The glitches actually make it even more frustrating :P It's one thing to use glitches for setup/preparation where you have multiple attempts, but using glitches mid combo is often god awful; due to the combo timer, not only do they have to work first try in most cases, you also don't have any time to properly set yourself up. To use the footage from 15:12 as an example, if you tilt slightly too much to the left/right, or land slightly too far in the front/back, you might get a Superjump that doesn't quite reach the top, or not get one at all. Try to spend a second or two on setting yourself up, and your combo timer will run out. Either of these cases will result in a reset. But for obvious reasons, the video only shows the one successful attempt and none of the fifty or so failures ;-) The worst case of this was the Desert of the Knaaren, Part 3, where one such mid combo Rolling Superjump lets you get the Green Gem in a combo. However, it is _extremely_ inconsistent, and it took me no joke 6-7 months of reloads just to get that one part right.
I once got all the smiling Murphy faces. That was enough for me. Seems like those 100% thresholds are already pretty tough. Maybe that's the highscore of the developers? Anyway, my sympathy for the glitch that prevented you from entering tower of Leptys. And congratulations on your semi-world record. ;)
Am currently working very hard on a dutch reality game show of which I am presenter and director. That's much work, and that unfortunatly cuts my time for this channel a bit
I'm not even ten minutes into the video, but I'm already thinking: This is why scoring systems are awesome. Look at this entire avenue of gameplay and all this replay value you're getting just because of scoring.
Let's goooo! Such an impressive video. It's to heartwarming to see this classic being dissected by seemingly impossible challenge runs. Hope your next ones will be a little more causal, though, since I want you to retain your sanity.
Great video ! The score counter not getting stuck after 100k isn't the only HD advantage, the green gem glitch is also patched, which is a glitch that negate the combo points from a green gem if they are above 9000 (ex: if you grab a green gem in 16th+ position with a power up no point will be added to the combo meter). And also if there is no HD score on the leaderboard it's simply because you technically can't get you lums race code on HD, which is necessary to submit your score !
the mechanic of collecting the highest reward objects latest in a combo adds a new depth and way to play this classic. this vid doc of your journey inspired me to give this a shot. subbed!
I really appreciate your honesty in this video, you don’t seem to have a huge ego like of some of the other, larger challenge runners I’ve seen and it’s clear how much passion you have for this game. It’s really refreshing and I think you should be proud of, not necessarily your HD record (tho that’s impressive in it’s own right), but the insane amount of effort and dedication you had towards making this happen. Very inspiring for me as a fellow hoodlum havoc lover! ^_^ Congrats!
Damn, this vwas a morale boost for me. I also am doing an attempt of this challenge on PC and I recently got 692431 points total (Major glitches excluded), but I would probably have never reached that milestone without this video, so many thanks!
God the HD bug is so dirty. It's why I don't have the 100% achievement either. Cool video, hope, with no impugning on your sanity you'll be able to revisit this one day for the 100% achievement and maybe even a placement in the 20's (if you can remember that swamp secret that is)
Absolutely amazing progress. I remember trying to get the highest score run I could one time and that's when I realized how precise the platforming in the game can be. It's always been my favorite casual game, but the scoring system suddenly transforms it into one of the most frustratingly challenging games I've ever played.
Rayman 3 is one of my favorite games of all time and considering the furthest I've ever gone is unlocking the xowar room in the tower of leptys this run absolutely blows my mind. It goes without saying this is impressive as crud even if you couldn't beat the game for some reason you've still proved absolute mastery over it.
Good thing you didn't attempt the non-HD versions, because in these games you actually CAN get over 100000 in a world, but it has to be the last thing you do in that world. Basically, the counter gets stuck at 99999, but your current combo (and ONLY the combo points) will still be added without displaying it. So you have to find a way to get as high of a combo as possible in that specific window, adding to the complexity of it all. Another thing to note (not sure if it's been patched on HD) is "the green gem bug". If you pick up a green gem with your x2 multiplier in the 16th place or higher in your combo, it just won't count. There's only like 3 spots in the game where this is an issue (on of them being the first hidden room in the longest shortcut) but that's 3000 points lost nonetheless. And yeah, that revisit bug is specific to the HD version unfortunately.
Man, it's just a great, GREAT amount of work of nobody's needed work and I absolutely love each second of this. I was actually thinking it myself how to do that, since R3 is my beloved game from my earliest years of life, but actually doing this... Yeah, I underestimated the challenge too. But watching heroes like you puts honey on my heart, it's just brilliant. :D
What the hell. I had notifications on for this channel and UA-cam didn't even tell me you uploaded. I haven't seen this video yet but proper hyped for it. Going to watch it later today when I'm free
i ve changed my opinion it was the most epic rayman 3 run(s) i have ever seen in my entire life , i appreciate ur effort put into getting points so badly
Dear god. When I was 8 years old, I got Rayman 3 HD for Xbox 360. I was ecstatic. I played it to death and then learned necromancy to do it all over again, but there was one thing wrong with my first save file. i could access ANY WORLD except the last one. I was brimming with joy at this glitch, because my puny stupid 8 year-old hands couldn't beat the Machine. I ended up making more save files, encountering the glitch a couple more times, but mostly forgetting it existed, and then BOOM. This world record attempt lost to the very glitch that brought my childhood so much joy. You, sir, have brought tears to my eyes. I salute you. Try taking a bit of a break before the blind run, yeah?
Late to the party, but I'm so thrilled to see a challenge where someone stepped back and weighed the value of real life vs the potential video content/achievement of something arbitrary. It made for an excellent video that acts as a contrast to those insane challenges where someone dumped 200+ hours.
I can only imagine the sheer pain and frustration you had to go through with this run. I recently played the game myself and I couldn't even do any of the combos that you did and to think you needed to do multiple sections back to back without messing up once.
GG! I love watching through your Rayman videos / challenges, and it actually relit my fire to replay these games after such a long time. Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc is among my top 10 games of all time. And I’m really happy to see someone else who appreciates this gem of a game like it deserves. Oh, and about the word “deserves”. You have another sub! ❤
Your first run is bringing back so many childhood memories of endlessly fucking up combos. Still today I have nightmares of frantically reaching for yellow gems while getting stuck on a tiny piece of awkward geometry or accidentally touching a green one first.
Wow, that is some dedication :D, I would probably recommend an emulator, that allows you to play the original version, but more importantly, it allows you to make "quick saves" at any point in any game, meaning that a reset takes way less time since you can reset just to the last combo instead of the whole section. I highly expect that most of those other records do so as well, at least for the preperation phase.
Great Video. I'm trying to get a high score in this game myself and I'm realizing how frustrating it can be and how it takes some of the fun out of the game. Also that you did it without glitches like IPG, PCM, Superjump ect. is I think a strong performance. Keep up the good work!
Thanks man! And don't get discouraged! This challenge can be fun and rewarding if you make no haste and give yourself time to learn. Keep it up bro and let me know if you can get good combos
You can't imagine how happy I am seeing the intro, the face of the legend himself. Awesomeeeeee dude, I know this video will be a great one just from the intro. Keep it up, David. Love your videos as always. Also, congratulations in advance for 2k subs. After watching the video: Congratulations on being the Rayman 3 highest score PS3 HD Remaster World Champion 🥳🥳 I love the editing on this video and I had a wide af smile whenever there was your face. The outro was epic as well.
This video was recently recommended to me. While watching it, I realized I don't think I've ever gotten all Smiling Murphy's (Murphies?). I wasn't insane enough to try for the world record, but I did aim for hitting all the 100% thresholds. I don't know if the PS2 version has the revisit bug, so I used multiple save files to ensure I had a backup if I failed. I eventually managed it with a score of 497169 (glitchless, as I don't know any). It's far from the world record, but it's almost certainly my personal best. One thing I was rather stubborn on was a combo on The Longest Shortcut - Act 1. I wanted to combo the Matuvu into the secret. It took several tries, but I found out it was possible. Was it necessary since I was only aiming for 100%? No. It was just something stupid that I was too stubborn to admit defeat on. Congrats on the PS3 record. Here's hoping the next challenge run isn't so stressful.
Hey there, great run! Casually played Rayman 3 HD on Xbox 360 again just today after years... and also got the no revisiting glitch. I think it comes from loading a level prior to the one you're in at the moment. But I'm not sure. Cheers!
Wow how impressive. I never even tried to get 100% in the levels it always seemed impossible for me. This glitch in the end is kinda heartbreaking. Btw I dont know if you remember my Feedback on your min Helicopter vid, but in that Video I had the feeling you again took your time and explained stuff way better :)
1:07 Hey, that's me! :D Somehow, I've never found this video so this is kind of late, but congratulations on your achievement! Getting a score of 664k (that one should count :P) all on your own through trial and error, especially after only 4 attempts is really impressive! I don't know if you'll ever see this, but as the current record holder, I'd like to give some insight on this topic :-) 1.) The Tower of the Leptys thing is an unfortunate bug which always happens if you revisit a level before finishing the game, which you did with Bog of Murk on that run. I have no idea why, but the game just bugs out in that case. 2.) The point barrier (i.e. the original version getting "stuck" past 99.999 points) not only applies to the levels score, but green gems as well. The combo counter only has 4 digits, and for some reason cannot handle a single item being worth 5 digits, so taking green gems as item #16 or above with a powerup will result in giving you no combo points. 3.) I didn't know that a lot of the glitches were patched in the HD remakes, that's interesting! I did have a savegame once where no major glitches were used for scoring (damage boosts were pretty much the only thing), and I totaled ~860.000 points. Considering how game-breaking some of the major glitches are, you'd expect there to be more of a difference than 60k-ish points, but the point barrier in the original versions is a surprisingly big hurdle ;-) 918k can definitely be beaten on HD even without glitches, but much like my own score, that would take years of playing (and as I'm sure you've noticed, it will cost you your sanity). 4.) Another thing worth noting is that R3 has platform differences. For instance, you can jump higher on XBox than other platforms (that damage boost you were doing at 28:42? On XBox, if you climb one of the piggybanks, you can simply helicopter on top of the door), and in similar manner, different platforms have different strengths/weaknesses. Not sure how PS3 compares to other platforms though. So yeah, great video overall, liked and subscribed! :-)
Thanks for the info! Gives a lot of insight. I will never beat you unfortunatly, but maybe in the the future I will give it another go to see how close I can get
I just found out about your channel, showed up on my home page. Immediately heard a fellow Dutchy. Awesome video. Love the creativity, love the idea. definitely a sub You seem to have uploaded videos that I might very much enjoy! Going to check them out today. I love Rayman and Ratchet.
as a person who loves rayman 3 but never really gave too much care about the points, i find this very intriguing how much you can affect the point total~
(*Writing a comment at 04:11) Damn, I'm already SO excited for the rest of this video. Just the intro for this World High Score quest is already hyping me up! 😁
All that effort, and for the game to screw you over in the end! That sucks. You should definitely separate the high score list by game version though, it's makes all the difference and it's only fair. Nice going
The percentage after each stage does not display or reflect the effectiveness of your chain combo points but it shows you if you found all the possible gems and other point giving collectibles to earn points from the given level. The two things are not the same.
You're wrong, each individual level has a specific score assigned to it which you need to beat in order to get 100%; the level score is entirely dependant on how many points you have. Often times, that requires using "advanced" combos. Sometimes just finding everything can be enough, but the level score has nothing to do with getting all collectibles or anything like that. For Fairy Council 2 for example, the 100% requirement is 1.770 points. It doesn't matter how many items you collect as long as you get to that score. You can play a single big combo with the Matuvu, then skipp everything else, and still get 100%.
I do not blame you at all for how the challenge concluded. I tried a Doom Eternal master level and spent the entire day doing it. I was stuck on the final section for 3 hours before calling it quits. I can't remember ever just dropping something like that, especially right at the end. Unless you've tried a hyper challenging level or run, you haven't really experienced what it's like losing your sanity to grinding a tiny segment for hundreds of attempts. It really puts you in a state of frustration that is quite literally maddening. Your mental health was not worth it just for a video. I think it's actually effective at showing the lengths you go to produce content. The amount of effort in this video literally placed you in the top 50 at this game, and as the number 1 PS3 player in the world.
This comment has so many layers. You're right man, it felt like crushing defeat after sooo many hours... but it wasn't. And I am damn proud of that. Also, really glad to see how much you enjoyed it!
Remember: Preparing is one of the most important things . Especially in this area on 37:19, you can weaken all the Hoodlums to make a big combo, and it's very easy, and i will show you that. Also, how many points do you have now? Did you improve your score somewhere?
Still in the siren part in the Land of the Livid Dead. I cannot complete the secret with the most points, got me kinda burned out. Really have to come back to work on this. Meanwhile I am working on another Rayman video
One thing about the HD port of this game is that it runs at 60 FPS which is a thing that can be a bit frustrating if you are going for a high score. For example, if you are trying to make a combo that is including many items like gems, hoodlums or whatever object in the same combo, you probably want the game to run at at least somewhere around 120 FPS. I have a much better highscore on the PC version of Rayman 3 because it runs at i think 120 FPS. But i think it also depends on how fast your PC are :)
This must have been so hard, congrats on finishing the challenge. Also I always wondered how many points are considered 100%, is it calculated as the mathematically highest score possible?
@@obscurevideogameruns6250 its just a score that the devs considered to be a reasonable target to go for for casual players. They are very lenient and just require you to kbow the basics of how the combo system works, they also dont seem to even require any points to be added as the second tier of conbo multiplier, even when its easy to do by accident
First, congrats for the stubborness to actually pull this off. Wow man, that was hard, like REALLY hard. Now the question I have, if you never reached 100% then when IS a 100%? Like, from the start to the end non-stop combo [regardless of is it actually impossible] or what? And I seriously whatched it from start to the end and I cannot get the contrast when I see you only have 2k subs. I mean, heck, this is actually top level content here. Well, can't wait for next video from you as it is really entertaining for viewer. PS: If PC/PS2/GC versions are way different than the PS3 [as you mention it many times] then YES, you are WR holder for me. At least in the HD remaster version. Still, WR is a WR.
Amazing comment man, thank you! Of course it's very easy to miss the 100% mark because you'll only find it out after ending the level zo every time it's a guess. Anyway, great to see you liked my content!
I tried lots of your suggestions in combo scoring and I have scored above 530k, but i can't imagine scoring above 600k. I have huge respect. Love your channel so much.❤ Edit: Once I was able to score secret behind Knaaren with orange powerup, but you have to hit Knaaren and then, when he comes to wall next to Rayman, you make a good jump and run to secret. But it's very difficult.
Thank you mate! Have been trying to beat 700k since March and I'm still in the Land of the Livid Dead, so you can imagine the sheer difficulty of the run
@@obscurevideogameruns6250 I can imagine. Clearleaf forest is the most annoying for me plus tower of leptus. So many options and still sth can go wrong. So frustrating
Did you already watch my easy scoring? Because this is what I want. The 830K easy points are for you and for average Rayman 3 players. I did this for you guys 👍 Edit: Congrats for 3000 subscribers 👏
I have another solution for you: If you do the damage boost on CF on 28:46, kill the hoodlum with the red can, break this door on 29:15, and then you can jump from the piggy bank to the top without damage boost. Also as you already know that the blue can needs longer to disappear. So take this blue can instead of the red can and go back to the first area on 29:05, pick up all the diamonds and then the 3 hoodlums, see the Matuvu and then you have a combo for 10K points. Try with this 👍
Yes, I'm currently working on another video with highest points and I did come up with some pretty good combo's if I may say so myself. But making the video takes very long
in which chapter of Rayman 3 are you, and what is your current score? (Also, i will upload Rayman 3 scores with easy combos for players like you who want at least over 815K the next day)
Currently in the second part of the Land of the Livid Dead. Dont remember how much score I'm currently on exactly. But everytime I have completed an incredibly difficult combo I am very proud and then I see videos of you doing it way better🥲😂
Holy fuck, didn't think it would be that frustrating and cumbersome. Hitting 600k in PS3 version is simply brutal and you did a massive job there, but jeez, how much time would it take to reach 900k (if it is even possible in PS3)? Idk if getting 300k extra would be even fun (and good for mental health) at this point. No discouragement, of course, +600k is still great.
Would it be possible to make speedrun vids that explain only a level or a tech. Would be nice to have that short snacky videos inbetween your long ones
Hey man! (Ik denk aan je accent te kunnen horen dat je Nederlander bent, maar voor alle andere kijkers zal ik de vraag in het Engels stellen 😉) I really like the Rayman 3 challenges, I thought up some ideas that are maybe fun to do (for video purposes only 😂) 1. Rayman 3 speedrun 2. Rayman 3 NO damage run. Except the part on the pirate ship (without reset) 3. Rayman 3 100% on all levels 4. Rayman 3 how many enemies do you have to defeat to finish the game 5. Rayman 3 mirror run (with the mirror cheatcode) 6.
@@obscurevideogameruns6250 Ah super man!
hey are you still interested in this type of gameplay? Ever since I got past 700K in r3 I just knew I must iterate on this scoring based gameplay cuz its just so emergent and transforms even the most bland level design into masterfully deep puzzles. If you would like to see what my game looks as of now, take a look at my newest vid. Do you see the r3's scoring appeal in it yet? I really want to capture it fully and build on top of it eventually so would love feedback on its scoring aspects
Hey, multiple games have categories for different versions specifically because of version differences and the tricks that some allow and others don't. The HD Remaster should be in its own category just because it patched out the glitches other versions use. It's not fair otherwise.
I'm sorry man, I just couldn't deal with it any more. In the end, it's a game meant for fun which becomes very hard when trying this arbitrarily difficult challenge
I can't imagine the sheer amount of frustration the world record holder must've went through. Even with glitches.
The glitches actually make it even more frustrating :P

Your first run is bringing back so many childhood memories of endlessly fucking up combos. Still today I have nightmares of frantically reaching for yellow gems while getting stuck on a tiny piece of awkward geometry or accidentally touching a green one first.
😂😂😂 never thought about it that way. But yeah man, absolutely right
Fun fact: rayman 3 was one of the first games i played lol
You had an amazing childhood then!
That's an impressive record ! I loved watching this video, the challenge seems very hard to do. Congratz on your attempts !
There’s no way I could even bother 😭 you may have not gotten the top but damn it you did great bro
Well played! Rayman 3 PS3 Master indeed. What an achievement!
Great documentary of a descent into madness with hope in the end.
Mad respect brother. You are my inspiration to hard work
Bro, that's amazing. Thanks
Dude I loved this video so much. You’re incredible!
I don't know what the heck is wrong with you for doing this, but this entertained me way to much!
😂😂 great!
THANK YOU FOR THE HIGH QUALITY VIDEO ONCE AGAIN!!! ty for face reveal :) very handsome man!
😂😂
You can't imagine how happy I am seeing the intro, the face of the legend himself. Awesomeeeeee dude, I know this video will be a great one just from the intro. Keep it up, David. Love your videos as always.
Also, congratulations in advance for 2k subs.
After watching the video:
Congratulations on being the Rayman 3 highest score PS3 HD Remaster World Champion 🥳🥳
I love the editing on this video and I had a wide af smile whenever there was your face. The outro was epic as well.
Yes! Thanks man! Awesome to see you are still excited after two years!

@@obscurevideogameruns6250 oh, I thought you didn't speak so I watched all of them on mute 😂
Brilliant video man ! geez I can't imagine how many times you reset and how many hours went into this. It deserves more views
Upon reading your comment I started counting but stopped when I realized I don't want to know😅😭
This video was recently recommended to me.
Great read, thank mate
Hey there, great run! Casually played Rayman 3 HD on Xbox 360 again just today after years... and also got the no revisiting glitch. I think it comes from loading a level prior to the one you're in at the moment. But I'm not sure.
Cheers!
My thoughts too, that's really too bad
goddamn amazing video once again!!
Glad to see you back and that you enjoyed!
I try my best to explain everything as best as I can and find a happy middle ground between nit being too lengty
@@obscurevideogameruns6250 I 100% feel you accomplished that here :D
Thank you for this, my favourite entertainment : rayman, dedication and huge wit 🥳
The strafing for the Tribelle is an actual tips in the instruction manual that came with the physical copy !

Wind waker tier lists are devided in Original and HD. So beeing World Champion of a remaster is absolutly Valid
They should make a separate list for the HD version. Congratulations 🎉 👏
1:07 Hey, that's me! :D
Somehow, I've never found this video so this is kind of late, but congratulations on your achievement! Getting a score of 664k (that one should count :P) all on your own through trial and error, especially after only 4 attempts is really impressive! I don't know if you'll ever see this, but as the current record holder, I'd like to give some insight on this topic :-)
1.) The Tower of the Leptys thing is an unfortunate bug which always happens if you revisit a level before finishing the game, which you did with Bog of Murk on that run.
I will never beat you unfortunatly, but maybe in the the future I will give it another go to see how close I can get
I dont know why i just really like your narration
😂😂 that's great
Youre an absolute king for this
Mad respect
Respect for all the work you have done bro
Respect for watching all the way
53:04 DUDE this bug happened to me too in my 100% run 😭. This is so frustrating
😭😭😭😭 I know how you feel man
Over 3 months, still patiently waiting for a new video (hopefully rayman 3), im still exited!

bro you're awesome hope you get more subs like 2k? ITS FRICKIN- not ok...
as a person who loves rayman 3 but never really gave too much care about the points, i find this very intriguing how much you can affect the point total~
Interesting right? Gives this game so much more replay value

This is great 😂😂
Just ended the video:
You did an amazing job and I think YOU ARE the originial ''Rayman 3 Playstation 3'' champion 😎
The Tower of Leptys glitch happened to me too, absolute bullshit lmao
😭
Congrats your the semi-higher score!🥳
Honestly, I have no idea
Love your channel so much.❤
Edit: Once I was able to score secret behind Knaaren with orange powerup, but you have to hit Knaaren and then, when he comes to wall next to Rayman, you make a good jump and run to secret. But it's very difficult.
Thank you mate! Have been trying to beat 700k since March and I'm still in the Land of the Livid Dead, so you can imagine the sheer difficulty of the run
@@obscurevideogameruns6250
I can imagine. Clearleaf forest is the most annoying for me plus tower of leptus. So many options and still sth can go wrong. So frustrating
49:39 , this caught me so off-guard LOL
😂
the revisit glitch is exactly why i haven't finished this game
fuck the HD rerelease
Hell yeah fresh video
Maz's yt is TMaz96 (i think 96) he have a lot of combo scoring vids
Did you already watch my easy scoring? Because this is what I want. The 830K easy points are for you and for average Rayman 3 players. I did this for you guys 👍
Edit: Congrats for 3000 subscribers 👏
This video deserves x100 times the views it aleardy has
I have another solution for you:
If you do the damage boost on CF on 28:46, kill the hoodlum with the red can, break this door on 29:15, and then you can jump from the piggy bank to the top without damage boost.
But making the video takes very long
@@obscurevideogameruns6250 in which chapter of Rayman 3 are you, and what is your current score?
in which chapter of Rayman 3 are you, and what is your current score?
Thanks bro! I'm fairly certain getting 900k points is not Possible on the ps3 HD remaster. So yes, I am very happy with the result! Glad you enjoyed!
I wish this vid had as much views as you have earned points
you should ask some speedrunners/glitchhunters to data mine Rayman 3, it would expose all the game mechanics that you can abuse
You deserve more subscribers
Make it happen!
Dude you look like the guy who plays general Hux in Star Wars :D
😂😂😂😂 don't know if I should laugh or cry
amazing video just like the lowest possible points
Would it be possible to make speedrun vids that explain only a level or a tech. Would be nice to have that short snacky videos inbetween your long ones
That seems fun!
Hey man!
(Ik denk aan je accent te kunnen horen dat je Nederlander bent, maar voor alle andere kijkers zal ik de vraag in het Engels stellen 😉)
I really like the Rayman 3 challenges,
I thought up some ideas that are maybe fun to do (for video purposes only 😂)
1. Rayman 3 speedrun
2. Rayman 3 NO damage run. Except the part on the pirate ship (without reset)
3. Rayman 3 100% on all levels
4. Rayman 3 how many enemies do you have to defeat to finish the game
5. Rayman 3 mirror run (with the mirror cheatcode)
6. Rayman 3 with MINIMAL jumps
@@obscurevideogameruns6250 Ah super man!
Emulating the GameCube version and using save states would have saved you much pain

Very well done video
Het zou me niet verbazen zou je dit spel beu gespeeld zijn ondertussen hahah, goeie video weer!

Love the rayman content
hey are you still interested in this type of gameplay?
I agree!
Dang... a challenge video that just doesnt pan out. Bold move, but a respectable one. Still absolutely something to be proud of.
I'm sorry man, I just couldn't deal with it any more. In the end, it's a game meant for fun which becomes very hard when trying this arbitrarily difficult challenge
excellent work
