This is a wonderful presentation. One thing that really stood out - is she writing everything backwards the whole time? Even more impressive than just presenting this info in such an easy to understand way is doing it while writing the whole thing backwards.

Ha! No, she actually wrote on glass and we reversed the image in post-production.

@@IBMTechnology But how does her writing position match up perfectly`? i dont get it

    • @IBMTechnology

The whole image is reversed, so what looks like her left hand is really her right, and what appears to be written forwards, is really backwards in the camera.

Absolute amazing.. Elementary presentation of an incredibly complex problem. I would humbly request IBM technology to make more videos on AI specifically. On the technology as well as the applications. Wonderful job..👍

It is really awesome! One question: is this AI-enhanced research widely adopted from industries and academia, or is it a proposed concept? If any institute use this technique or developing this technique, could you share more infos (Like any article from IBM lab that is developing this technique?)

It's already used, but it's usually not communicated. People tend not to trust an AI-invented new drug/material. Companies and researchers do it, they just don't say it for better acceptation of their discoveries

AI has the potential to play a role in addressing the challenges posed by climate change. There are several ways in which AI technologies can help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate the impacts of climate change, including:
Developing renewable energy technologies: AI can be used to optimize the design and operation of renewable energy systems, such as solar panels and wind turbines. This can help to increase the efficiency and reliability of renewable energy sources, making them more viable alternatives to fossil fuels.
Improving energy efficiency: AI can be used to monitor and control the use of energy in buildings, vehicles, and other systems. This can help to reduce the amount of energy that is wasted, leading to lower greenhouse gas emissions and cost savings.
Enhancing climate modeling and prediction: AI can be used to improve the accuracy and precision of climate models, enabling more accurate predictions of future climate conditions. This can help policymakers and other stakeholders to make informed decisions about how to adapt to and mitigate the impacts of climate change.
Overall, AI has the potential to make a significant contribution to the efforts to combat climate change and protect the environment. By leveraging its capabilities in areas such as renewable energy, energy efficiency, and climate modeling, AI can help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate the impacts of climate change.

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
00:26 🌍 The video focuses on how AI can help solve climate change, specifically through the development of new materials. This is termed as the "chemistry edition."
00:56 🌡️ Climate change is leading to a 1.5°C increase in global temperature by 2040, causing more extreme weather events like hurricanes and floods.
01:56 🧪 The core issue of climate change is a chemistry problem, specifically the rise in greenhouse gases. The focus is on mitigation through new materials and chemistries.
02:25 🌿 Low carbon technologies include green chemistry, energy-efficient designs, energy storage like batteries, and carbon capture, utilization, and storage technologies.
02:58 🧽 Carbon capture technologies act like sponges to separate CO2 and either convert it into useful products or store it underground.
03:28 ⚖️ Challenges in current technologies include performance, toxicity, stability, and cost. These can be addressed by designing new materials and processes.
05:05 🧬 The complexity of experiments needed to develop new materials is overwhelming, making AI a crucial tool for speeding up the process.
06:18 📚 AI can assist in hypothesis generation by ingesting and linking thousands of scientific articles, thus expanding the scope of materials considered for solutions.
08:02 🎯 Generative modeling and machine learning can predict new materials and chemistries that meet specific performance requirements.
