    Last Christmas, I deliberately bought a small tree with the aim of doing just this. It's the first time attempting bonsai, and it was largely inspired by your earlier video. Thanks for the update on the tree!

    Always love the follow-up videos! Not very surprised with Peter Chan's trees to see that they are thriving, but certainly other bonsai channels should do this as well regardless of outcome. Many challenges to bonsai, not just styling decisions, many mistakes (learning opportunities). Everybody's goal is the same tho: healthy bonsai!

    Peter, you’re exactly right, you did start this trend. Being new to Bonsai, I used your guidance in creating my very first using a dwarf Alberta Spruce. It was first use of pruning and wiring for me, and I was very worried it was too much I’d removed. It came back beautifully with beautiful new growth at the ends of each branch, allowing me to start developing pads, which is where it stands now. Thank you for making my intro into Bonsai so painless and rewarding!

    I too started watching your videos around this time and my first bonsai is one of these that looks very similar to yours! I actually have since visited your place and bought more starter material and a few pots! I still marvel at how effective and cheap this was and lots of people ask if I bought it as a bonsai ready styled. I imagine you have inspired many here in the UK Peter, so thanks!

    I watched Peter style this tree with my mum, she was impressed. Three years later it's improved with age.

    Morning Peter, I am glad you have gone back to this tree, three years ago as you said, I bought a couple to experiment with I only paid 3.50 for each tree if my memory serves me right. The one I actually styled is a twin trunk, the principles are the same wether single or double, the other is a single trunk which I started, is at the moment in a growing area along with a couple I bought later. I am so pleased with the result, the tree is growing well lots of new foliage, like yours it needs rewiring to bring the branches downI must thank you for giving me the idea of using this species for bonsai, turning a cheap Christmas tree into a credible bonsai, you again have given me a kick up the pants to get on styling the other trees so thank you for that. Joe.

    Christmas trees has been my go to for years. Here in Louisiana they sell small young Christmas trees that people will decorate and put all over there house for Christmas. After Christmas all the leftovers at the nursery are put on sale and most people will discard them after Christmas. 🌳

    Nice video Peter! I have many pre bonsia in Alberta spruce. I'm from Alberta Canada. As long as you leave green it will be fine? Not worried about picking buds to cut back too?
    They do bud back I know.
    Also here the Dwarf Alberta spruce has been known to revert out of its dwarfism if left to grow untamed.

    Thanks for the update on this tree. I think that because the glauca conica is very cheap and relatively easy to create, many people assume that it is the ideal tree for beginners. Picea are not easy to care for, I had to go through the experience myself a few times. After I often saw videos about the initial design but no follow-up video so far, I assumed that the glauca was completely unsuitable. I currently have one that I care for and design very carefully. I hope she survives. Thank you again for the video and the tips you share.

      @@Ben7x26 Thanks. Unfortunately, wound healing is the least of my problems. My problem is that in summer I have up to 30° Celsius, a lot of wind and dryness. but in winter down to -20°. Finding a place for the Picea where it doesn't dry out, doesn't get too much sun but enough light at the same time and doesn't freeze to death in winter is difficult.

    • @Ben7x26
      @Ben7x26 8 місяців тому +2

      @@jonawolf8023 thats actually hard. You can try to protect it fleece in winter and place it very close to your house. Your house should give off some heat. Thats how I bring them over winter. But its not that cold here, only about - 10 -15° C. In summer you could place a fine - meshed net over your trees. Also a vessel under your tree pot that holds water can be filled up. The tree will absorbe it if its a clay pot.

    • @jonawolf8023
      @jonawolf8023 8 місяців тому +2

      @@Ben7x26 I've been experimenting for a few years, in the winter I have the trees on the wall of the house and build a kind of greenhouse out of Plexiglas. In summer I bury the pots in a large bowl with substrate (I still have to test whether sand or peat is better in the long run). The surface is covered with moss and in addition to watering, I spray the trees with water. it works, but is still not ideal. Boxwood and juniper grow very well in my area, and ornamental quince also copes well with the conditions. But the sensitive ones like picea or maple are not yet satisfied.

    I've tried several conifer and pine but haven't had much success, I have to give them a go outside I think it's to warm in my house to grow them inside , my t-tree is happy indoors and I have had a little bit of success with cuttings from it

    • @jonawolf8023
      @jonawolf8023 8 місяців тому +3

      Conifers need the different seasons and lots of sun; they only survive a few weeks indoors. picea are also relatively demanding; pines are easy to care for provided you have slightly acidic soil and lime-free water. The easiest ones are junipers. But they also need a place outside.

    The advantage of Xmas trees is their availability. Come January, people are desperate to get rid of them in the annual Tree Genocide.
