Fellow Michigander as well. Always enjoy your videos. Started a very similar build in 2019. Just getting to finishing it up now. Kinda funny to see how many people that have never done something like this like my self have also started this venture in 2019/2020

We’re down here in Alabama…have two older teens and a piece of property that’s paid off.
Looking ahead to getting out of the burbs…this all seems like an option for my husband and I. Y’all are answering a lot of questions we’ve had. I like the idea of steel for the siding on a cabin. Low maintenance as we age, seems great. We’ve got the issue of HEAT down here 9 months out of the year. Wondering if a mini split or two would keep us consistently cool? Thanks for all you do. Dave, Brooke, Jay, Jen and now you two are added to my list of folks to be thankful for! 🙏🏻

I’m so glad we answered some of your questions. We started this journey after our kids were grown and out of the house so it’s not too late! I wish I had some experience with the heat issue but I can sure tell you how to deal with the cold…🤣. You’ll learn as you go and you should make decisions that work best for you. Everything isn’t cookie cutter the same for everyone. I hope it all goes well for you and thank you for the encouragement. 😊

Solar is the one area that I have a hard time wrapping my head around. Once I find my land I plan to build the outhouse first and that's a great idea to put a small system on there. I'll learn the setup before I make a $$ mistake on the house.

@Dan & @Jay So much experience talking on that porch. Viewers need to slow down and listen to this one. From solar to water to plain common sense.
