My husband and I went to Montreal in 2012. Our friends and colleagues said that we would not like Montreal. Back then it had a reputation of being unfriendly to tourists. We heard so many people say that no one would be helpful to us and that no one would speak English, even if they were bilingual. However, we found the opposite to be true. People were very helpful. Everyone spoke English. And those that did not speak English well, give it their best. We had a wonderful time. And the food was amazing. We went to Paris in 2017. Paris deserves it's lousy reputation.

Montreal is the capital culture of Canada, UNESCO design and creativity . People are nicer than Toronto and west coast includin Alberta. Montreal city is built for human( walk, bike , transportataion best subway ( fast, clean and modern _) English Canada is always bashing on Quebec by jealousy... we have the best quality of life, food, culture, architecture and very open minded. We are a free world society in all languages . i am a french speaking and when a have a group of people if one person sleaks only in english , we all speak english . Historically, english canadian think they are superior to the french speaking and impose their language .

@@jeanbolduc5818 The reason that English speaking Canadians bash on Quebec is because they've never been there. Before we left for Montreal, everyone told us we would hate it. They said that everyone would be rude to us and no one would speak English, even though they could. They were wrong on all counts. However I have not had your experience with English speaking Canadians, either. I'm from B.C. and I've also been to Alberta and Saskatchewan. I've found people in all these provinces to be nice.

merci for taking time to write your experience ... We all need people like you in Canada and in Quebec

Not so true,we do not build , building ,history or culture as we did before. Vancouver is a nice city , but without it's location , it is just a generic North American city with the same culture, language , architecture , food . Founded too late to be able to it's own indentity . Everything seem to be recently imported and not digest to make a unique indentity

Wow, tough call. Both are awesome cities and I've lived in both (including downtown and the suburbs of each). Much as I hate the short, hot humid summers and long, cold snowy winters in Montréal and prefer the mild climate and short, warm and virtually snowless winters in Vancouver, I'm kinda feeling it more for Montréal. BC seems to be getting hit hard with climate change and natural disasters, I'm experiencing much of it in the Okanagan Valley (and high cost of living). Never thought I'd say this, but I didn't appreciate how good I had it when I was in la belle province. Montréal me manque! I think one day in the near future, I may be moving back there.

Go explore both for yourself. People's interpretations are nice and decent grounding, but it's when you actually visit a city that you'll know. Been to both.
Both had pros and cons. Vancouver I feel is more laidback and very outdoorsy. Montreal however has more culture in the city when you're walking around. One street can be Italian, another of Latin origin, African. Etc. You really notice it in Montreal compared to places like say Regina or Saskatoon. Montreal and Vancouver are great though. See what lifestyle you'd like and you can go from there

Thanks dude this was really helpful I'm stuck between Vancouver or Montreal mainly because I don't know if I will be able to afford a decent life in Vancouver with a budget of 1000/month. I mean what good will all these outdoor activity and restaurants be if you can't afford them ? So I'm thinking Montreal because rent is less crazy 🤪

So torn. One of these cities I want to move to. Lived in Edmonton all my life and desperately need a Change. Vancouver is more nature and outdoorsy. Montreal is too, but you'll experience a milder climate on the west coast.
Montreal however is more affordable. I found it cheaper with things like groceries, etc compared to Vancouver. Montreal also has a lot of culture. Vancouver is diverse, but it's more so I'd say in Montreal as Montreal is Canada's second largest city. it really depends on your lifestyle or goals. But I'd take both cities over others. Been to places like Calgary, Regina, Winnipeg. Montreal and Vancouver are nice. More mountains in the west coast, more culture and ethnic diversity in the east.

This was a C good way to dramatize the differences between the two cities. The real shame is that they are pretty far apart - 5 hour flight, and not that cheap to jet back and forth. Thecphysical setting ofvVancouver grabs you - possibly the most beautiful city in the world. As you said, it is not a culture capital, but for the outdoor minded. As classic cities go, Montreal is light-years better, and the Abu b dance of high-rises in Vancouver is the turn off, and it is much more expensive. It is also Asian-centric, as opposed to French-centric. Montreal becomes a harder city to love year-round because of the harsh winter. From mid-May to mid-October, Montreal wins the prize, but the other 7 months, Vancouver gets the edge. Since I plan on being a dual resident, I prefer Charleston, SC for 7+ months and then a place like Montreal or upper New England for the Mother's Day to Columbus Day/Canadian Thanksgiving. For sheer recreation, I actually like Vancouver Island/Victoria better than Vancouver, as it has more sun and less rain, but the job opportunities are in Vancouver. Like Montreal with Mt Tremblant, Whistler is about 90 minutes north of Vancouver via a spectacular Sea to Sky Highway. It is hard to choose, so you getting to experience both is great. However, just a city, Montreal is best - architecture, culture and cuisine - a much more extensive Metro (Sky Train does not really cover that much of greater Van). Butchart Gardens on the Island and QE Gardens in Van are great parks - but Butchart are not free. The ferries in Vancouver are also nice, along with the seaplanes to the Gulf Islands & Vancouver Island. A trip up the Inside Passage for whales and wildlife is a great trip, or to the San Juan Islands of Washington state. I would like to try the stand-up paddleboards on the English Bay or Burrard Inlet on the West Coast. Stanley Park is the most gorgeous city park anywhere, and so accessible to downtown. The little water taxis to Granville Island are also a feature. I just missed the lack of culture in Van, and not as many restaurants and bars with that great ambience. The salmon is unreal however, and I ate it 2-3x per week!

Monttreal is the only city in Canada that qualify for the Copenhagen index biking ciy .We have mountains , lakes and national parks all around the 4,5 millions inhabitants of Montreaal. I wouldn't say that one city is better than the other. They are just different. But if I had to choose, I would choose Vancouver. I can't really explain why. Maybe it's because Montreal seems more European and I'm from Europe. Even though there are of course differences to Europe. But Vancouver has the bigger differences. The West Coast Style. The nature, beaches and lifestyle. Probably that's the reason. Anyway, again a great video. Keep it up! 👍

I've been to Montreal multiple times. My fathers family came to Canada from Belgium in 1645. ( yes we have all the family tree/ the records to prove it). They stayed in Trois Riviere and the Iles of Orleans until the late 1800's. My great grandfather was the first to leave Quebec and for a Frenchman he was not impressed with Quebec either. From my exposure I would have to say I would not agree with the open minded comment. It is a beautiful province in its depth of history and its architecture but most of what makes it beautiful is what the ancestors created. The Quebec of the last 100 - 150 yrs has become ignorant, racist and self absorbed. Her founders roll in their graves.

Ahemmmm....thee are plenty of beaches on the east coast , specifically Nova Scotia and PEI. What makes Vancouver different than the rest of Canada is the beaches ( which are NOT naturally sandy, the sand is brought in)and the mtns so close by. In the winter is where Vanc shines as you can get world class ski hills and then go golfing or kayaking in the same day. However I will always prefer Nova Scotia as the temperature is similar to Vancouver but with more snow for precipi rather than Vancouvers rain.

An equivalant house is four time the price in Vancouver ( with yearly municipal taxes corresponding to the price of the house ! ) You have to live somewhere don't you ? so if you want to raise a family and send kids to university and live in confort without to much sacrifice , the choice is obvious unless you are a chinese multi millionaire !!! Buy a lottery ticket now and go to Vancouver .

Vancouver people are rude. It is filled with people from India and Asia who don’t mix and cannot speak English. Montreal does multiculturalism way better and people are very nice and polite.
