long! I think I've heard that some people on eBay can repair the odometer glitch. Maybe I'm wrong though.
Well actually they can't be fixed but the mileage could be reset and you'd have to place a sticker in the car to describe the true mileage.
I also got my 2004 Toyota Matrix a couple of days ago and it has 124000 miles on it.It really runs good. I think I got a great deal
How much?
Damn this car is awesome
Quick unloading !
I have a 06 Matrix Xr yes the 1zz is pretty slow but damn its reliable! I got the 5 speed and first 3 gears are all redline while last 2 are mid and although its slow but i got no issue passing on the highway and even reach 100-120mph every now and then considering how slow this car is
The XR is a slow turd you guys should've test drove the XRS model with the 2ZZ-GE it's fast and can keep up with a lot of cars also the Matrix isn't an SUV that's stupid to even say it's one step up to an SUV it's a Sports Wagon converted into a Hatchback.
How many mpg does it get?
Around 30 mpg
Kool
The first visor test, haha
Toyota needs to bring the Corolla Wagon to North America tor replace this legend of practicality!
Thinking about buying one but heard the 2007's have transmission problems
@North Country Outlaw nope you might be confused with a different Toyota. They have Corolla parts & my grandma had a 2007 Corolla, she never had a transmission problem ever. I’m talking about the automatics. There’s no transmission difference in 1st Gen Matrix automatics. Aisin transmission that is known to run for 800,000 kilometres. If you’re talking about the manual transmissions, well that whole bearing issue was from drivers that forgot to change the manual transmission fluid ( AKA gear oil ) splash lubrication. Again, I’ve seen the manuals last a LONG time too. Did you end up getting one. If you ever have any Matrix questions don’t hesitate to ask me. I’ve got a silver 2006 model
The boxes slide because they're empty probably :P
I have a 2004 XR and this things are sunt slightly faster then a NA miata.
holy shit my car was where the visor test was born!?
258000k still counting.
Toyota also killed the 1st gen xB and first gen Yaris (Echo), two really great cars that were replaced by less inspiring products. I think they are a little in the fog with their decisions
Scion xB?
You guys are better off getting a 2003-2008 Mazda 6i hatch, wagon or even sedan.
i know milton when i see it lol
Has 170-180hp faster than pretty much all modern eco sedans
lie again
Love my 04 Matrix. 136 Thousand Miles and still runs like a new car. Reliable as a sunrise

Ask the boys at Straight Pipes and tell them we said hi, good guys!
@@MyLifeThai371 about 30/35 on average
@@michaelvulcano278mixed driving? How is city driving?
@@joepearlzz8504 I would say probably around 27/28. I've had it for almost 3 years now and I've had no repairs until recently. Just had to put a starter in it. Getting ready to turn 160,000 Mi and that's basically all I've had to do to it. Great little car
Great review if I needed to know how many boxes could fit in the car after the seats have been folded down, but what I actually wanted to know is if it's actually a decent car, the engine displacement and how reliable it is.
Learn how to do a proper review than try again, please . . . . . . . . . .
Loll straight pipes before they were famous 😂
We trained them!!
My matrix has a touch screen
They look like the guys from thestraightpipes.
the Vibe looked better
Fuck NO
