    Your 2018 XP had a STEEL pinon cover and really did not need to be replaced. The pre-2017 models with the Aluminum covers were the one that failed from time to time.

    BTW the front differential runs Demand drive fluid. The rear diff is supposed to have Angle Drive fluid. They are different. The transmission uses AGL. 3 different fluids for 3 places

      I realized this and recently switched over to the Angle drive fluid in the rear diff. No issues tho even with the demand drive fluid in there lol

    Great videos John, I'm doing this upgrade this weekend. Seems like your roll pin came out to easy based on horror stories i've heard about that pin.

      Did you think about back with a grade8 bolt and lock nut instead of beating on the aluminum parts and bearings just a thought

      @RYAN can you explain the differences in 2019 , I just purchased a 2021 scrambler 850 I’m ordering a power commander , bigger tires a lift Snd a clutch kit , having issues with parts as most sites aren’t updated yet it seems. As they all say up to 2018 or up to 2020 but nothing shows up for 2021 unless the parts are different

    Bearings that are oil bathed should not ever have grease placed in and on them. the grease prevents the oil or fluid from getting into all the areas that need the lubrication. You can actually damage and oil bath bearing packing it with grease.

    Worth doing the upgrade, but if it breaks on you make sure you just upgrade to a RZR 900 front diff!

    I've discovered the new Sportsman's have been changed to steel. Also have read that on steep hills the Tie Rods rub on this Cecco plate.. Thoughts??

    Hey john, can you explain to me any differences between the older models to the 2021
    I just purchased a 2021 scrambler and I was going to order all the cecco frame braces and differential braces , before adding a lift kit Snd bigger tires
    Also was looking into power commander and some other parts . I’m just having issues with sites not showing available parts for 2021 models Wich leads me to wonder if they are different in some way , or there is just a possibility that sites haven’t taken the time to update the lists to include 2021 yet , I don’t want to order hundreds of dollars in stuff for it to be wrong, even the dealer just said well most things should fit

      2021 are the exact same as any other sportsman or scrambler 2017 and newer. Nothing special. Polaris keeps changing the names year to year and its very silly. Must be a marketing tactic to keep people buying new machines. I agree its very confusing to keep track of.

    Hey John, maybe a dumb question but is there a chance that the assembly grease you used can contaminate the front gear case fluid? I was planning on upgrading to the Cecco pinion plate cover as well and just wanted to be sure if I grease it or not. I own the exact same machine you do, the only difference is its a 2021 model. According to the owners manual and the dealership the front and rear gearcases use different types of fluids. I think your videos are really well done and I hope you keep them coming!
    Engine Oil: PS-4 5W-50
    Transmission Oil: AGL Fluid
    Front Gearcase: Demand Drive Fluid
    Rear Gearcase: Angle Drive Fluid

    • @JohnFrancoNH
      @JohnFrancoNH  3 роки тому +1

      No the assembly lube will not contaminate. Just like break in oils it is a zinc based compound and formulated to blend with oils. That is interesting for 2021 in that they use different diff lubes. That is kind of dumb honestly. I will look into it. Thanks for watching!

      @@JohnFrancoNH According to the owners manual for your sportsman it takes different fluids for the front and rear diffs like mine, just thought I'd let you know.

    Hey John, I just purchased a New 2021 Sportsman XP 1000 Hunter Edition, I "am taking the stock tires off soon and replacing them with brand new take off's, (there are zero miles on the new machine) replacing with....Maxxis Bighorns 27x9x14 and 27x11x14. In your opinion, would you still replace the pinion cover? Also there is no lift kit installed. And I won't be doing heavy fast trail riding or mud jumping stunts....lol

    • @JohnFrancoNH
      @JohnFrancoNH  3 роки тому +1

      If you plan on only doing mild riding then the stock pinion plate is fine with 27" bighorns. My 2020 850 has the same tire setup and i still run the stock pinion cover. Its when you start going up in tire size 28" or larger and tires that have deeper lugs above 1" it would be time to upgrade it. I did mine because i run a set of System 3 XM310 with 2" lugs on the XP 1000 sometimes.

    • @JohnFrancoNH
      @JohnFrancoNH  2 роки тому

      yes because it will most likely get contaminated when drained.
