Now he's working at trying to commercialize bluegrass music, To me the only real and down to earth music left. Country might still be country without people like him. This whole world would be a better place with people like Hank who did things cause they loved it not because they feel the need to fill there pockets. I'm a minute into this video. And I already feel compelled to make a comment that may become redundant after watching the entire video. History is my thing and music is one of my things. As a kid I grew up in a little town called North Bergen New Jersey. Was blessed with a father that wasn't just a good man but had really diverse musical tastes. Going from the Beatles to Sinatra to the Four Tops to Al Green to Merle Haggard to Johnny Cash and the catalog just went on and on. And 1969 when I was in first grade I was the only kid in my town that new the lyrics to Hank Williams songs. I didn't think of them as country songs I just thought of his damn good songs. No different than the way I felt about I Want to Hold Your Hand by the Beatles. Songwriting is songwriting. I'm not going to go into that then does Hanks life unless I feel like it's not covered in this video. But if you want to see on film a pretty historical representation of Hank Williams life I would suggest that you look at the film and I can't remember the name of it but Tom Hiddleston plays Hank Williams. And he Nails it and the director and the writers don't pull any punches and it's ambiguous. It's not just sad it's also about the joy of writing music. Yeah I'm a rock and roll guy but I love Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson especially in the 70s and without Hank Williams I don't think those guys would have gotten their chance country music would have been corny. Just like Pat Boone singing Tutti Frutti which was a little Richard song. I can already tell by looking at this video it's dated but I see Marty Robbins and I have a lot of respect for having both in his career. So I'm hoping this will be a meaningful video. Something that touches the heart and educates at the same time. But if you were Hank Williams Senior fan that BS Hollywood movie in the 60s with George Hamilton was... was BS. The movie with Hiddleston also the female actress that played the Scarlet Witch in the Marvel movies they're both spot-on. The movie didn't make a lot of money and that's why it's free on Tubi or someplace else. But you have actors that could have in between Marvel movies took a movie that made millions of dollars instead they took a very small movie that was meaningful. And it's more of a 70s movie with a few caveats. Scorsese would be proud and I thank Hank Williams Senior. And interpret it is all work better than anyone. I've often said that Linda Ronstadt can cover most artist music better than the original artist. Hank seniors one of those people I can't say that's true. It's closed when you compare I'm saying the same songs she's so damn good but there's so heartbreak and pathos in his music this was a man that had suffered heartbreak, look at his last marriage. Watch the last movie with Tom Hiddleston. The congenital back problems he had and the way they were dealt with and that time era period and then allowing him to drink along with those medications without saying this is a deadly combination period later in life when he was hunting and he fell and he aggravated things got much worst. And then look at the emotional turmoil and pain from his marriage. I'm not even taking asajj I'm just saying it was painful as hell for him, maybe it was for her to. If you watch the film a bit of ambiguity in different ways I think they both struggled and suffered but the way his wife was not life-threatening. But 1951 what is life-threatening because all the prescriptions came from quote a doctor. Today we know better. We know the doctors that can get us hooked on shit. That there are better ways like chiropractors and physical therapy if you going to use painkillers keep it down to a minimum. And there are better choices today. Anyway before I can go any further knowing what I know if you love Hank Williams and you love life watch the Hiddleston of Hank Williams life. It's probably free. I look forward to hearing what always iconic country artists have to say. And to be honest I'm more of a rock and roll blues guy period but when music is played well it overlaps genre period hell even the stones did a country song LOL and it wasn't bad. When I was in high school I didn't think of it as Southern country rock I just thought of this good music. When Skynyrd hit the saying again it was about quality of music. Yeah most of my vinyl was rock and roll but good music is good music. Good writing is good writing good artists are good artists. I stole my first album in 1971 I was 6 years old it was tapestry by Carole King my mom had gotten tired of it but I had heard her playing a couple times. We had Carole King and James Taylor and Jackson Browne at so many hardest that cross from one area to the other. At different times I guess you could say the same thing for Dylan and Springsteen. PBS did a fantastic documentary I think it was a parts on the history of American music it's. It's too deep to get into but like the old saying goes Everything is Everything. You can connect James Brown and Chuck Berry that same group of artist that made music explosion in the 50s and 60s.. my girlfriend when I was 18 in New Jersey after introducing me as soon as she took me to Carnegie Hall in New York City. My birthday present was getting to see Willie Nelson during his Starlight tour. Now I know people want to put musicians and a hole so they can identify them to a genre period but after seeing Willie I never experienced anything like that before. I'm not going to say there was no country and what he did but there was a lot more than just country or just pop or just born baby. I think a lot of young musicians put a label on themselves really early. And unlike their predecessors they didn't make their bones playing cover songs in bars. I think that's why pop music today sucks. Between Auto tone and voice modulation and Pro Tools and cut and paste by making something perfect you you lose the manatee. The imperfection is the humanity. I've seen Springsteen play 20 times and each performance was unique. Never perfect, thank God. Same thing if you look at live performances of the Eagles you can see them here on UA-cam period but one Pro Tools starting to kick in, and when Cher went nuts with Auto-Tune, somebody that really didn't need it music. Would have had hits or make money if it weren't for MTV. Not to be mean but Justice and example would Britney Spears have become a star? Lame groups and in their defense they got picked up way too early because MTV wasn't about how you sounded it was about how you look. So some of these people might have had real potential but they never got to make their bones playing bars, small performances and covering songs not just from their genre but from other genres. I had no intention of writing this much but I'm passionate about songwriting and Hank Williams was one of the best
What I find interesting about Williams? To start with his songs were and are still, head and shoulders, above any other country artist. He was a song writing genius. Would he have written more? Yes.......but I seriously doubt anything would have been as good. Several reasons for that. The obvious one is the drugs and alcohol...they were just catching up on him way too much. However what I find most interesting is the trend I see concerning most geniuses in any field. You do your best work under 30 years old. After that you start to lose it a little. Einstein did his best work before he was 30 and in music the Beatles did their best work before they were 30. It's amazing how that works. It's like something creative just shuts down in the brain
Or like some people are just born magic and they get the most important stuff done early. After that they're just playing because it's what they do. It can still be amazing, but not like that first blaze. When you see somebody young with a huge, amazing talent and ability, it's a special moment in time.
my Dad absolutely worshipped him & every New Year’s Eve (if I remember correctly 🤔) we’d have to stand up & have a minute silence for him, now my Dad is up there with him singing his heart out with the best country singer ever xx
Colter Wall, Vincent Neil Emerson, Whiskey Meyers, Orville Peck, Shinyribs, Lukas Nelson. The current generation of country music is actually excellent. You just gotta look around a bit.
I’m with Kid Kasady, there’s some good new stuff out there…… Try Sturgill Simpson, Tyler Childers and many many others that are now called “Red dirt, Texas Country, and Americana” but it’s just “ Real Country” and that’s how it should be labeled.
My uncle (my mom's brother) served in WWII in France and was in an Army barracks with a lot of Southern boys, and had never heard country music before. Well those Southerners had before long turned all those other fellas into country fans, and they would listen to the Opry together on Armed Forces Radio. After my uncle got out of the Army he turned my mom on to country as well. Hank hit the scene after WWII, but my uncle quickly became a big fan (not so easy to do because he lived in New England). My mom was a lover of all kinds of music, including rock 'n' roll and R&B, but always had a special place in her heart for country, and she loved Hank Williams' music. She turned me on to country, and when I learned to play guitar I learned on Hank Williams records and those old song folios. To this day I can still remember how to play all those old songs. How many performers can claim to have as many intergenerational fans as Hank? Not even Sinatra or The Beatles can make that claim.
He presented a very new sound not previously heard. He also posed a physical look for the dust bowl disaster and followed by Woodie Guthrie... Hank opened a new avenue for early American music not previously ever heard. Hank happened at the right time for America!
I remember when i was young my father would always sing along with hank. There are things that you never will forget. Memories will live till you expire.
That's because there was no TV, half of america was poorly educated & the next best thing to music when it came to entertainment was picking the bed bugs out of your sibling's hair lol.
@@pimslickins8321 You have to be able to have respect, understanding and appreciation for this music, or just music in general. This is the roots of country. This is Americana. You’re right about one thing, just in the wrong way. It was a different time. There was no rock and roll yet. He wrote from the heart and had a look, sound and style that inspires people to this day. Some music is not for everybody. This is country music, in its rarest, purest, most authentic form. His music was relatable to people. You either get it or not I guess. But, if you’re ever in the south talking badly about artists like Hank Williams and Johnny Cash won’t go over well with many people.
Who else is listening this incredible Genius.

I also have the actual stage performance of him doing loves sick blues and is the only known recording of him doing a full show in which he tells jokes and the works. I copied it and burned it listen to it constantly
the amazing thing was "we just want to let you all know us and the boys will be out there to sign our song books which are two bits a piece and we will glad to talk to you"
he also says "we just want to let you all know each show we juggle the songs around" so if you come back after the milking contest you wont hear the same ones"
he tells a long joke about anyway I sent a check for a thousand dollars to my ex. she replied back "thanks the mailman just cashed it"
The greatest artist and songwriter.
Love and respect to Hank Williams a true American legend. Junior not so much, what ever notice he received was in name only. He never reached the same level as his daddy.
Hank Jr is a music genius in his own right!
Thanks for posting this. 👍
Tom Hiddleston was perfect as him in "I saw the Light"
That’s why it has an approval rating of 12% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Horrible movie with a horrible soundtrack
You need to do a megamix of per inquiry/record compilation spots from your archives (including some from TNN)!
Neal Mccormick and his brother Earl was a good friend of our family in Defuniak Springs and Pensacola Florida. The last time I saw Neal was at the Carousel bar here in Pensacola
In the early 1990's.
Story of. My. Life. I'm. Just like him. Hank knew me well
Not a country music fan on the regular but Hank Williams is transcendent.
I never heard of Hank Williams until I saw the picture, "Last Picture Show"
Why don't you treat me like you use to do?
Why do you treat me like a worn out shoe,
My hair's still curly and my eyes are blue,
Why don't you treat me like you use to do?
I love music
Love Hank Williams!!!

One of the earliest catalysts for heavy metal/punk, and Hank III is living proof
17:00 Fred Rose *WAS NOT THE ONLY* founder of Acuff/Rose Publishing Company, Roy Acuff was *EQUAL FOUNDER AND PARTNER* in that music publishing company.
I saw this documentary in '95 with my dad who passed away 2 years later.
Loved all the friends and fellow musician comments . Why Kyle Cantrel another self serving want to be. Know different the Fred Rose. Does things to hurt music but make a name for themselves.. Now he's working at trying to commercialize bluegrass music, To me the only real and down to earth music left. Country might still be country without people like him. This whole world would be a better place with people like Hank who did things cause they loved it not because they feel the need to fill there pockets. 'If ya cant play it you don't really feel it, Such a great industry for those who don't get it but want the money that's there to get. Sports Movies all about the people thst want the fame and fortune and manipulate the market to get it. Don't care who dies for what as long their accounts get bigger..
So true !

You’re kidding right ? The “I Saw the Light “ movie supposedly about Hank is one of the worst movies ever made .
Nashville is rough on the living but speaks well of the dead.
Hank wuz smooth and i saw da light be dope and bocephus sang it betta but he had betta equipment this man died 29 young man
Cowboy hat, boots, camp.out, roasted Weiners roast marshmallows. Big pot of jambalaya. Bottles of ice cold RC. Fun on the biyou

🎉🎉🎉
The best country singer ever born to this day..nobody can match him.
Nope
Strong
my Dad absolutely worshipped him & every New Year’s Eve (if I remember correctly 🤔) we’d have to stand up & have a minute silence for him, now my Dad is up there with him singing his heart out with the best country singer ever xx
George Jones is still up there too
Li'l Nas X made quite a stir recently with "Old Town Road" - is rap country the future? How do purists view rap country? Rap in general?
I love listening to Hank Williams, this is real country music. Country music has lost its way
Try Codeine Dream by Colter Wall.
Bud Driver relative, maybe.?
Colter Wall, Vincent Neil Emerson, Whiskey Meyers, Orville Peck, Shinyribs, Lukas Nelson. The current generation of country music is actually excellent. You just gotta look around a bit.
I’m with Kid Kasady, there’s some good new stuff out there…… Try Sturgill Simpson, Tyler Childers and many many others that are now called “Red dirt, Texas Country, and Americana” but it’s just “ Real Country” and that’s how it should be labeled.
I agree
As, a kid, I remember listening to Hank Williams on the radio. I’m now 80 and he’s still my favorite singer
Me too.

Hank Williams Sr , Was A Legend, In His Own Times. And Still A Legend Today , In 2022 And Beyond. RIP Aka The Hillbilly Shakespeare.
He presented a very new sound not previously heard. He also posed a physical look for the dust bowl disaster and followed by Woodie Guthrie... Hank opened a new avenue for early American music not previously ever heard. Hank happened at the right time for America!
The one and only Hank Williams, the man , his songs and his guitar, thank you for sharing the documentary.
Born in ‘48, I grew up listening to Hank, thanks to my daddy. He remains #1 and is family to me. Unmatched.
I remember when i was young my father would always sing along with hank. There are things that you never will forget. Memories will live till you expire.
So true. How many times have you heard a song and you have a memory from the past?
Same here!
I think it was said by one of the interviewed. Hank got you where you lived. That is rarest talent of any artist.
He was the greatest country and gospel singer of all time in my book
Yep. The Possum sang to my heart but I heard Hank in my soul.
I lost my father in 1961. One of the things I remember was my Dad playing a guitar after supper and singing Hank Williams songs.
40 top ten hits in a recording career that lasted 6 years.......40.........
I remember the day the word came out that Hank had passed, I was 12 at the time. He will always be the King as far as I am concerned.
@@MichaelKingVids I'm from Mississippi and very old school.
No one has done that since with so many fans
My Mother sure loved Hank. She used to talk about how he sang from his heart.
Aside from how great his songs are, there’s something about the sound of his records that I just love.
