Can You Beat Borderlands 2 as a Normal Person?

- Опубліковано 1 жов 2024
- For all of its ups and downs, I adore Borderlands. I've come back to it year after year. More recently to take on various challenges of which there are apparently opportunities galore. And as much as I've enjoyed it, it's been even better to share that passion with so many wonderful people, so... thank you for coming along for the ride. I really hope that it's been worth the fare.
While normality is relative, I thought it'd be fun to take on the game as a fairly unnoteworthy individual. And might I just say, I didn't think common guns were so inaccurate. I've used them when they came around for ages, but dang...
The specific rules are as follows:
1. No using skill points.
2. No gear of a rarity uncommon or higher.
3. No class mods/relics.
4. No elemental weapons. Yes, this includes explosive launchers/Tediore. The only exceptions are grenades.
5. No using shields that do damage/grenades that do anything other than blow up.
6. No melee within combat, nor bouncing upon thine enemies heads.
7. No buying healing...

22:19 You know that totally relatable moment, when you, as a completely normal person, decide to use a grenade jump to get somewhere in your everyday life. Such a relatable moment.
I think we all go through things that we don't want to in an effort to avoid things we want even less. Brushing your teeth kinda sucks, but you should do it to avoid tooth decay. On Pandora, sometimes ya gotta cause some possibly severe injuries to avoid lethal ones.
I just realized, the best consistent source of commons is the slot machines. The slots generate loot consistently around your level, and you get crap more often than anything else.
gambling is always the solution. ALWAYS.
Proving once again that gambling is based.
you can’t… 😔

spuddy you really gonna make me cry with the heartfelt messages. you are an amazing creator and your videos have filled the hole in my chest the past few days, I've done nothing but binge them on repeat after all. thank you spuddy, i personally hope one day i can be in your shoes, torturing myself for the amusement of others in janky challenge runs
I'm really glad that it can have that sort of impact. Thank you for being here! And for being so kind.
Ya never know how something like these runs might start. I never really pictured myself doing these sorts of videos until I did, and I'm really glad I tried. It turns out, the whole process can be weirdly fun/rewarding.
If you're passionate about making something though, it's never too early to start learning the ins and outs of how you'd like to go about it.
Your a special guy! Thanks for the time and effort you put into these videos!
@@SpuddyCube i recently broke up with my bf, and the kind words at the end of the video are genuinlly going to make me cry, thank you for being here and making me laugth
PSA: YOU DON'T NEED TO GO THROUGH THE FRIDGE! Just hand in the mission at the button, get the fast travel inside the Fridge, travel to the dust, and go through the Highlands exit.
Huh, I've been playing this game since release and that never once occurred to me. Could be very useful when doing stupid challenge runs.
@@superscatboy Always hated those rat bastards
@@Nagas_Arcana Yeah, they suck. They would get a lot more hate from the community if rabid stalkers didn't exist lol
thank you just used this 🙏
Damn dude.... those words were heartfelt as hell. Dude no thank you for putting yourself so fully into your content like thit. Might just be a video about a game on UA-cam but passion is passion and passion will always shine no matter the subject.
😊 I really appreciate that. In ways that I evidently don't think I can voice as effectively as I'd like.
Damn, this was kinda great to witness! I know it is just a silly run of BL2, but... Thank you for the kind words. This shit shouldn't hit like it did lol
Thank you.
I've learned a lot of things doing what I do. One of them is that you never know where kindness can come from, and you never know just how much of an impact small acts of it will have.
I'm really glad it could have a positive influence on your day. And sincerely, thank you for being here!

It's so heartwarming seeing Claptrap finally get the love he earned.
I always high-five him on my playthrough, poor guy earns them.

Nice to watch a normal guy playing through a game normally
Just gotta avoid things like those newfangled mechanics. They always go around complicatin' things.

The real question. For tax purposes, are the Crimson Raiders employers or is this considered contract work?
“Gotta say, my own medicine? I don’t like it!” You sir, have some absolute gems
As a normal person if I was ever in pandora I would get a shield at my first opportunity.
Truth be told, I'd probably be panicking too hard and end up dead before figuring out how I even got there. That place is scary!
Do you play tiny tinas wonderlands? Id be curious to see a D20 dice gear only run.
So far, I've only gone through it once, so I'm not super familiar with some of the facets of it. Do you mean the Lucky Dice or something like the Die-Vergent? I don't know if there are other weapons that function similarly, but I enjoy the idea of both runs conceptually.
@SpuddyCube Yes, the lucky dice. There is only a limited amount of them scattered across the map, and literally rolling the dice on whether or not you get anything good sounds so horrible that It might be fun. I also believe you can't save/reload those dice rolls.
A normal person would take damage from falling high, and that Bunker elevator skip would make anyone's kneecaps implode
Well... It wouldn't be the first time that I got hurt in the process of doing something stupid out of spite.
While being a normal person in borderlands 2 is just killing everybody that you see if you're being a normal person in Pandora
Damn, the moments in these videos where you break from the game and speak to us the viewers are the highlights. You are the change you wanted to see in the world SpuddyCube, keep growing and don't ever stop doing the things you love.
spuddy this will sound mean but i mean the best for you i think your a great guy and you make really good content i hope one day you believe in yourself more idk if it was a joke but you sounded like you needed a hug during that bunker rant be confident in your abilities and you let your passion for being yourself shine through your doubt
I don't think it sounds mean. Quite the opposite, it's very kind of you to say. I appreciate it!
I tend to joke about a lot of things, so I can see why it would be hard to tell one way or another. The whole experience of doing what I do has had me doing a lot of learning/unlearning. I take the mental health of others extremely seriously, so... part of it is figuring out how to do the same for myself. Self doubt is a heck of a thing... But I'm working on it, and I'm considerably happier for it!
Thank you!
For a normal person, you’re one of the better ones. Congrats on 10k+ 🎉
3:44 I didn't know normal humans could safely jump down from such height. I know what I'll be doing after finishing the video 🙃
Wait, no! It only works on Pandora! It's clearly a gravity issue.
a normal person also wouldn't grenade jump, especially not above a lava lake
i watched this video and immediately went back and watched your other BL2 and 3 challenge runs (i've not finished Wonderlands and don't want spoilers). i really enjoy your commentary, both for the humour ("i don't even need the elevator! you forgot to secure your wall!" is such a good line) and the more down-to-earth asides
(also i really appreciate you making a ruleset that allows you to give ClL4P-TP the high five he deserves. he's just trying his best)
Are you implying that Australians wouldn't fist fight with a Bullymong?
The “OH GOD NO!” On knuckledragger has to be the funniest thing I’ve heard today 😂
Just encountered your content on the Borderlands 3 Only Mail run, and I’m gonna be devouring the rest of your vids so I’m happy to see a new one.
Thank you! I appreciate it, and I hope the older content isn't too bad. I'd like to think I've gotten better with time.
@@SpuddyCube Considering how hard I just laughed at the Tyreen Rant in the “Iron Cub” video I can say your content is pretty consistent.
the warden is always a good measure of how reasonable or unreasonable a run is
Yeah... I tend to try to consider if I can get through it/Wilhelm. Both have the same issue of shields/surveyors to contend with.
Who uses elevators u forgot to protect ur wall
Handsome Jack: he is hacker :v
It's always the weirdest parts of one's fortifications that things seem to falter. Similarly, it varies as to how much he'll protect his toaster.
Quality content right here my man
When I clicked on this video i was expecting a chill video with a lil bit laughs here an there. But what i got was really unexpected, I do enjoy your content an do hope you make more borderlands content. 👍🏻
So this is just a oboeshoes run with white rarity only
Play Borderlands without any of what makes it unique
At 17:18 seconds your words reminded me Of a song called perfection can't please me. While it is a video game song from guilty gear I think a lot of those songs are relatable. From trying to forgive yourself or trying to accept that you or anyone else will never be perfect, and that's okay. To other themes, songs that make you think on if I am doing the right thing... All this to say, keep it up. Believe in yourself! Got a subscriber from me :)
How dare you make me cry with a bl2 challenge run
Shields make sense because they are just the equivalent of protective armor which are I guess pretty normal to wear in combat situations
Skillpoints, I mean....some are alright like , gun accuracy or critical would just mean that you gained more experience in that type of gun which is normal to be more skillful in a gun you use more often
I do feel like normal people are able to pick up and use higher tiers of loot if they can find them. If a normal person finds an unforgiven, there's nothing that would reasonably stop them from being able to pick it up, aim, and fire
It's the "if they can" that's the key there. Luck is weird. In this run for instance, I'm fairly sure I found more uncommons than commons, which is more or less exactly in line with how RNG tends to go for me. Always exactly the thing I can't have/don't want.
normal person challenge failed, being an incredible person and dropping an inspiring speech in there put you above the average mark
i think i spent more time fing around with goliaths then i did with the rest of the game combined xD
Sort of felt like pokemon, but the pokemon want to kill you too... and they turn into a loot pinata after they've kill everything in the area.
I love how when you first saw this video, you probably assumed it was like the normal person GTA 5 videos. But in BL2, just you know, maybe not mass slaughtering people or not using crazy guns or something. But no, he took away skill points, buying health, shield, uncommon or better gear, class mods, and literally just punching. So you know, like 85% of the game
For the whole fist fighting thing: I'd like to introduce you to the whole state of Florida.
Fair... But does the state still fit the bill of "normal"?
I understand the purpose of this video is entertainment and it would be fairly boring but I feel like a normal persons game would end when they got to sanctuary. Because if I were in this world and I managed to reach sanctuary, I would never leave again.
It would be incredibly tempting to do so, but starvation is a very powerful motivator. Axton's gotta earn a living somehow. It does make me wonder what the majority of people do around Sanctuary though. I don't think it was ever established how they get things like basic necessities/fill standard roles in a functioning society.
someone has to say it, you've got a cute voice
Now beat it *like* a normal person
No exploits
No skips
If you see a bug/glitch: reset to last save
If the AI breaks, shame on you I guess
At this point, I'm growing unsure that I can beat any game without seeing at least one glitch. _Especially_ this one. Even per area... I dunno...
Man's talks in 1.25x speed
for this entire video, i thought you were gasmask doing a bit on like "normal people are really nice and not dickheads or something" but then i realized it wasnt, and the entire videos friendlyness hit all at once, i hope you have a really, really nice rest of your day.
Nah, he does some incredible work, but I can not claim to be he. He also tends to do things more on the OP level side of things, and I don't know if this run would even be possible in UVHM.
Thank you though! There are certainly worse people to be mistaken for, and I'm really glad that it came across with a warm feel. That's really reassuring.
And I of course wish you the same! 😊
Challenge failed for not strictly trying to stay on roads and never boosting in the car, like a normal person would.
smh my head
I dunno, the roads around these parts might disagree a bit.
Today on challenges id never do because they look like pure pain this one
4:07 I have no evidence but i'm almost certain the game starts adding weight to the better items as your level goes up, with possible exceptions to boss drops probably being the same - so mainly it's just about world drops getting better and better. white items legitimately feel kind of rare most of the time unless it's like a crappy slot machine pay out - I'm used to seeing a lot of green trash.
I feel like this run would have been better if you only used Tediore guns. After all, they are the every man’s gun.
I felt that the explosive reload was maybe a bit too outlandish for the theming. I don't recall how well they do or don't perform otherwise. My preferred method of using them tends to be just throwing the things.
Normal?...buddy there's no normal in borderlands(I don't mean this as mean just trying to make a joke)
Well there's... normally on fire. Or... normally exploding? There's gotta be a peaceful planet somewhere in the universe.
I mean. What's truly normal anymore?
Well, normal is sort of a nebulous term when it comes to humans. With so many different people from so many different walks of life, the idea of anybody truly being "normal" is in itself rather strange.
For the purposes of Borderlands though, it just means not being a walking death machine.
I just came across your channel and this is my first video. Your commentary is great, it is really funny and entretaining and I really like the editing. You will definetly get bigger if you keep grinding. Loved your message too, you have definetly done something right
You mean a life a an AMERICAN 🦅

@@SpuddyCube also idea explosives only run or Light the fuse only run (if its possible) or grenades + light the fuse on krieg would be cool to see:)
Using explosives/grenades isn't *too* bad. LilGasmask proved that you can get through even the hardest difficulty using the Fastball. Light the Fuse on the other hand... Light the Fuse, I'm absolutely interested in trying.
It’s always good when spuddy upload’s

The best thing about challenge runners playing a game 'normally' is that it comes across as more of a challenge to them then doing some absurd build.
Ten thousand here, soon to be millions.
Your content is beautiful, as well as your motivational quotes.
I don't even play Borderlands 2 but I love this video, what a kind and sweet message
Thank you for making it
I cam here to watch a guy play a silly little game about shooting silly little doods with silly little guns and instead got BROADSIDED BY THE FUCKING FEELS TRAIN! THANK YOU!
Love the thumbnail 😂
I've got a new rule for this run if I do it myself: No fast travel unless it's necessary to progress plot, and no jumping off of cliffs, because a normal person would absolutely suffer fall damage.
To be fair you can sometimes see citizens in sanctuary teleporting with the fast travel during 'rising action'
Because of the amount of insane bandits and evil corporations, wouldn't the "norm" in this game be like a psycho or someone working for one of the corporations?
Edit:love the vid yo❤
Thank you for all the content you made!
Well dying to bewm and boom is as normal as you can get. So I feel like it runs in line with the challenge.
You are an absolute treasure of a human being, and the unexpected emotional moments were needed at a very dark time. Thank you, and i hope you have a good life going foward 🎉🎉
I did a normal guy / no elementals / no grenade mods / one death run several months ago. I actually made it to End Of The Line where that cyborg asshole slapped me over the cliff.
I really, really appreciate the moments when you open up and tell us how you feel. It’s quite pure and sincere and it gives me hope and a feeling of being seen and understood.
Ironically "common" weapons seem to be quite uncommon
Right?! I swear, they just didn't seem to want to drop for me!
14:05
The geneva conventions divides people into four categories: armed combatant, civilian, armed noncombatant, and the fourth category I forget, but includes religious personnel and medics. The Hyperion contractors fall into the category of either armed combatant, or armed noncombatant. Both are equally okay to shoot.
Technically they're PMCs. They fall in the "okay to kill yet legally dubious to exist" category if Blackwater, Sandline and Wagner are to be understood.
oh yeah grinding is an option in the normal play through cause normal people don’t have the world scale to be the same level with them or up to 10 levels above
im pretty sure gambling is pretty normal in bl2 so slot machine white rarities wouldve been ok
By all means, it probably is at least fairly normal. But I'm certainly not gonna have a hand in helping to further normalize it. I won't shame people for gambling, but I will shame the groups that prey on a populace that largely has a poor understanding of statistics.
@@SpuddyCube fair enough, I kinda just meant on pandora but I get why you wouldn't want to promote it
what's with the quitting out when "bouncing? I'm confused
It's simple. It does damage. There's no way to know for sure if it could have changed the overall outcome.
You're wonderful Spuddy!
So I know this comment will probably get lost in the aether but the wholeseomness in this video is much needed. I lost my father 13 days ago and his funeral is tomorrow afternoon. My life has been a Rollercoaster of emotions since then. However your simple words have put the warmth back in my heart. Thank you so so much
I'm so sorry for your loss, and I hope that the healing process feels more like healing and less like a process. I'm really glad that you could stop to enjoy something, and that I could have that kind of effect. Always remember that it's okay to feel, and grief really doesn't have a time limit.
I can't speak for your personal life or those around you, but I believe you owe it to yourself to take all of the time you need to go through the things you need to. It's not about getting back to who you were before such a major change. It's about finding the person that you'll be after.

I might have bought this game 3 times. However you cant prove it. Jokes aside I had it for ps3 bought it when it released on ps4 and once I built a PC awhile ago I bought it again. Money WELL spent. 10 out of 10 Would do again.
I think I technically own like... five copies?.. And I've played it on every device I own it on. Hard to say just how much time I've spent with the series already, but evidently, I'm still excited to do more.
hey this is a cool video , love BL2
I know this is old but I love the title bro lol, just came across it just now so thatd I’d say that
wow, great content you got me emmotional in the end. And during bunker fight- great fucking insights
Ive seen a couple of videos from you show up in my suggested but after that message at the end and a tear to my eye, i have no choice but to subscribe. Makes me feel good knowing that my time will now be invested into someone who cares about their community and is truly thankful.
Funny to see you picking up and sometimes preferring to keep Roid shields in a no-melee run. Also couldn't you have in multiple cases, bought common guns off of a vendor?
I tend to aim for around three and a half or less for my regen delay. No specific reason, but that's usually where I'm most comfortable. With melee and all of the other offensive shields being banned, roid shields are effectively just normal shields which works for what I need.
As for the vendors, I did pick up gear a few times from them. But... emphasis on a few. I've gotten really into the habit of assuming that the gear Marcus sells is going to be terrible, so I never bother to check. It definitely would have been helpful to the run if I stopped falling into that mindset.
recently discovered you and youve become one of my favorite borderlands youtubers, love your videos man
1:07 you know you can shoot those ice blocks hurled at you... Just be careful of the bigger one.
Hey I don't think a regular guy is going to stand in the open when in a gunfight. Literally everyone knows to stand behind something instead of walking into the bullets.
That's the thing about knowing what's best and performing in a dangerous/high pressure scenario. They're two very different things, and most folks are prone to panicking.
HOW DARE YOU MAKE ME HAVE FEELINGS WHILE I'M TRYING TO WATCH THE COLORFUL SHOOTY GAME
Catch 22 if you undertake this challenge your already not a normal person.
I’d try fighting a spiderant but everything else will eat me including the people
Run invalid. I think a normal person would probably be turnt into minced meat doing the dunk at Bunker. Should've taken the elevator.
Ah, but I don't trust elevators. I'm taking _steps_ to avoid them. Or in this case plunging through an elevator shaft...
Statistically on Pandora isnt "normal" being a bandit because theres more wasteland than most and everyone not living in a town is mostly the oddball borderline or Ex bandit
On Pandora, sure. But on a galactic/universal scale, I would at least like to believe that there's something more civilized than the manufacturing giants and the destruction that they've left behind.
Hey spuddy finally learned to plug things in the video. Im so proud
I feel like learned is maybe a strong way to put it.
@@SpuddyCube Ya still did it finally so thats good enough for me. Jobs done. Now just gotta do that every single time and you are well on your way to a true "Professional".
I dunno, that sounds complicated. Who even needs professionalism?!
Great run, funny video!

Will try later, if you don't hear from me again, it doesn't work.
these heartfelt messages came at the worst time. I came to watch a yt video to distract myself from my breakup and bro got me out here crying
I'm sorry to hear it, but I hope that you're doing alright. The healing process is usually a rather painful one, but by the end of it, you should ideally be stronger for it with a better vision of your future. Learning experiences can often be absolutely agonizing, but I would hope that you can one day look back on it and see it as just that. In the meantime, I'm rooting for you. One step at a time until you can wear a smile as bright as the happiness that you deserve.
Your from the hear comments through out the video just got you another subscriber.
Dry humor with a side of wholesome. Could these be my people?
it took me 34 hours to beat the game the first time so you did it quite fast, but i did run on a shity school laptop att 15 fps
I don't tend to think of myself as a graphics snob. I don't need things to look super shiny. I don't honestly even need sixty frames a second... But fifteen sounds painful.
“Normal person”
“Picks Axton with no deliberation”
The sheer amount of disrespect for the guy that can huck fastballs in FFYL has always astounded me.
In the same condition, Krieg can go around using dynamite. Salvador can still effectively reload and fire multiple heavy weapons.
Nothing against people that enjoy Axton, but the guy's basically the vanilla ice cream of the vault hunting world.
@@SpuddyCube yeah but Krieg and Salvador can’t instakill Hyperius. Axton’s Tediore reload build is legitimately one of the most fun play styles I’ve ever had with any character. Onslaught, Expertise, and Ready make for an “I am speed” build that’s indispensable for slag-n-swap in UVHM. Grit lets you ignore death at random which is hilarious. Quad barrel Torgue shotguns at their max damage potential while negating the long reload time. Corrosive plasma casters. The Norfleet. The Baby Maker. The Hornet. The Flaker. 25+ grenade capacity. If the phrase “dual longbow nukes” doesn’t make you excited, then it is you sir, who are the vanilla ice cream around here.
Just found your channel and love your commentary. Suggestion:Bl3 Moze(human) no iron bear or cub, brand loyalty to who work for(Jacobs/Atlas)
Thank you! I'm glad to hear it! I think the suggestion though is maybe a bit too close to the mail run I did a little while back. It definitely can be a fun flavor of allegiance run.
Yeah I know owe thinking do it like a best of from your last challenges put together into one character. You could still use skill points, but no mec. You would be stuck with atlas/jacobs only up to uncommon unless you got it in the mail. No shield as those companies “pay you” for services. I know it’s convoluted and there are other rules. Your videos inspired me to try this myself and I thought it would be cool to see if we have similar experiences. Sorry to ramble, love the commentary and your whole positive vibe! Even if this challenge isn’t for you please continue to make videos. Of course the borderlands one I like the best
Hi. How are ya?
Said shortly before you get capped by a common weapon of all things.
Wonderful weather, we're having.
Followed by a modless grenade, because generic grenades stopped dropping, and they scaled higher without.
Would a normal person 360 no scope jack at the end? I think not. Disliked.
Lol jkjk
I cried
The tactics of this run seeming so straight forward and easy speaks volumes as to the caliber of some of the other challenge runs that you've done! You are a mad lad, awesome and skilled, but mad I say! 😆
You know, come to think of it, you really could get past that Hyperion checkpoint gate with just, like...a decent sized ladder.
