My First 360 Degree Rig in Moho!

  • Ever since I first saw them, I've always wanted to create a 360° degree rig!
    I've been studying the Moho animation software over the past few weeks and I've finally learned enough to attempt my first 360° degree rig project;
    Things didn't go the way I had hoped but I sure did learn a LOT!
    ✅Bone Dynamics
    ✖ 360° degree head and body turn
    ✖ Flexi binding
    ✅ Actions and Smart bones
    ✅ Animated Layers
    ✅ Layer Masking
    ✅ Keyframe Animation
    In the end my 360° degree rig exercise wound up being a 180° degree rig test. The accumulation of technical debt from little mistakes here and there was too much for me to want to fix. But, I learned a TON of stuff from what I had built so far and I'm excited to carry my insights into my next rigging experiment!

    using point binding for bones instead of flex bonding. you could also make 4 different main poses in 4 bone layers and then switch to other pose when you turn. so many ways in moho to do 360 it is not difficult

    This thing is, while there may be plenty of Moho tutorials in a sense, most of the tutorials are too beginner level and do not go through these specific issues like your describing, and as a result, there's not a lot of "quality" tutorials for Moho, and there's no real guide to making the best rigs without trial and error, and sometimes you can complete a full rig before having to scrap it because it was done wrong, or because it takes up too much CPU, and this defeats the purpose of going through tutorials if you have to run through these problems anyway.
    There needs to be more tutorials at intermediate and expert levels that go through Moho pro's bugs and how to work around them, how to make unique Riggs where the pose remains consistent throughout the entire 360° turn, such as hands and fists that are able to open and close as they rotate 360°, how to make your own character creator setup by swapping body parts and limbs to quickly make unique characters from previously created characters, how to design characters that look semi-realistic rather than only cartoony while keeping CPU usage lower, and dynamic rigs, such as having a pen bone to move and rotate the head in all directions which includes Up/Down/Left/Right/Front/Back, and more.

    • @RigTheory
      @RigTheory  Рік тому +1

      You make some solid points, Bi0Dr01d. I hope that my next tutorial will outline both the steps and the pitfalls. Have you seen Yang Shi's latest video? Really cool documentation of 360° rigging. ua-cam.com/video/b9q-v9u5oiM/v-deo.html

    • @Bi0Dr01d
      @Bi0Dr01d Рік тому

      @@RigTheory Yes. Yang shi's videos are among the best of Moho Pro's tutorials, because he actually fits these descriptions for the most part, even though he does not speak English. I think characters can look more realistic than his, but they are still quality characters that he designs, and he does discuss more advanced rigs.

      Yes. It's not obvious but yeah, you can change the position of the bone chain all you want but if you change the angle of the bones when you're editing the smart actions the rig won't work correctly.

    Hi, I have a question, not involving Moho, but AnimateCC an FlashTolls pluggin?
    I was wandering if you have had any luck setting up/rigging a face for 360 or parallax effect when head is turned, like can be done in Moho, with controls? Is it even possible with FlashTools? I have been experimenting but so far not getting the results I want.
    Look forward to hearing your findings, cheers

    • @RigTheory
      @RigTheory  2 роки тому +2

      Thanks for checking it out. I have a method I use to set up faces (eye blinks and lip sync) but it doesnt work well for smooth head turns. You have to line up the keyframes across several layers in order for it to look correct and I still have to pop from Front to 3QF to Side (and so on). I'll try to post some examples because I'm working on a project where I'm doing this a lot.
