Agrreed. Completely! I had a feeling he was never going to die. That he was going to carry on running his nimble loving fingers over those keys forever. But we have some much of the wonderful playing he managed during his lifetime to enjoy. Hope he's enjoying his gig up there...
This concert was held in 1996 in Kobe, Japan, where big earthquake hit in January 1995 (Great Hanshin Earthquake). The city was completely destroyed. More than 6400 people were killed and a lot people lost houses. I think this concert by Hank, Ron and other musicians soothed the hearts of Jazz fans in Kobe, as they were still trying to recover from the damages. Twenty six years have passed since then, but as one of the citizens during that time, I want to thank again those great Jazz players for coming to Kobe.
Two guys at the top of their game since the start, playing with full respect for each others talent and pedigree. We`re so fortunate to have these moments frozen in time to admire and be inspired. Thank you for posting
Over 40 years ago, I've took a picture of Ron Carter who playing bass as one of the V.S.O.P. Quintet members at the Denen Coliseum in Tokyo. The other performers were, Herbie Hancock, Freddie Hubbard, Wayne Shorter, Tony Williams. I was photographer then. Just nostalgic.
I was lucky enough to live just outside of San Francisco and have seen these gentleman play as this group on more then one occasion. live music was everywhere affordable and you could sit across the table from the act that you were watching. personally I usually had a cognac of sorts ☮️
I started off doing exactly the thing -- and kept stopping work to watch the video and listen more intently. Bookmarked this video about 60 seconds in.
Ron Carter with his wonderful upright bass, what a treasure to the world music lovers and the singing melody of the maestro Hank Jones, thanks so much for this amazing video ❤
WOW! 👏🏽 This is so splendid. It reminds me of hearing these gentlemen in the '90s at the long gone and sorely missed Bradley's club in NYC. That was a prime piano solo/bass & piano/piano trio room back then. Such elegant creativity and dialogue between these giants.
I never got to see the Great Hank Jones but did see Ron Carter w/a great Vibes player whose nickname was "Bags". I had a good friend Anita Ruiz to thank for even knowing their greatness. Anita, I affectionately called "O'Day" after the great Jazz artist. Anita had 'non-electric recordings, original White Album (never known as that). So many incredible performances Anita turned me on to. RIP O'Day. Thank you for showing me the way to the Great Ones!
I had the privilege of having going to a show by the Hank Jones trio in Lisbon Portugal. Hank was walked to the piano assisted by other man, and when he put his hands on the keyboard it was magic. It looked as if the Spring of music has blossom in the first chord. Now that he passed the way and left his recorded work for us to enjoy, I'm certain that he's playing for God.

One of my favorite UA-cam finds in a long time. The first two duets with Hank and Ron are just on another level. Outstanding communication, pure entrainment.
Hank Jones & Ron Carter.
Green Dolphin Street--one of my favorites. First heard it when Nancy Wilson sang it. She is also one of my favorite all time jazz vocalists. This version is amazing!
Is it Tea for Two that Ron is quoting at 6:19 or something such like? He's finding it very amusing, he probably stumbled on the motif and surprised himself. Improvised music!

Oscar Peterson and hank Jones. Fav jazz pianist. I’m not even a pianist but I remember immediately being drawn to hank because I thought he had a “soft, effortless touch”.

Hank Jones is perhaps one the finest lyrical pianist in jazz. His playing is sublime and effortless. Superb musicianship. His syncopation is superb.

Maravilhoso!!!
Double bass fascinates me. This is a beautiful duo of magical jazz players.
Just beautiful. 14:50 love this moment when both men are just in awe. Hank says it all. “Bravo”. We are blessed to have these recordings today!
うわー!神戸で、ゴージャスなお二人のジャズ、、、、、最高ダネ。堪能しました♪♪♪ありがとう😊😊😊😊😊
Hank Jones and Ron Carter are legends. And this concert remains one of the United States' gifts to the world.

It was to do the day being of the heavy rain.
It enjoyed even if all became sodden.
It was wonderful time.

A treasure for Ron Carter fans. Pleasure of seeing his Ron Carter trio at Scullers in Cambridge MA🎹🎼🌺
What can one say. Just absolutely wonderful !. A superb moving performance.
How lucky we are to have this terrific example of these titans.
I was using this marvelous concert as a background to my work. But I'll have to resort to another soundtrack: this music deserves full attention.
I started off doing exactly the thing -- and kept stopping work to watch the video and listen more intently. Bookmarked this video about 60 seconds in.
The world is so wonderful with something like this.

Due musicisti che sanno prima di tutto suonare e bene. Poi che conoscono il jazz.
Talent in keyboard and string skills makes a wonderful world

Absolute fan of Ron Carter and Hank Jones.
I just regret that the sound of the bass was so anemic as someone said before me here.
awesome performance!
In 1970 we had the Billy Taylor trio at Manhattan college. I got to meet Ron Carter, Grady Tate, and Billy Taylor. What a treat
Hank Jones somehow went under my radar for 35 years hearing jazz. Yikes.
Now crawling through his oeuvre.
Great Jazz,Ron Carter y Hank Jones.
