    It is often good to give yourself a challenge. I think I would have paid a bit more for lunch -'maybe a grocery store salad bar, as bagel + patisserie for first 2 meals would not have satisfied me, and I need my coffee in the morning. When I was in college, my roommates and I would try to eat simple meals one day-according to a food stamp budget, then donate the difference to an organization feeding the hungry. The choices were not super healthy, but cans of tuna, Dinty Moore stew, day old bread from a bakery, a hot dog, etc all gave nutrition at a low price, and Ann Arbor had a farmer's market with some deals for some fresh fruit and vegetables. Spaghetti with tomato sauce was a nice meal, and back when I was in school, there were budget motels that were very inexpensive. We did not actually stay there, since we had our apt, but we counted the expenditure as if we had for the donation purposes. It was not that bad, and we felt good to donate $$ to needy folks. It came in handy a couple times later, when business ran into trouble and I was forced to eat very simply. Kraft dinner, Ramen noodles, etc, tuna right from the can were very cheap meals. When pushed, our minds can get very creative.

      A bagel with cream cheese remains one of the least expensive snacks/light meals I can think of in Montreal. With a nice coffee and a fresh local apple, maybe. Or a blueberry muffin.

    You are one of the best vloggers I have ever seen on UA-cam.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Your videos need to reach more audiences. Can you believe, if you have $100 you can live comfortably in our country for about a month. But Canada is a beautiful country. I've seen a movie about the French relation in Canada before. We rented a greystone in Shaughnessy Village with parking!!!! We are looking forward to the Rogers Cup Tennis in August, delicious bagels (totally respect the bagel wars) and hiking Mt. Royal with the PUPPY. If you see a red headed girl with a southern voice, say Howdy.

    Hey, my friend just solo moved to Montreal and she is living on a 600 amonth which her rent is 450 already leaves her struggle with foods, could you please make a video about like cheapest things she can get, or things she can get for free, advice, cheap meat/fish, or simple life hacks where she can be living normal and not on rice and bread with butter.. I am just worrying for her :'(

    • @hdufort
      @hdufort 2 роки тому +1

      Food prices have gone up a lot recently in Montreal and in most of the world. If she is eating meat, the last expensive cuts would be pork shoulder (which can be slow braised in the oven) and chicken legs (drumsticks). Farmers markets have gone full "high end" but there are still lots of bargains for produce. Also supermarkets such as Adonis have produce that are fresher then elsewhere, at reasonable prices. Flour, cooking oil and sugar are affordable. Eggs are rather cheap. Québécois eat LOTS of eggs. She can try mixing buckwheat flour with white wheat flour and make crepes or pancakes. Maple syrup, apples, blueberries are good toppings.
      Be prepared to cook a lot. At least electricity is super cheap.
      My weekly meals look like this:
      Braised pork shoulder served as Carnitas or in a Parmentier (with a layer of mashed potatoes).
      Beef or veal pâté chinois (shepherd pie).
      Crêpes with ham and cheese.
      Crêpes with baked apples.
      Apple crumble.
      Spaghetti with cream sauce (homemade) and bacon.
      Rice with red bell pepper and onion, served with chicken legs.
      Omelette sandwich in English muffin (like a McMuffin).
      Pork and shrimp burger (arctic shrimp is relatively affordable).
      Homemade fish sticks.
      Homemade Cesar salad with chicken.
