    Flat pedal boards are amazing, and you can add risers/drawers to them which make them very useful. I made my own pedalboard with a 2x4", and a 2x6", along with some commercial carpet that I glued to the boards with Elmers glue, just turn them carpet side down with the weight of the board holding and pressing down, and let it dry overnight. Then just got a 1" wide role of 'male' sided velrco. I used a Donner power supply, very nice, not expensive, no noise coming from it, has 8 or 9 outlets.

    If you like flat boards, it’d be so easy to make something custom to whatever size/dimensions you need/prefer. I’m thinking that’s what I’m going to do for my next board. Currently using a Holey Board, but it’s got some limitations.

    For your mini pedals that are just below your power-supply you could get some elevated buttons from Barefoot Buttons that would give you some better clearance for your foot.
    They just fit on the footswitch with a set-screw. They have a plethora of cool stuff 🤘

    Not sure how much vertical space you have when you pack that board away in its case for travel - but a thought I had was making a "shelf" for the engine room (similiar to your other board). Wouldnt need to be too high, just enough to clear the engine room. You could also cut into the back a little notch for the powersupply out if its catching the edge banding of the board if its flat on regular board. Bit of DIY which I know you are handy at, but again dependent on how big the case is - but if that worked would give some extra room "on top" of the engine. Could drill some holes on the sides / top of the shelf to just add some venting as well if needed.

    I will soon remake my pedal board. I purchased a BluGuitar Iridium and have to wait about 4 to 6 weeks as its back ordered. The "I CAN'T WAIT" is terrible. Anyway just a suggestion on the pedal board case. I ALWAYS have and will build my own pedal board from wood at my local store. To make it a smaller footprint I make mine 2 levels vertically. As far as the case. I purchase a hard shell suitcase like for clothing. I modify the case to fit and secure my pedal board by gluing in foam. WAY cheaper and much better than the marketed pedal boards and cases in my opinion. Great video Dave! Cheers from New Mexico, USA.

    Love watching this. Partly because it's always fun to see the thought processes behind a board build & because I recently rejigged my board for the sake of space (actually requiring the sale of my Vox Wah for a Mini-Wah and a serious rethink on whether I need to custom kit some patch cables in the future). Now for my dual mono crap, I'm set in every regard. Though I see a millimetre of empty space on a board & think "what can I get in there?".
    Would caution on those Barefoot buttons for the NUX pedals. I've heard people say they can cause the switches to break if you are inaccurate and/or heavy footed.

    It was interesting watching you work everything out on your board. Mine has an angled construction that lets me put the power brick underneath. That is a nice new power supply you have, it does take up some space though! I know you travel with yours a lot and need the top to fit and protect everything. Cheers Dave!🍻

  • @0goldman
    @0goldman Рік тому

    I feel like the obvious solution is a "pedaltrain" style raised/angled pedalboard. You can install the power supply on the bottom, and have that much more space for pedals. They also make feeding cables much easier. I admire your "use what you've got" attitude though.

    • @0goldman
      @0goldman Рік тому

      Edit: You do mention your preference for flat boards. I will say, I found it weird getting used to angled/raised board myself. Wah/expression pedals just aren't ideal for them, so keep them on the ground next to the pedaltrain. All other pedals, once you get used to it, feel fine to switch on and off, without feeling like you have to balance on one foot to turn on a pedal. Food for thought!

    I also prefer FLAT boards as does guitar greats Paul Gilbert and Jake E Lee to name a few. Home made as well....."I could buy one, but where's the fun in that?"---as Paul Gilbert said in interview....I found single shelves from a local hardware,Home Depot type stores works great. They come in various sizes and colours or wood tones. So far I have White, Concrete, Stained Wood and "Black Shale".
    That combined with the stick on rubber feet AND Velcro came to less than 1 Slanted "Pro" board.
    Throw the completed board in a guitar bag or old case as Paul recommends or wrap in a heavy towel and a carry bag.
    Voila!!!....you are set to go. Whatever, the options are limitless.
    One thing I did discover. White or brightly coloured boards with white or neon patch cables, and even brightly coloured tape is AWESOME.....Yes, I know Black and Chrome looks more "Metal". but on dark stages, Bright colours are a Godsend.
    You can even buy those little Led stick on lights from the same hardware store.....Never be lost on a dark stage again!!!....For a fraction of the cost.
    And as always, don't forget the Zoom G2......Cheers Dave.

  • @LeeKirkman88
    @LeeKirkman88 Рік тому

    Raise them two peddles you've just added a bit sit them on wood like the zoom, I think giving them a little more clearance might help as you are having to tread really carefully. You dont want to upset the settings on the pedals in front.

    yeah I've been looking at the voodoo vibe, seems good, but i also felt that it's precursor, the Monterey vibe was slightly better cause i felt like the drive was more pronounced, but you've shown i could just add my own distortion and it would be pretty much the same.

    Great vid as usual. Felt the cogitation and brainstorming there! Yes, logistics. Nightmare. I'm currently procrastinating long and hard about the fact that I have to completely dismantle and remove my entire studio setup to paint and revamp the room, before moving everything back in and rejigging and re-cabling the entire setup to incorporate my new USB mixer and a new Sampler, both of which also have to be setup within my DAW and the audio routings worked out. I need an assistant! Enjoy the new board setup. Good work!

    Only partway through the vid at the moment, but it might be worth checking out the Schmidt Array pedalboards. They're very expensive, but also extremely functional and resolve a number of issues. If you get one of their _wx models, the main board will be angled, but the cutouts for wah/expression pedals are flat. Martin also does custom stuff (if you wanted a cutout for your Zoom). You can also get a lid for the board or even a flight case specifically sized for it. I have a SA750XDM_wx and it's fantastic! It cost quite a bit, but I'd absolutely buy it again. I expect to have it for the rest of my life. /fanboy
    Another item that could help is a loop switcher. You could either go completely crazy with programmable presets, the ability to re-order pedals on the fly, midi switching, etc. (i.e. Boss ES-8, GigRig G3) or something more basic that just puts the on-off switching up front (like the GigRig Quartermaster). One of the real benefits of a switcher is that it no longer matters if the individual pedals' footswitches are easily accessible, since the pedal always stays on and gets moved into and out of the signal chain by the switcher. This makes board Tetris a lot easier.

    Dave, Excellent video - great fun!! I love this stuff! A couple of comments based on personal experience.The Fender Engine Room is taking up valuable real estate on top of the pedal board. So, why not mount it underneath the board and simply make holes for the individual supply cables? Also, I'm worrying about is the number of pedals that the guitar signal has to pass through in a daisy-chained configuration - particularly as you're planning to add pedals.Each pedal sucks a little bit of tone and signal strength whether it's on or off. Have you tried the QuarterMaster switch? This device switches each pedal in or out of the signal path as required. When a pedal is switched out the signal path it short circuits the 'off' pedal which means no signal/tone loss. Also, use of the QM means that all of your foot switches are at the from of he board. No more peddle dancing! Keep up the amazing work! Malcolm.

    If long enough leads Dave, could you not have a separate bit at the back just for the PSU? Take the leads out and tie them when not in use and just plug in when you do? You'd have a ton of space for pedals with that off the board. I have a flat pedal board and although mine is smaller, my PSU isn't on the board. You can then also have a small water resistant case or something for the PSU itself for transport.
    Just thinking here as you're much more in the know than myself. Especially k owing what you want on there of course.
    But it's essentially what you've done with it but remove it off the board. If leads are long enough.
    Edit: for some reason I prefer my Wah off the board too and to the right on a slight diagonal. So big those things but I just prefer it. No idea why.

    I would go for a more modular setup, your current setup looks bulky to me and hard to carry around. Maybe some day you will give up the whole current concept and switch to a DSP modeling solution like the Line 6 Helix and a regular PA or FRFR amplifier. A lot of modern floor effect paddels these days use A/D conversion, so when one of these units is in your effect chain your sound is digital already anyway.

      @@thedavesimpson Aha gotcha. My board has a cavity to stow the power in but I guess it is also slightly angled.

    Bro, I've been watching your channel for years. You need a new fuzz... I mean you hardly use this beaten Double Muff and let's be honest it's not the best pedal in the world. I really think a new mind blowing fuzz would change your mind :) Try Variac MXR before the DS-2 - it's blowing my mind. All the Muffs doesn’t work like the Variac
