Hind Rajab, who the song was named after, was a 6 year old Palestinian girl. Her family's car was bombed. Only Hind and her cousin survived. Trapped in the car, they called the Palestinian Red Cross for help and paramedics were dispatched. 10 days later, when the IDF tanks left the area, Hind and her cousin, along with the family were found dead in the car. Not far away, the 2 paramedics who were dispatched were also found dead.
When you hear the recording of this poor sole begging for her life believe me you will be a different person. A 7 years child is crying for help, and yet the whole world is watching 💔

Rachel was about 5 years older than me. We grew up in the same area. She was my brother's age. I am finally going to college at 40 years old and I go to the same school as Rachel was enrolled in when she was murdered. I march with the foundation that her parents started. We have known for a very long time that when America says all people are equal that they don't really mean it. I hope someday it is true but until it is I will continue to spread the seeds and help everyone understand. Also, Macklemore is from here too and is about the same age as my brother and that Rachel would be if she were still alive.

The tank is right next to me. We're in the car, and the tank is right next to us.' The PCRS sent a team to rescue them, having gotten permission from the IDF to do so without being targeted as well. However, after 12 days, on February 10th, when the Israeli army withdrew from the area, Hind Rajab and her six relatives were found dead in the car, along with the two paramedics sent to rescue them, who were also found dead nearby.

The best analogies to what has been going on is that Israel has had a system of different laws for Jewish citizens vs Arab (either Muslim or Christian). Literal Jim Crow laws. If you’re Jewish you aren’t allowed to marry outside your religion. That was literally a Nuremberg law from the Nazis but the Israelis enshrined it in their own laws. If you’re Palestinian you can’t go to certain areas with being arrested or shot. It’s exactly like apartheid in South Africa (which is exactly why they brought the genocide case against Israel) or the Deep South during segregation. There have been lynchings of Palestinians for decades. The IOF will arrest people for little reason & claim they’re terrorists while not charging them or giving them a day in court. That’s the context leading up to the Oct 7th attack.

Not just the IOF arresting people - they literally kidnap P kids on the regular, down to the age of 9, try them in military courts that almost always deem them guilty, and then throw them in prison for years, without ever informing their families. They get tortured in there, you can google the whistleblowers from the prisons. There are almost 5000 prisoners like that in jail in Israel RIGHT NOW. Hamas may be terrorists but their demands were always that they'd let the prisoners they took go if the Israelis got out of Gaza, ended the war, and released the P prisoners. Seems pretty fing reasonable to me. I'd be mad as hell too if someone had their boot on my neck for 75 years and the world called me a terrorist for trying to get it off me.

There’s no genocide. Israel is fighting for its own survival against a people who are ruled by a terrorist organization who started the war. The terrorists hide amongst civilians which is the reason for the many casualties. The number of casualties is sad but no one wanted the war.

A lot of ppl try to make this “conflict” more complicated then it is. But what this is about is after WW2 Europe (mainly the UK) 1: didn’t want a bunch of Jews as refugees in their country but 2: also had guilt for not stopping the holocaust. So they carved out a piece of land where Palestine already lived, to create a Jewish ethnostate (why we didn’t make Germany cut out a piece of its country to the Jews and made the Palestinians give up their country is crazy). An actual war was fought to take that land and massacres and displacement of the native ppl was carried out. True horrors occurred. Rpe, murder, torture. Then over the years with the support of the west Israel has committed ongoing apartheid and ethnic cleansing of the Palestines with what’s happening now the actual worst yet. So many murdered women and children. The American govt loves Israel bc it’s an ally with “western values”, in a region that has a lot of oil. The reason it’s so important for the ppl of the west to protest is bc they’re supporting this in our name with our tax dollars. We give Israel multi billions and even if ppl are racist and don’t care about oalestians, maybe they should care bc Israel gets everything we don’t get. Free healthcare and education while we’re crushed by medical debt and predatory college loans. But I’d like to think most ppl don’t want genocide to occur on our name. My best friend is from Gaza and I go to The Evergreen State college. Evergreen is the college that a girl named Rachel Corrie was enrolled in when she was murdered by Israel. In 2003 she was on a trip over there. Back then Israel was occupying Gaza the same way they do the West Bank now. Rachel met a Palestinian family who were good to her and genuinely treated her with kindness. Israel wanted the land that their house was on and after unsuccessfully trying to scare them into leaving Israel decided to just bulldoze the house they lived in while they were still there. Rachel got between the house and bulldozer hoping that an American in bright clothing would at least make them pause long enough for the family to get their important things out and get to safety. It did accomplish that but not the way she had hoped. The IDF ran her over and then backed up over her. At first they said it wasn't them. Then after video came out they said it was an accident even though you can see them look directly at her when the dirt under her lifted her up to their level in the machine and like I said she was a blonde American in bright clothing. No way they didn't see her. No one was ever held accountable and our own government backed the Israeli decision. Many many times in the last 76 years this same thing has happened with the same ending. And what is happening now in Gaza is the worst attack on Palestinians but it is a thing that Israel does on a regular basis. They are claiming that they are going after Hamas but there is no Hamas in the West Bank and since Oct 7th over 500 Palestinians have been murdered in the West Bank and they have "arrested" *taken prisoner* over 7000, yes over 7000 hostages. So when people say "oh what about the hostages?" Please remember that there were ~200 Israeli people taken hostage on Oct 7th, but Israel has taken 35 times that many from just the West Bank, and if that's not bad enough, look up the torture camp leaks. An IDF soldier leaked a video and a few have done interviews about the camps they are putting Palestinians in and the horrific things they are doing to them there. Sorry that's a long comment. He’s a political science professor, Jewish with both his parents having survived the Holocaust, he lived both in Palestine and Israel and he’s been studying and writing about the entire situation for over 40 years. And on top of that he’s very well-spoken, you might just want to drink some coffee while listening because he tends to drone on, but it’s worth it. There is no better source to know exactly what’s been going on in the region. Marc Lamont Hill is a great source for the latest news bear by beat, and so are the guys at The Majority Report (and Sam Seder is also Jewish). By the way, if you want more fire bars on this issue, Shouting At The Wall by MC Abdul is a great track, and two things are impressive about it: he wrote it and recorded it when he was TWELVE and living in Gaza, and the second thing is that the situation he described in 2021 still perfectly applies to the situation now. It’s such a wonderful and heartbreaking track, honestly.

Free Palestine! ____________________________ Up until WWI Palestine was part of the Ottoman Empire, which was dissolved and divided by the League of Nations after the war's end resulting in English mandated colonization of Palestine. In 1917 England was approached by Zionists who wanted to purchase Palestine and because England has historically been *the worst* they agreed and announced their support of an independent Jewish state in the Balfour Declaration, which referenced the Arab population as, "Existing non-Jewish communities." The Arab population was about 750,000 or approximately 94% of all Palestinians. The modern day US population equivalent would be roughly the same as referring to America's white, black, and Hispanic communities as existing non-Asian communities, accurate but deceptive. After WWII, at the behest of the United Nations, England partitioned Palestine into Palestine and Israel. This is known as the Nakba, or Disaster, during which over 15,000 Palestinians were cleared and over 500 towns and villages were destroyed. When you hear in Macklemore's song the line "the Nakba never ended, the colonizers lied" he is referencing this event. And the reason he says it never ended? Israeli aggression continued by way of military governance, notable instance include the Qibya and Kafir Qasim massacres, though smaller instances like forcing citizens out of their homes and villages, the removal of the name Palestine from maps, and not allowing the return of Palestinian refugees were ongoing occurrences right up until the next major even, the Naksa or Setback. The Naksa began with the Six Day war, when Egypt refused to allowed Israeli ships access the Suez Canal. Israel backed by the UN invaded Egypt, who helped Palestinians maintain their lands by occupying Gaza, and who had defense agreements with Jordan and Syria. At the end of the six days war 20,000 Arabs were dead compared to 1,000 Israelis, and somewhere around 300,000 Arab Palestinians were driven from their homes. From the viewpoint of a former US sailor, this war should have been the end of any positive relationship between the US and Israel, as Israel had a highly suspicious "accidental attack" on the USS Liberty, killing 34 American service members. Anyhow, the Naksa continued with Israelis agitating Palestinians until the Palestinians would defend themselves, at which point the Israelis would attack with disproportionate responses. The UN even documented Israeli psyops teams had gone through villages destroying homes until everyone fled. This type of aggression had not ceased and in the late 1980's the Palestinians began protesting, rioting, and creating civil unrest to draw attention to the injustice taking place against them meeting violence with violence. This is known as the first Intifada, or uprising. Israel responded with 80,000 troops sent into Palestinian territory; these soldiers used live rounds and lethal force in response to this unrest. As a result in the first year Israelis killed 142 Palestinians in Gaza alone, while Palestinians kill zero Israelis. This trend of brutal suppression, barbarism, and inhumanity continued as it has since 1948, with no consideration made even for children, nearly 30,000 of whom were beaten so severely by Israeli defense forces they had to be treated medically by Swedish volunteers. Of those 30,000 children roughly a third were under the age of 10. In the early 2000's The next generation of Palestinians protesters began the second Intifada, and the next generation of IDF responded exactly as the previous had, attacking viciously and indiscriminately. Over 3,000 Palestinians were killed compared to roughly 1,000 Israelis. This is a cycle of Israel demanding land and power, and Palestinian people first asking, then demanding, then fighting for peace. If Israel stops the war stop; if Palestine stops they will be annihilated. If you can read further more comprehensive histories it becomes even more clear that Palestinians have been deeply wronged, ethnically cleansed from their homes, silenced and made invisible by the Israeli state. Hind Rajab, who the song was named after, was a 6 year old Palestinian girl. Her family's car was bombed. Only Hind and her cousin survived. Trapped in the car, they called the Palestinian Red Cross for help and paramedics were dispatched. 10 days later, when the IDF tanks left the area, Hind and her cousin, along with the family were found dead in the car. Not far away, the 2 paramedics who were dispatched were also found dead.

Hind's Hall, named after Hind Rajab, the 6 year old child targeted and killed by Israel in Gaza. In January 2024, she and her family were shelled by the IDF while in their car. Hind and her 15-year-old cousin, Layan Hamadeh, were the only survivors, trapped within the car. They called the Palestinian Red Cross Society, with Layan saying, 'They are shooting at us. The tank is right next to me. We're in the car, and the tank is right next to us.' The PCRS sent a team to rescue them, having gotten permission from the IDF to do so without being targeted as well. However, after 12 days, on February 10th, when the Israeli army withdrew from the area, Hind Rajab and her six relatives were found dead in the car, along with the two paramedics sent to rescue them, who were also found dead nearby.

The best analogies to what has been going on is that Israel has had a system of different laws for Jewish citizens vs Arab (either Muslim or Christian). Literal Jim Crow laws. If you’re Jewish you aren’t allowed to marry outside your religion. That was literally a Nuremberg law from the Nazis but the Israelis enshrined it in their own laws. If you’re Palestinian you can’t go to certain areas with being arrested or shot. It’s exactly like apartheid in South Africa (which is exactly why they brought the genocide case against Israel) or the Deep South during segregation. There have been lynchings of Palestinians for decades. The IOF will arrest people for little reason & claim they’re terrorists while not charging them or giving them a day in court. Hamas may be terrorists but their demands were always that they'd let the prisoners they took go if the Israelis got out of Gaza, ended the war, and released the P prisoners. The reason it’s so important for the ppl of the west to protest is bc they’re supporting this in our name with our tax dollars. We give Israel multi billions and even if ppl are racist and don’t care about oalestians, maybe they should care bc Israel gets everything we don’t get. Free healthcare and education while we’re crushed by medical debt and predatory college loans. But I’d like to think most ppl don’t want genocide to occur on our name. Most ppl are just waking up to this sht bc for decades we’ve only been given pro Zionist propaganda. We’ve been taught to support an ethnostate that is also committing textbook apartheid. It’s why Nelson Mandela said we aren’t free till the Palestinians are free. A man who was on the terror list until 2008 bc we also supported the South African apartheid regime.

It's a very welcoming side of life to be on, you are surrounded by smart compassionate ppl all around the world. My best friend is from Gaza and I go to The Evergreen State college. Evergreen is the college that a girl named Rachel Corrie was enrolled in when she was murdered by Israel. In 2003 she was on a trip over there. Back then Israel was occupying Gaza the same way they do the West Bank now. Rachel met a Palestinian family who were good to her and genuinely treated her with kindness. Israel wanted the land that their house was on and after unsuccessfully trying to scare them into leaving Israel decided to just bulldoze the house they lived in while they were still there. Rachel got between the house and bulldozer hoping that an American in bright clothing would at least make them pause long enough for the family to get their important things out and get to safety. It did accomplish that but not the way she had hoped. The IDF ran her over and then backed up over her. At first they said it wasn't them. Then after video came out they said it was an accident even though you can see them look directly at her when the dirt under her lifted her up to their level in the machine and like I said she was a blonde American in bright clothing. No way they didn't see her. No one was ever held accountable and our own government backed the Israeli decision. Many many times in the last 76 years this same thing has happened with the same ending. And what is happening now in Gaza is the worst attack on Palestinians but it is a thing that Israel does on a regular basis. They are claiming that they are going after Hamas but there is no Hamas in the West Bank and since Oct 7th over 500 Palestinians have been murdered in the West Bank and they have "arrested" *taken prisoner* over 7000, yes over 7000 hostages. So when people say "oh what about the hostages?" Please remember that there were ~200 Israeli people taken hostage on Oct 7th, but Israel has taken 35 times that many from just the West Bank, and if that's not bad enough, look up the torture camp leaks. An IDF soldier leaked a video and a few have done interviews about the camps they are putting Palestinians in and the horrific things they are doing to them there.

In 1945 the Zionist European Jewish ppl (not all Jewish ppl not even a fraction of them) wanted a country of only just ppl they got the UN to agree to give them Palestine because it was under British control. So a settler/colony project like the US/Indigenous but it’s still going 75 years laterz they perpetrated horrible atrocities then and that was called the Nakba (Arabic for catastrophe)

And on top of that he’s very well-spoken, you might just want to drink some coffee while listening because he tends to drone on, but it’s worth it. There is no better source to know exactly what’s been going on in the region. Marc Lamont Hill is a great source for the latest news bear by beat, and so are the guys at The Majority Report (and Sam Seder is also Jewish).
By the way, if you want more fire bars on this issue, Shouting At The Wall by MC Abdul is a great track, and two things are impressive about it: he wrote it and recorded it when he was TWELVE and living in Gaza, and the second thing is that the situation he described in 2021 still perfectly applies to the situation now. It’s such a wonderful and heartbreaking track, honestly.

Up until WWI Palestine was part of the Ottoman Empire, which was dissolved and divided by the League of Nations after the war's end resulting in English mandated colonization of Palestine. In 1917 England was approached by Zionists who wanted to purchase Palestine and because England has historically been *the worst* they agreed and announced their support of an independent Jewish state in the Balfour Declaration, which referenced the Arab population as, "Existing non-Jewish communities." The Arab population was about 750,000 or approximately 94% of all Palestinians. The modern day US population equivalent would be roughly the same as referring to America's white, black, and Hispanic communities as existing non-Asian communities, accurate but deceptive.
After WWII, at the behest of the United Nations, England partitioned Palestine into Palestine and Israel. This is known as the Nakba, or Disaster, during which over 15,000 Palestinians were cleared and over 500 towns and villages were destroyed. When you hear in Macklemore's song the line "the Nakba never ended, the colonizers lied" he is referencing this event. And the reason he says it never ended?
Israeli aggression continued by way of military governance, notable instance include the Qibya and Kafir Qasim massacres, though smaller instances like forcing citizens out of their homes and villages, the removal of the name Palestine from maps, and not allowing the return of Palestinian refugees were ongoing occurrences right up until the next major even, the Naksa or Setback.
The Naksa began with the Six Day war, when Egypt refused to allowed Israeli ships access the Suez Canal. Israel backed by the UN invaded Egypt, who helped Palestinians maintain their lands by occupying Gaza, and who had defense agreements with Jordan and Syria. At the end of the six days war 20,000 Arabs were dead compared to 1,000 Israelis, and somewhere around 300,000 Arab Palestinians were driven from their homes. From the viewpoint of a former US sailor, this war should have been the end of any positive relationship between the US and Israel, as Israel had a highly suspicious "accidental attack" on the USS Liberty, killing 34 American service members. Anyhow, the Naksa continued with Israelis agitating Palestinians until the Palestinians would defend themselves, at which point the Israelis would attack with disproportionate responses. The UN even documented Israeli psyops teams had gone through villages destroying homes until everyone fled.
This type of aggression had not ceased and in the late 1980's the Palestinians began protesting, rioting, and creating civil unrest to draw attention to the injustice taking place against them meeting violence with violence. This is known as the first Intifada, or uprising. Israel responded with 80,000 troops sent into Palestinian territory; these soldiers used live rounds and lethal force in response to this unrest. As a result in the first year Israelis killed 142 Palestinians in Gaza alone, while Palestinians kill zero Israelis. This trend of brutal suppression, barbarism, and inhumanity continued as it has since 1948, with no consideration made even for children, nearly 30,000 of whom were beaten so severely by Israeli defense forces they had to be treated medically by Swedish volunteers. Of those 30,000 children roughly a third were under the age of 10.
In the early 2000's The next generation of Palestinians protesters began the second Intifada, and the next generation of IDF responded exactly as the previous had, attacking viciously and indiscriminately. Over 3,000 Palestinians were killed compared to roughly 1,000 Israelis.
This is a cycle of Israel demanding land and power, and Palestinian people first asking, then demanding, then fighting for peace. If Israel stops the war stop; if Palestine stops they will be annihilated. If you can read further more comprehensive histories it becomes even more clear that Palestinians have been deeply wronged, ethnically cleansed from their homes, silenced and made invisible by the Israeli state. Israel has even gone so far as to make ancestral DNA testing illegal to obtain, or speak about results because when Jewish people have been taking DNA tests they haven't been showing any of the ancestral genetic markers one would expect to see from people of Middle Eastern descent. Why is that important? Because that means the Israeli government knows that they have no rights by ancestry to lands which they are occupying.
Please do not misunderstand me, Jewish people who want a Jewish state are free to establish one, but not the way they have historically gone about it and certainly not via the route the current Israeli premier is taking which is genocide. There can be no peace on stolen land, there can be no peace in apartheid, there can be no peace until Israel stops murdering innocents, and there can be no peace until Palestine is free.

Ok ok the first question about "saying it's anti semitic to be anti Zionist" is the excuse pro Palestinians are given when we try to support Palestine is that it's anti semitic (hatred against Jews) but Zionist tend to have a very strong leaning towards taking all of the land of Palestine, including hate against Palestinians (implying they're animals, etc). Hank Green has a good video about the history of Israel and Palestine if you'd like an abbreviated history (it's old so it won't go into the Oct 7 history) but I think knowing the history will help understand the lyrics because Macklemore really did some clever lyrics here.
