    It's been my observation that mum's love to have these trees in their garden. Idk why specifically mum's just a weird thing but my point I always see them and I've always low key wanted to have one to bonsai but just never have done. It's been easy to spot the bonsai enthusiasts in Sainsbury's lately, they're the ones shunting the Omorika trees back and forwards looking for decent trunks.
    I was quite surprised to see how many trees my local Sainsbury's had in stock, I was expecting maybe half a dozen or so but there must have been well over sixty. Took me ages to sort through them all.😱

    Thanks Corin. Got one of these last year with the intention of turning it into a bonsai, however Domestic Management decreed that it should stay as a mini christmas tree for reuse this year. Its actually done quite well over the year. I think I'll get another one and have a go. They look good.

    Last year I bought a lot of cheap trees just after Xmas (before New year) as they are all on sale! Be careful with being Christmas trees with intention of growing them as bonsai as some shops scam customers into buying potted trees which were actually field grown and only potted just before sale! Thr good thing is we will most likely repot them at this time of year anyway 👍

    Spruce trees are quite difficult to train as bonsai - take long time to wire and then sometimes still spring back to the shape they want 😁. They were made for heavy snows, and being bent for many months during winter . They make surprisingly nice niwaki "cloud pruned " garden trees though - seen some nice ones in Poland

      I have a 6' Doug that I collected from a volcano here in Washington, I have now had it for 2 years and it's budding like crazy, will finally attempt to repot it into a wood box I built. It was against some rocks so one side has no roots, need to center in the grow box and see if I can coax some out. My forever Christmas tree, along with 3 I grew from seed, I swap them out of my living room, each one gets a couple days so they don't wake up from winter slumber.

    I'd also like an updated video about your soil mix in regards to not being allowed to use peat these days.

    • @greenwoodbonsaistudio
      @greenwoodbonsaistudio  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Liam, We can use peat, in a few years we won't be able to sell it retail. But for now it's okay, the amount we use for bonsai is very small. Once we can't sell it we will have to use a lesser alternative that has probably been shipped halfway across the world by diesel engines, thus saving the environment. lol

    • @liamrymer665
      @liamrymer665 2 роки тому

      @@greenwoodbonsaistudio yes, I imagine that will be the case. I'm thinking along the lines of a mix of coir and leaf mould along with perlite and John Innes. It should keep it nice and loose.

    • @greenwoodbonsaistudio
