I don't know what is this feeling I have, but I always come back to listen to Dylan. Once you get to know him, music will never the same.
BD in his 'coolest' era/ days--in alot of ways and excellent Dylan song choice, vocal & playing. LOVE & Miss Tommy to this DAY..Incredible dedicated Musician as well as a Lovely & Kind beautiful Soulsv (Dylan & Petty BOTH)
One of the absolute best shows ever played by Dylan & Petty... incredible
Bobby Z is King of rhyme and the late Tom Petty leads reggae to the "far side of the moon ". An outstanding performance of the musical legends whom we shall always cherish. Bob earns his Nobel prize in spades here. Hopefully this video clip will always remind us of what every musician should strive for in a lifetime. Sometimes the truth is hard to swallow, but good things always come to the purest of heart and mind. Supernatural miracles can happen when you least expect them. These beautiful back up singers are definitely present by divine appointment. That day the planets must have been in perfect heavenly alignment.☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
The acoustic set is GREAT. Notice how he finds a whole new melody at the end of each line of One Too Many Mornings, and how that lifts the performance. This is possibly the most influential lesson he's given to musicians, how walking a tightrope in performance can take a song to a whole new place.
I was just thinking that this morn watching Springsteen perform 2 of his early songs in 1975. So he didn't have a huge repetoire then. But, he completely rearranged these 2 songs and they are the better versions. I thought to myself, "I know he was influenced by Bob, but he also learned a valuable lesson from him".
That version of hard rain! Holy shit. He's on fire. Like a lightning storm over a volcano. Genius and Passion.
One of the best concerts I ever attended.
Me too... 👍😎🤠
My first Dead show. Drove ten hours down I-90 from Boston in a beat up 1978 Subaru wagon. What a day!
I didn't go to the one in NY. But I did go to the one on July 29th 1986 at the Civic auditorium in Portland Or. It was so awesome..that night was rockn', everyone had there lighters out and holding them up lighting up the stadium... RIP Tom Petty rest in peace.
I was at this show. The Grateful dead played too.
Fire on the mountain ☺ great show
wow what a treat. incredible line up.
I was there too.... to see Tom Petty
me too,
Bob that is- great band that day.
went to the Madison Square Garden in 1986 to see Tom Petty, I was 18 and did not know much about Dylan, I got the tickets to see Petty, then the lights went down and Dylan came out and I was in a trance like state bec he emanated so much "stage presence" that night in NYC. After that there was no looking back I have since seen Dylan probably 40 or 50x since 1986 including this past year! thanks for the video feed!
Indeed, there is something special to Dylan in this performance, it's like he's in total control, delivering with so much power and confidence, his facial expressions...it is indeed one of my favourite videos...lucky you for being there!
Hard to handle VHS lol👌💙🏴🏴🏴
Bill, welcome to the "over 50" club. First saw Dylan in 81' in NJ, then followed the 86' tour from Ohio to NY. Over a hundred + shows later and hopefully many more to follow! Most memorable shows were the Supper Club shows (I got table right in front of the stage) and the Roseland show when Neil and Bruce showed up for the encores and of course the 30th anniversary show at the Garden. Hope Bob gets back on the road.
I remember being up close to the stage then realizing I had to pee LOL. That began an epic odyssey to the rest room. found old friends from elementary school. Watched EMTs rushing to someone that appeared to OD. Made new friends. amazing day in a life. I remember that I came down at the end of the show and was so pissed that there were no fire works Haha. I'm actually ashamed to admit that, it WAS the 4th of July. The day was perfect.
parking lot fireworks hitched 10 miles for a pack of smoke after show and made it back somewhat LOL thanks for the memories
This was my first concert at 14 with my father. I was into the Dead (who also played this show) and my Dad was a Dylan fan. We both enjoyed Petty the most that day. I appreciate being able to see this. Thanks for posting.
As much as i loved and still love Bob Dylan, for me the Tom Petty set was by far the highlight. The man could work a crowd.
I ran a 10k in Dunkirk before the show. Dylan, Dead, and TP are my 3 favs to this day. TP stole the show, he was Awesome!!!!!
I was here too. Now we've lost Tom, Jerry, and Brent. So sad.
It was said only the Good die Young that was 35 years ago a lot of those people are dead now that's a generation ago
fabuleux live et vous aussi keith merci
Attended 4 shows Dylan/Petty tour. Great shows!
WAaaaayyyyyy BEYOND EXCELLENT! Thank you sooooooooooooooo Very Much For sharing this video classic concert!! EXCELLENT!!!!

Dylan forever!
YOU ARE THE BEST TOM WE ALL MISS YOU
Nice, Keith! I saw Bob for the first time 20 days after this show! Great memories!
I feel sure I saw Dylan and Petty at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley around the same time but its hard to imagine now that they would've played such a small place. I saw tons of great shows at the Greek that I can't remember.
You saw it. I did too
I love how he plays his harp. G-d inspires each and every one of his breaths.
I saw them open for The Grateful Dead 2 days later @ RFK in DC on 7/6/86.. It was even hotter (105* on the field) than the '73 Dead show I saw there when the Allman Brothers closed that show.. Great concert btw.. It's like having a time machine..
I was at the RFK show in DC too. It was very HOT out ( the temperature ). That was the show that Jerry Garcia slipped into a diabetic coma afterwards and nearly died. You could see he was really struggling in the 100 plus degree heat!
Mike Campbell on the B-bender !!
Present. Flew up to Buffalo from Nj with a few friends. Dylan w/Tom Petty & Heartbreakers along with The Grateful Dead. Great times with great friends making great memories...
Peoples express no doubt 😊
YOU BOB HONWYAND HEARTBRAKES ARE THE BEST WE ALL MISS TOM
The opening track is a Weldon Rogers track from 1957. I thought maybe Bob had written this cause it's kind of that rockabilly and bluegrass feel he can sometimes get into, similar to that song "Walk Out In The Rain". I like this song - it's a good song to open a concert with. So Long, Good Luck and Goodbye
The mix is exceptional! Grab your best headphones!
Sounds good though there is a deformation of the tape or something at regular intervals that is annoying
YEAH BOB HONEY YOU THE BAND AND SINGING LADYES ARE THE BEST WE ALL MISS TOM I AM JUST SMOKING AND LISTENING TO YOU WITH MY HEADPHONES SO A DOG CAN SLEEP
Very great and fine concert, specially Bob's version of Hard Rain, so much better than with electric violins in front of Pope Jan Pavel dwa in the 90ies ... Thank you so much for sharing!
i was at this show and actually had a photo pass. the dead opened which i felt was strange. after they finished thousands of people left the stadium. it was a weird weather day as earlier had been overcast and dennis mcnally of the dead saw i had no cover for my camera and went and got me a towel. he told me if i saw dylan to hide the camera back under the towel. very nice of him. great show and turned out to be a hot day as well.
Wish I could've been there. Watched it on TV.
YEAH HEARTBREAKERS AND TOM AND BOB ANS SINGING GIRLA YOU ARE THE BEST WE ALL MISS TOM I AM JUST SMOKING AND LISTENING TO YOU NOW I AM GOING TO PAINT
Killer set by TP & the Heartbreakers!
Right On
The hottest ticket of the year. Lucky for you folks who got to see one of the shows.
Really on fire here.....76 was a good year live too I think.
Those singers...mighty ...man....
and then...the Heartbreakers.....with RIP Tom Petty....
I like heartbreakers with Dylan better than the Dead backing even...amazing ....the Australia show was amazing-on-fire
by looking here on you tube.
I hear you brother, really on fire and I love the backing singers too (I'm sure Bob loved them too quite often:)
YEAH HEARTBREAKERS AND TOM WE ALL MISS YOU AND YOU BOB HONEY ARE THE ONE I LOVE YOU BOYS AND SINGERS ARE THE BEST I AM JUSTSMOKING AND LISTENING TO YOU
one of the best concerts i can't remember. I was somewhere down there..Some are saying this was Farm Aid. It was not..
Farm Aid concert was happening as this concert was...The Farm Aid crowd watched a few Grateful Dead songs from this concert on their screen. Phil Lesh talked to the Farm Aid audience right before they saw those songs and Bobby Weir said something too as they went into The Wheel..
This concert wasn't the Farm Aid 2 but three songs (Rainy Day Women ,Seeing the Real You at Last and Across the Bordeline) were broadcast live by satellite for Farm Aid 2 by VH-1 and on various radio stations .
My favorite
YEAH TOM YOU ARE THE BEST WEALL MISS YOU
honestly never thought i would see this. i love u tube.

:)
YOU HEARTBRRERS AND TOM ARE THE BEST WE ALL MISS TOM
dylan n petty in their prime
the grateful dead opened
I wanted so bad to see this show based on the Farm Aid set. But I was too broke to spend the night back then. Glad I have the chance here and on Hard to Handle cd and dvd so many years later.
YEAH TOM
You left out Grateful Dead and 10.000 maniacs who also played that day. Great show. 100,000 fans and the Buffalo Newspaper read, “Sheriff Praises Grateful Dead Fans.” the next day.
Man,we had s time😊🔥🚬🍄🌈
THIS IS LESSON I MUST LEARN BOB HONEY
I was there! Great show with Grateful Dead!
Dylan sounds better here than in the official DVD 'Hard to Handle' , the sound is more raw , more powerful ... unfortunately satellite tv emision don't recorded the last 6 songs : I & I , Like a Rolling Stone , In the Garden and the encore with Blowin' in the Wind , Uranium Rock (Warren Smith) and of course Knockin' on Heaven's Door , the wonderful version with Dylan & TPwH always ending their concerts of the True Confessions Tour .
This was not Farm Aid...this was the Dylan/Petty and heartbreakers tour that happened after jamming at farm aid... this tour was partly with the Grateful Dead..there was a whole Dead show followed by a Petty and the Heartbreakers set then this long Dylan set..no break between Petty and Dylan..he just strolled out and started playing after Amerucan girl or one of Pettys hits back then to end his set..they switched back and forth who played first on this tour..this was my sixth Dead show and first Dylan show the summer i turned 20.. great to see this show up on you tube! Bringing back some member berries for sure🎸
They simulcast several songs from the Dead and Dylan and Petty to the Farm Aid concert crowd that was happening that day also so it was part of Farm Aid. Find Tom Petty and the Hearbreakers performance of Even The Losers from this show and you’ll hear TP talking about the farms and farmers.
YEAH TOM WE ALL MISS YOU
yeah boys you are the legends
Saw Dylan at Kleinhans in Buffalo '65 then 5 times in Calif. then '11 in Hong Kong when I wrote a review of that concert. Kid has a future if he can just hang in there :)
This is very cool.
I am loving the memories of so many good times with Bob ,Tom and the Heartbreakers
But the video and music don't line up and the music gos slow at times ,But even with that This Is A True Treasure 👌 Ty
I was there with my 2 Bro's and my best friend. What an awesome day. We drove from Toronto and spent most of the Grateful Dead part drinking beer, smoking weed, out front of the stadium because we were told we could bring beer in but when we got to security they said No!! Lol! Four of us had a gallon of bear each. The cop said we could dump it or sit in a grassy area over yonder and drink it. So we did that. Then Americans with the same problem started giving us their jugs for a Canadian dollar. We got pretty drunk but it was American beer and it was hot as hell out, so we were still functional. Driving home with fireworks going off all around. I'm sure we were all at some level of heatstroke. The Border Guard got bitchy because we all bought one T shirt each and she said we weren't allowed but let us go. I mean we could have lied but we're Canadian. Didn't think a T shirt was a big deal. Anyway it was great. My first Dylan concert, seen him 20 times since.
Mike Campbell is boss level on the electric guitar !
HEART BROKERS YOU ARE THE BEST BAND
Classic.....
Bob killed the cover versions on across the border line and lonesome town but it's helltime( band of the hand) was his best version of that great lost song
I WILL ALWAYS BE EMOTIONALLY YOUR BOB HONEY
I WILL ALWAYS BE EMOTIONALLY YOURBOB HONEY
I watch a video like this.....,I’m ruined for the day.....😰😰😰😰😰😰😰
Il a l'air de prendre plaisir avec ses "Raelets"...
i was there. grateful dead opened, half the people left after the dead finished. had a photo pass but very difficult to shoot the show. it was raining earlier so dennis mcanally of the dead road crew gave me a towel to keep my camera dry, but warned me not to shoot any dylan if he walked by the backstage area. so i didn't .
yeah heart brekers and BOB HONEY YOU ARE THE BEST WE ALL MISS TOM IT IS HALF PAST SIX I HAVE FIRE IN MY STOWE OUTSIDE IS SNOW FREEZING DOG WENT OUT AND CAT IS RUNNING ARMOKING AND LISTENING TO YOU
I was here with friends from college. We were riding in a VW Microbus and broke down. We missed the Dead who played first

THIS IS A LESSON I MUST LEARN BOB HONEY
i see your comments on all the bob videos haha. my friends and i now call him Bob Honey sometimes because of you :) just saying hello!
This was actually my first Grateful Dead show!!
This must have been at least a 100th Generation video{passed around for many years before going on youtube}If you see on the first 60 seconds the person wanted to record this in stereo on A and B but did not work out with all the copys that been made.I have the Same Video 1st generation with REAL stereo audio that I got from a friend that was in the Uplink moble truck and the tape was in my hands aday after the show...……….....Great show only if you have the read deal audio.
Only Dylan at his all-time artistic low could make Tom Petty sound like Pavarotti.
I AM JUST WARMING UP MY FEET UNDER 3 BLANKETS AND SMOKING
SOME DAY MABY WHO KNOWS BABY
I think I saw a "B" bender .......
I was there, with my brother and another buddy. We took a bus from Hamilton, Ont., smoked a ton of hash joints & were absolutely baked by concert. Remembering the little hippy chicks outside venue selling acid, opium & grass. Petty/Heartbreakers stole show, Dylan was shit. Mumbling, disinterested. I still want 30% of my ticket price back due to his terrible performance. The Dead were fascinating, their fans made the place come alive. A legendary concert...
YEAH HEARTBREKERS
I AM WAITING FOR DAYLIGHT TO BRING SOME MORE WATER IN BOB HONEY
Is there any major concert Keith didn’t go to and video?
