When I was 4yrs, my family moved into a house with a crabapple tree. The crabs were as big a a ping pong ball. My dad pruned that tree and by the time we moved out 6 years later, the crabs were the size of two golf balls. Haven’t found crabapples that big since and I’m missing my mom’s crabapple pie.
That was such helpful information! Only downside, we live in N California I will contact Tree company Tristar tomorrow! Thank you for sharing!!! God Bless you and Wanda!!!
Danny, I went through Missouri conservation/trees and bought seedlings 10 dark cheery,15 black walnut 20 elderberry and 10 pecan trees I hope and pray that they all bear fruit its my first year on the property, and its my belief that trees are the first things that must be planted already have herbs that i am taking with me it will be too late to start taters in the end of may but next year I wish you great luck and i hope you do the same for me i did invest in that mill opertuninty hope we both get 1 bless you both stay healthy my friend
Ordered three apple trees today, your 25 off didn’t work on the trees but did get 10%. My local coop couldn’t get fruit trees this year from theIr regular supplier. Thanks for the tip!
Mr Danny and Miss Wanda hi :) I been thinking about this aging trees .and I've finally remembered this morning :) it's the first year wipe =builds it trunk height and gets a trim .second year is first branches and gets a trim .third year is branches on branches and gets a trim .fourth year is branches on branches on branches and gets a trim .so the more branch growth splits you have on your trees you can easily age any bought trees . so in store you can pick the ones the age you need by the stems and the cut backs that's already been done on any at the store.cut by the store or the grower too ;) but you already know this but I hope this helps someone buying trees in the future .have a great day both :)
One of my favourite childhood memories were these MASSIVE mulberry trees in our backyard and we are talking 50 to 60 feet tall , our faces would be stained from eating so many berries by the end of the day 🥰
Those packing chips appear to be the compostable kind, though I suppose at this point they've already been hauled off. If the existing apricots all came from seed, pollination isn't likely to be a problem since they're already different varieties as far as pollination requirements are concerned. Pollination issues arise when all the plants are clones. Usually for fruit trees the growing zone issue isn't about getting the tree to grow, but meeting the chilling requirement needed for it to flower in spring.
I pray the the Lord gives you the days to see the fruits of your labor actually bear fruit. Spirituality we know that we may never see the seeds we sow even germinate, let alone mature. In this case however, may God grant you the satisfaction.
Good video! I've got about eight pear trees left, of what was once about a dozen, prior to my ownership of the land. They're aging out, so it's a good time to start replacing them as I lose the old trees.
I had a Bonsai Japanese Mulberry for many years, and it fruited every year sometimes 3 times if I took the leaves off more. I've got to get back into Bonsai.
I can understand how people pick up accents. When I hear Danny and Wanda together on a video,my thoughts( as I hear them) take on a twang! Thanks Y'all! 😄
We started keeping bees two years ago and I can't tell you what a difference it has made in our orchards and in our farm altogether. If anyone is having pollination troubles, get bees! I saved them til last as far as adding to our homestead due to the steep learning curve, but even though I don't work my bees perfectly and we've lost some, the fruit that we have gotten the last two years has been so much more abundant compared to previous years of not having bees. Best wishes Danny and Wanda! Trees look great! :) Blessings.
What they don't tell you about mulberries is the birds will plant them in your fence rows. Check out logees nursery for tropical and semi tropical and dwarf trees.
Do y'all have a video about propagating fruit trees from cuttings? We have a fruiting mulberry out in our west field but it has never been pruned and we can't get to the berries. I would love to propagate a few and start some that I can prune and keep control of.
They are very easy to root ! Look up videos on UA-cam. Now is a good time in most areas. It is too much to type but generally they are easily rooted! Usually in 6 weeks I have decent roots.
Yes create food Forest and grocery row gardens like David the good says. I bought two pear, Apple, fig, cherry trees. Goji, Few raspberry, few blueberry, black berry, alot of strawberry crowns and plants, plum tree and my container Garden in less than a year. The time is now, even if you RENT! Grow it in a container. Get the Seeds before a shortage, don't wait! God Bless Everyone 🌱😁👍🍓🐞🌼🙏🐝🌷
Just a tip…never plant mulberry near house plumbing. It grows so fast and prolifically that the roots will ruin your pipes and foundations. Especially older buildings with clay or historical plumbing, the roots grow towards any dampness then penetrate and cause plumbing nightmares.

Hey there all. I'm in so cali. Can't get anyone to start gardening except one person. I only have yard for planting pots...starting this weekend 👍🏽 love your videos
Hello Danny, I am a good gardener, I've been at it my whole life of 73 years now; However, I have recently bought Some raspberries and we planted some thornless Blackberries. I have never planted these fruits. Could you do a video on how to take care of Raspberries and blackberries. I would appreciate any helping information that you can give me. Thanks Jessie from Arkansas
Hi neighbor! I love how you own being a "good gardener" expanding something you've not done before. In N AR (Ozarks) berries pretty much thrive (unless the goats find them, bye bye lol)
@K Barnes the type of canes on raspberries also determine how to prune. The soft viney type produce on second year canes. Theses canes die out during the winter. Remove these and weak canes early spring(I'm zone 4 and don't know if pruning at different time in your growing zone. Check with your extension service). The hard strait canes(heritage variety types grow on 1st year canes. Some people cut back to the ground when they die in fall. I cut back to 1-1 1/2 ft in spring
@K Barnes All that I planted were Red Raspberries. I found a reasonable bargain through Burgess so I globbed on to a bunch of them. There is some things in blackberries and raspberries that help you loose weight and also they are good for Multiple Sclerosis which I have. Both the berries and dried leaves are good for a lot of things. When I was 12 year old. A flu swept the country, they called it the Asian flu. People were dying about as bad as this Corona Virus. I got it and I was so sick I was near death. My mom (a half Cherokee Indian) she went out and dug up a bunch of blackberry roots. She boiled those roots and made me drink the tea, it wasn't but two or three days and I was strong enough to get out of bed and back to normal. I thought I'd pass that on so it can help others. Jessie from Arkansas
@K Barnes Yes thank you bunches for your help. I can hardly wait to see my first fruits. We are trying to produce as much food crops as we can. We've got it down to a science. Its my way of dealing with food prices going sky high. I am old enough that I can remember milk at twentyfive cents a gallon. Sugar 10 cents per 10 Lb. and on and on, I paid 15 cents a gallon for gas during the gas wars in Texas, and New Mexico during the 70's. Those were the days. We will never see things as they were. Good luck with this seasons growing. Jessie from Arkansas.
We got some plum and pear trees from TriStar about two weeks ago. We planted them immediately They look fantastic and sprouting new leaves what seems like daily. Well pleased with TriStar's plants.
If you're really interested in fruit trees for the south, there is a nursery in NC, that has all types of fruit trees for human consumption and wildlife specifically for the south. A guy in my area had a nursery that catered to wildlife restoration and I bought several different type fruit trees from him, some of my crab apple trees are almost 20 ft tall and make crazy amounts of fruit, that guy also bought white oak acorns from me for plantings, because I had some really nice specimens. Sadly, he went out of business and I found out that he got his plants from that nursery in NC. Ill try to think of the name of that place.
Hey Danny, may our Father continue to bless you and Mrs. Wanda for all you do. You and I are kindred spirits in the ways of what is happening. I have totally WASTED the first fifteen years we lived on our place, but I am trying to make up for lost time. We planted 14 fruit trees and some blueberry bushes last week, and have some nut trees, grape, scuppernog and muscadine vines on the way. I am going to try and get some goat fencing put up, and get my mom's chicken coop moved up to our place and get us a few laying hens out here. I have known these things for most of my life, but never realized the urgency until the "plandemic" got in full swing. I vaguely remember grandaddy's salt box and smoke house, and peanuts drying on the fence, and those AWESOME parched peanuts on the wood stove. You have helped me see once again the value of the life our forefathers had. Please continue to post your videos about things WE ALL are going to need very soon. I would really like to talk to you by email or other private methods, if you are willing. I believe you have something that can ONLY be from above. I see a light in you that is generally NOT in the world. Thanks again, and keep up our Father's work!!
I am so happy and enriched by your teaching! Thank you for praying to God to show me a country place here in KY! HE DID. Hoping to close successfully this week. Have to vacate apartment by April 30. Love your videos!
I had to give up the dream , land and building materials so high , even baron undesirable land is ridiculously high . Had to buy a house in town and just do what I can . Congratulations on your new home and good luck with everything.
I love hearing Miss Wanda’s voice come outta nowhere 😂 - you 2 make a great team! Thank you both for all you do. While it’s necessary to hear the bad and the good, it’s refreshing to hear what we CAN do in these times, the “how to’s” and what options we have available now. Take care everyone!
My last mulberry in California was 25 years old 3 Inch at the base and only 5 feet tall it just started producing at about20 years but I had to leave it behind when I moved to Arkansas 2 years ago and in 2 years my cousin killed it. He killed everything I left him but a bunya bunya I got from the university of Sacramento and had it for 15 years. I'm hoping it fruits and they drop on him.
Those peanuts that were sticky when they got wet, might be the kind made from corn starch and would be biodegradable, so put them in your compost. I discovered a white mulberry when I moved here. It is growing IN the chain link fence. Trying to save it is a challenge, as it is an older tree that was chopped knee-high but keeps sprouting. It had berries the first year but none since. I got a cutting and hoping this will take off and grow. But I have to keep everything cut short, below the power lines, so who knows whether it will produce fruit.
Should have just said, this company is giving us some sponsorship and we don't want to talk about another nursery, even if it's better. The love of money lol.
White mulberry can be used for fodder as the leaves are high protein. Nick Ferguson talks about fodder trees. Check him out on UA-cam. He is out of Louisiana I think. Rare plant store I think is website. Had a podcast called homegrown liberty.
Yes! Also DirtPatchHeaven mentioned it, so I cloned an existing local mulberry tree-- omg it's so exciting when the green leaves pop! Free trees! And I know they're good, cause I know their mother 😂
@@holisticheritagehomestead the mulberry (and Neem) were the only familiar names, most of them developed in the more natural regions of Africa. I'm in zone 6. If you find any further info can you please post it here? Thank you
I was told they would not worry about things canned in jars. Because they would not consider it safe to eat. But packaged items they would. I had learned during the Civil War people planted in many different hidden little spots. to spread out and hide their garden. They would still plant a main garden. But if that was wiped out for whatever reason. They had their back up little hidden plots.
Tip for folks considering starting up a tree nursery: Ship bare root trees during their dormancy period, ship evergreens after last frost date. If the tree has broken dormancy, check with the customer to see if they are willing to take the tree NOW, rather than wait for best practices. Don't charge your customers for shipping dirt and Styrofoam, which they have no use for other than to fill a landfill. As a customer, the best time to do your tree planting is during their dormancy (except for evergreens, as previously mentioned) The country abounds with inexpensive and ethical tree nurseries - there is likely to be one near YOU.
Another great reason for bareroot it’s not potted in crap that trees don’t like around there roots 98% of the time dead trees also crap you buy from the store when planting is not needed and kills more than it ever helps straight into your soil with a mulch or compost only on top of the soil. Great advice you shared happy growing this season cheers
I ordered plums, peaches, and apricots from Tristar. I live in nc I hope to get apricots also. Do you have cherry trees? I would like to grow a cherry tree.
Hello Danny, I purchased an apple tree last year that has four different types of apples on it (spliced from four different apple trees and grafted on the main trunk). I'm wondering if it will self-pollinate since it will have four different types of flowers? Just curious if a crab apple would still be required. Best always to both you and Wanda. Cheers
There was a white mulberry at our neighbors yard when I was growing up. It was about 4' across the trunk, and it was as tall as any tree in town. I think around 60' tall. It was almost as tall as the Redwoods (planted in 1910) in the park. My mulberries are around 25' tall, and showing no signs of becoming giant, but mine are purple. Mine are about 20 years old. Don't count on that white mulberry staying regular size. It may be reaching for Heaven before you know it.
The white mulberry is the "sugar mulberry" and it lives up to its name! And usually starts producing fruit very early in it's age. So I pray before to long we will see you and Mrs Wanda making a video about how sweet yours is and how awesome the others are to. 💚
White mulberries are the sole food source of the silkworm. The early American colonists tried to start up a silkworm industry due to the native red mulberries but the worms don’t eat them and the weather wasn’t quite right. But be aware white mulberries can pollinate and overrun native mulberries. They can be quite invasive and some places restrict their planting. You can get native fruiting mulberries from some places like Gurneys or maybe even find them in the wild.
@@80krauser Thank you for the shared information. But like in my 2nd comment under this video, my property has plenty of the native mulberry. I'm in southeastern NC and they are somewhat invasive here. But with the bird population, that fact doesn't bother me because maybe one day I will have a fighting chance at having a better amount of fruit to eat. 😁
Danny the Homestead is beautiful! You and Brenda have worked so hard. Beautiful place!

When it all comes together you will get ropes of apricots which can even break your branches if you are not careful.
On my grandparents land they had a what they call a June apple. It was a rusty color not a big apple about a medium size. Would love to have some of them. But can’t fine them or what they were actually call.
white mulberry are very tasty❤
Apricots are generally self pollinating so unless the seed stock was somehow sterile I don’t think pollination is the issue

I had to give up the dream , land and building materials so high , even baron undesirable land is ridiculously high . Had to buy a house in town and just do what I can . Congratulations on your new home and good luck with everything.
Even tiny Crab apples are very high in pectin and can be used to set low pectin fruit
My grandmother had a white mulberry and a dark mulberry which I also have. The dark is much sweeter.

It's evident you don't watch us. We work with several other nursery companies.
Many peanuts are made of cereal now and are compostable. Hope your trees all grow well. Have a blessed day.
I’m so glad they use the compostable peanuts!!
White mulberry can be used for fodder as the leaves are high protein. Nick Ferguson talks about fodder trees. Check him out on UA-cam. He is out of Louisiana I think. Rare plant store I think is website. Had a podcast called homegrown liberty.
I’ve heard of that. I’ll check it out as well. Thank you.
Yes. Leaves are medicinal. Forgt exactly how t use but they are used in traditional Chinese medicine.
Thank you
@@grumpygrannysgoatsngardens3185 Absolutely! I’m in zone 6b. We have two full grown mulberry trees and two dwarf trees.
I've got a huge white mulberry tree out my backyard. It grows like crazy you got to trim it back all the time
It's one of the fastest growing trees! See how God is blessing us?
Hey, Danny. Just starting this one, but I want to thank you and Wanda for all your videos, filled with help.
God bless!
As a customer, the best time to do your tree planting is during their dormancy (except for evergreens, as previously mentioned)
The country abounds with inexpensive and ethical tree nurseries - there is likely to be one near YOU.
Yes Barbados cherry.
Do you have a lot of Bees, Mason Bees or Honey Bees for pollination? Danny have you ever thought of Bee keeping?
My neighbors have a company that puts lots of bees on there property each year.
How do you keep the deer from destroying your little trees.
We eat the deer.
I went to there web site. Was interested in 2 or 3 trees. None of which would they ship to Ca. And hit on 4 other options. All. They would not ship
That's why people are leaving California by the droves.
Yes! I wish l could too
Wow ! Nice trees and their prices don't break the bank!
Cheers
It should be okay.
Good morning from Alabama. Wanda’s car sure looks a lot cleaner than my white Tahoe. We got a long dirt driveway. Have a Blessed Day.
Wow just looked out the window and it is snowing crap.
The white mulberries are the best! So much sweeter and also the plant is medicine too!
I have a white one growing but it hasn’t fruited yet..how is it medicine too ❣️??
There was a white mulberry at our neighbors yard when I was growing up. It was about 4' across the trunk, and it was as tall as any tree in town. I think around 60' tall. It was almost as tall as the Redwoods (planted in 1910) in the park. My mulberries are around 25' tall, and showing no signs of becoming giant, but mine are purple. Mine are about 20 years old. Don't count on that white mulberry staying regular size. It may be reaching for Heaven before you know it.
My Grandmother had a white mulberry tree . Very sweet and it is one of my best memories vitsiting her eating those mulberries as a kid.
Thank you for sharing this company with us. I have been looking for Southern Crabapple as well.
Hope to see the mulberry. Never heard of white ones before!
