Glad I found this, as I’m currently looking to get an mx5 nc and mod it up so it’s suitable for both road and track - but use as a stepping stone to a 981 S.
Look forward to hearing your comparisons, it may have an impact on how much I decide to mod the MX5 (supercharging, suspension etc) - as it’ll essentially delay the saving up for the 981 S.

I must admit I find it a lot more relaxed and enjoyable tracking an NC over something as costly as the 981 and how I like to drive/have fun is much more suited to a front engined rwd car lol! Luckily I have a little turbo mk1 mx5 track car to scratch that itch! It's a tricky call! The Cayman feels incredibly special and it's been a total dream purchase for me :). I get your concerns about taking it on track, admittedly I always buy a track day add on when insuring my cars on the road - but there’s still the possibility of big repair bills.
I may get the cheaper earlier version of the MX5 NC, to have that play about with on track - with less worries 👍🏼

@@courtneyrager2166 Thanks bud, the mk3s are incredibly fun and rewarding! Massive step on from the mk1/2s. Totally get you in terms of track insurance if the worst happens but so often it's just scuffs, cracks and general abuse that makes a car look tired/well used after a few years of track days! I don't mind and am all for it.... but it's easier to stomach on the Mazdas where the owners tend to be a bit more like minded :).

      @@CIRCUITDRIVERCARS that’s a very good point mate.
At the moment I’ve both an RX8 & E92 V8 M3, and admittedly I’d much prefer to use the RX8 out on track as it’s not as precious to me as the M3.
Often I’ll take both down on the same track day, do a couple of hours in the M3 to stretch it’s legs - then swap cars and abuse the RX8 for the rest of the day! 😁
Admittedly my ideal combo would be the MX5 & 981 S. One day hopefully 🤞🏼

I only just fitted them minutes before that vid (hence the dirty hands haha). But I have experience with them on a friends and was very impressed, albeit we would swap out the fronts for the EBC RP pads. I think they are a great all rounder for the money especially for mixed use like this (road and some light track work). On a car like the DC2R it will most likely be a little friendlier on pads too. Really rated the orange stuff for longevity so hoping the blue aren't drastically worse!

Just used it for the 99ron map including air filters etc. It made most difference to the mid range flat spot and the raised rev limiter sounds pretty friken special. It basically takes the wide open throttle restriction that Porsche put in place to nerf the 3.4 engine vs the EXACT same engine in the 911 lol. Certainly pulls harder... but again... it's a lot of money!

      @@CIRCUITDRIVERCARS
Yeah I mean the 2.7 is slightly over 100bhp per litre and the 3.4 is quite a bit under so like you say they clearly held it back a bit, the weird thing is according to Cobb’s figures on their website the 2.7 has max gains of 13.3% yet the 3.4 has 7.7%. You would think it would be the other way around. I do find though the 2.7 really could do with more power so while the Cobb won’t totally transform it, any increase in power would be welcome so might end up getting one, especially if I can land on a well priced used one.
