I had 3 hairless boys and loved them to pieces. The only problem I had with their skin was brought on by my own ignorance, believing the myth that they needed to be moisturized. One of them developed a big pimple-looking abscess, but after treatment and no more moisturizer, he healed perfectly and never had another abscess. One of my boys had a Zymbal's gland tumor and was put to sleep, but the other two were very healthy and lived long lives. I miss them to this day, even though it's been years.

in my experience of having a hairless rat, hairless rats are the best! my last two boys just passed away and one of them was hairless (finnly and theo) and i’m getting new baby’s soon and im really thinking about getting all hairless! Another thing people think about hairless rats is that they feel weird and you wouldn’t want to touch them but they just feel soft!

I had two hairless rats. One of them was the healthiest, most active and by far the longest-lived of ALL the rats that I've owned!

The second was average, healthy, no issues.

I have 3 hairless girls & 1 hairless boy rat. 2 of the girls & the boy come from a litter where I adopted the mom, Chloe, who has hair, & her pups. I also adopted Priscilla, who looks a lot like Tofu, and 3 of her girls, who all have hair.
My hairless rats seem to be far more active than their mischief mates & are leaner as well. Not a single skin issue between them, either, even though they are of unknown lineage. The tiny occasional scratch they may get seem to heal very quickly, too.

Yes, my hairless rats were skinnier than other rats and it is a very good thing. A rat's lifespan is inversely proportional to its weight (this has been found, because there are a lot of scientific studies on rats 😕) Hairless rats expand more energy due to heat loss from no fur and that keeps them leaner!

Tofu is such a sweet rat, she always has the expression of a wise elderly monk. ❤ My two hairless boys Vincent and Cole were amazing, but they had lots of health issues. Cole had a cyst that required surgery, both had skin issues. There was something going on neurologically, they were incredibly clumsy and slow in their reactions. Cole was fighting a lot with his packmates, so he always had scratches. They were still wonderful rats. Vincent was shy at first, but then he would always follow me around like a puppy and climbed my leg to snuggle into my hoodie. Both died at around 1 1/2 years, but they were rescues, so there might have been genetic issues from poor breeding.

Hairless rats tend to be skinnier than other rats and it is a very good thing. A rat's lifespan is inversely proportional to its weight (this has been found, because there are a lot of scientific studies on rats 😕) Hairless rats expand more energy due to heat loss from no fur and that keeps them leaner! As I said in the previous comment my hairless Arthur was by far the longest-lived, he lived to almost 4 years of age! And has been much more active than the rest of the rats.

They are so cute, I wish there was places to get hairless rats here as I'd get two babies for my current two furred rats. I think they don't exist here for the reasons you mentioned, people think they're bad so they're frowned upon to breed

I personally prefer rats with fur, but I would never say no to a nude rattie just because of their looks. Also, I love Tofu's eyes - in the photos she looks as if she's smiling all the time, even more so than her furry friends 😍❤🐀🐁🐀🐁🐀🐁❤

I had hairless rats in the past and I loved them to bits one of my girls looked like raisin so I called her ragamuffin but called Muffin for short and her sister was naked but I knew when they were ill their body temperature dropped. When they were healthy they felt like hot water bottles so cosy, cuddly and warm and my girls that had fur loved them to bits and they would all cuddle up in a big ratty huddle together. I also had 2 hairless boy rats and they were great as well and got on well with 2 of my boys with fur and they would all snuggle up together. And my hairless boys and girls they had very curly whiskers and such beautiful big eyes and was so cute. They all lived a good healthy life and I didn't have many health problems with them an odd cold now and then but they all recovered well from it.
I would love to get some more nakies again but I can't get any here.
I love all different colours and varieties of rats because I love my rats to bits I don't care what they look like even though I have had some biters over the years I still loved them to bits. Thanks again for all your amazing and fantastic videos and your rats are so cute keep up the good work with your videos.
Thanks Amanda and the pets 🐭.

I have no issue with hairless rats, I think they look funky! I wonder however if they all have whiskers or if there is a difference for example with double rexes. I can't always seem to tell and obviously I want my rats to be able to use all their senses. So if somebody knows, I would love to get more informed on this!
    Thanks for the video :)

It’s a cosmetic feature with no benefit to the rat and only detriment even if it is only that they are merely somewhat colder. Just my opinion. I do not like this trend, in Guinea pigs either, even if it can be healthily done the unethical breeding will nonetheless occur to follow trends. I appreciate your insight a lot.
