I remember listening to his songs when I was a little boy, I still remember the words to many of his songs,..what a terrible loss to music. RIP Johnny, you were one of a kind.
I loved Jhonny cash and idealized him and Jonny Horton I was not old enough to Jhonny Horton but followed cash all of my life and took a car ride the day he died and cried I lost one of my hero,s that day 😥 can't wait to see them all in heaven Thay had a big impact on my life
Remember the first time i ever heard I'm a honky tonk man. Was riding with my dad in the front seat of a 1949 ford car. And guess where we were going ? That's right fishing. Thanks for the great old memories. God Bless !
Horton and Hank Williams senior were both married to the same woman. Both had their last performance in the same night club and both died in a Cadillac.
Once, when I was about 16, I was in the house and I started singing, (I've got a hole in my pirough) .... My mother overheard me, and sharply shouted at me, "Harry, YOU quit talking LIKE THAT!" Wouldn't even give me any chance to explain!....the more I tried to explain, the angrier she got!
His best song was "I'm a one woman Man". The guitar work in this song is fantastic and the credit for this must go to Tommy Tomlinson and he changed Horton's music to the rockabilly style and the guitar work in these songs is so much better than in his early songs. I love Horton's songs and I firmly believe that Tomlinson's influence is often forgotten. Brian Battle
Johnny Horton is one of those singers that left way too soon. He definitely had more to offer. Imagine how many more folk ballads he would’ve sung. Johnny Cash even did some of the readings at Horton’s funeral. Horton was a great storyteller as well. When he sang those ballads you can hear the history in them. Even though I don’t think he wrote any of the ballads he sung. His career was also starting to kick off when he died. As for Johnny Horton predicting his own death that is pretty scary. He was definitely a man who loved what he did and didn’t let fame get to him. Also because his career was so short he definitely has this myth and legend quality to him. Like you can see the star that was blossoming when you hear him. However Horton once said the only thing I can say is the Good Lord was good to me and I’m very grateful.
He recorded ALOT of Jimmy Driftwood's music/songs. Nobody seems to know who Jimmy even is. You should cover Jimmy and His music and His back story. Thanks for covering Johnny Horton. I definitely learned new stuff from this 👍

@@CMSProductions I think it's a travesty that Horton is not in the CMHF. Perhaps, it is his Rockabilly roots. To think that he was not around long enough, is not a good reason. There are many who were younger when they passed, that are is the CMHF. Horton deserves a place in the Hall, and there is no good reason why he should not be in it. Thanks for the video. It is wonderful!
Being born in the south doesn't make you a rebell neither does it make you ashamed of your ancestors! It makes you a part of the souths history !! At a time and place that we the citizens had no control over as it is today , politicians create the war ; we must fight their battles !!

To this day, his songs still bring you back to simpler times, when days seemed to last forever, and life didn't seem so complicated.
I feel the same way about him and Don Williams.
Thank you Johnny Horton .
I love his music
He left this world too soon.

There was and will ever be only one Johnny Horton. Nobody sang or sounded like him.
That is the truth 🤠
The Essential Johnny Horton is a GREAT compilation of tunes, it's my go-to drivin' music!

They should make a movie About Johnny Horton. One of my faves
I agree. I would be the first in line to see it.

I was like 3 in '60 when Johnny died. My parents were fans.
I was born in early 60 . It was my mom's record I feel in love with.
I Saw Johnny Horton at San Antonio At Lackland 1959 first star I ever seen the it was an exciting show I was 18 years old at the time
That was sweet. I wish I could have met him

I didn't know the JOHNNY HORTON MAKES HISTORY LP was released after his death. And that some versions don't contain NORTH TO ALASKA ???
It wasn't. It came out three months before his death. "North to Alaska" never appeared on that album.
North to Alaska was recorded as the theme song to the John Wayne movie of the same name
