this is so help full thanks so much and I know how improvising could be so helpful because most of my films I improvised but after watching this I'm going to try to write a script more of my film so anyways thanks.
Sweet tutorial, Mr. Fancy Pants! Haha just the other day I finished a Brickfilm that I spent a month working on. I did some voice acting for that film, my 1st voice acting experience, and I must say it is harder than I thought. It still turned out pretty decent, I think. Anyway, thanks for uploading this tutorial. Now I know where I can improve so my future films are better. Keep up the good work! Big fan here!
I'm curious: what's the logic in taking a bunch of frames when no movement is occurring? Couldn't you just take one frame and extend it's duration to achieve the same effect?
Sunspace Studio Productions I see your point sir. I suggest a new strategy R2, let the wookie win. Oh, wrong quote... I know what you mean but then it's not 15 fps.
Awesome video! This was very helpful! When I used to add dialogue to my videos I multiplied my frames per second by how long the dialogue was but now that you showed me other tips that I didn't know, I'm looking forward to using these tips when I get a camera capture software.
Nice tutorial as always I enjoy making animations but I've taken time off to test stuff and make my animations run smoother but as always thanks for the tutorials. Finally I saved up for DF, AE, Svegas, and Photoshop cost me a lot but is a investment I'm willing to take thanks as always.
When I first started brickfilming I used to add the voice in later so I had to kind of guess and try to fit my voice in while my lego guy was moving around and I also would forget what I would say and would not use scrips because I would have to pay attention to both the script and the animation but after watching your tutorial I started recording my voice first and have all the time in the world to read the script and now all I have to do is fit the animation into it. Thanks a lot for your help Fancy Pants😎👍
Can u make a tutorial about how u make them move smoothly and when there arms move when the go down they look loose and I am interested to know how u make this
Hey Jordan, thanks a lot for this video! It's very useful and I appreciate it because I just recently started to animate. If you're looking into making an other tutorial, I'd like to see how to make the video editing of a stop motion. I think you're using Premiere and I'm using it too. Also, It always make me smile when I see a new upload from you :)
How do you move the mini figures arms and body? When I move them the character slightly moves and it's enough to notice. It bothers me because all animators on UA-cam don't seem to have this problem. Do you just line the body back up with the last frame or does your mini figure body not move when you adjust its arms? (I'm thinking maybe my Legos are older and have stiffer arms so the body adjusts) Also what dos did you record for the examples in this film?
I find that it's helpful to hold down the minifigures legs with one hand while you're moving the arms with the other. Other wise, the minifigure bobbles around like you described. But it does take practice to get good at it :)
This tutorial is like exactly what I needed, great timing and thanks a lot! Do you think dialogues make brickfilms more interesting in general? maybe that's my issue..
Hi I really need to know if you could give me your opinion on a camera I want to buy... and also what size lens do you recommend for animation? BTW the camera I plan on buying is a cannon 1200d 18mp, something like that... And also thx for the tutorial! really helped me and gave me some ideas... also wow much would one of these programs cost?
This was SOOOO helpful! You have no idea how much this video has encouraged me to try new things out. I do have one question, when I search iStopmotion, all I get is a free app from the windows store that is purple and has the film logo on it. Is that what you have? It would be EXTREMELY Helpful to me if you could give me a link. Thanks man! I aspire to be as funny, creative, and talented as you are one day!!! :D
iStopmotion is only for Mac so I'm guessing the one that you found on the windows store is not the same thing. But you could try it out and see if it works!
Ok, tbh, I honestly didn't think you'd reply back. I mean, you're THE Fancy Pants. I hold so much respect for you in the stop motion/creativity realm! And yes, you're correct, it's only for mac xD I didn't realized that xD I see that there are 3 versions of it... which do you have? Also, I'm sorry I'm asking all of these questions, but where do you get the sound effect for your walking? Thanks! :D
Fancy pants, I am in a pickle I am currently working on a stopmotion but being a beginner I need the onion tool thing and more to help me do a stopmotion. Also I needs camera connected to my laptop so I can take pictures without having to touch my camera as it will shake. Now the software app I have downloaded is animator something however you need a webcam. So I am planning on buying a $30 webcam on Amazon. Should I do this or is there a way around the problem as I am not paying $300 for dragonframe
I'd recommend buying a $30 webcam. They're really nice and actually give you more manual control than many consumer cameras that aren't DSLRs. It's especially nice if you can get one with manual focus.
+GunganHunter506 Yeah, webcam is probably you're best bet. I wouldn't invest in dragon frame unless you're really serious about stop motion or you just have extra cash you don't know what to do with :)
+DTC Tipsy 1. You didn't state that you weren't looking to spend money in your comment, so I saw no reason to not suggest Dragonframe. 2. Helium Frog is free.
Hey fancy pants I started watching your channel back in 2008 all the way to now! :) I love ur channel and all your vids! I would really like if you could reply to this comment:)
+Austin Freeman It really depends. Sometimes I can get a short 1 min video done with 10-15 hours of work, other times a video of the same length could take 50 hours of work. But either way, stop motion is not a quick process :)
He meant that if your script is great but you have bad acting the script won't matter...not that it doesn't matter at all. Likewise if you have great acting but a bad script it won't help you that much. Savvy?
Thumbs up if this was helpful! Also, feel free to ask questions if you have them!
It was very helpful thx you
bigvirgotube lol, it's rough man, I know.
hey Jordan! I just want to say you are an amazing youtuber! I love your videos!
Thanks!
=)
I would highly appreciate a "dueling" tutorial, covering things like how you did the "The Force Unleashed" stopmotion. Thanks!
I just noticed that Fancy Pants has 100k... That's not enough! He deserves more!
Dusty Crophopper 97
But it's not enough, not for Fancy Pants!
Dusty Crophopper 97
Fine, good enough.
Ugh no your the magician, you had one job!
Watching on a Wednesday. Thank you for having tutorials!
this is so help full thanks so much and I know how improvising could be so helpful because most of my films I improvised but after watching this I'm going to try to write a script more of my film so anyways thanks.
This helped so much you have no idea!! I really like your videos and tutorials. Please do a tutorial on moving camera angles! Thanks
"Hey! I don't have iStopMotion, what am I supposed to do?" I love how he does Francis's voice for that XD
This was very helpful, I already had the movement part down but the first half and voice acting part, was very helpful

Great video as always! Can you make a tutorial how to animate de mouth?
+StopMotion Minifigures Mouth animation isn't something I really know how to do. I think there might be some tutorials out there though.
A lot XD
awesome!
Very fancy pants
great
Thanks man!
Camera settings tutorial?
When is the clone training center going to come!? Pls put it out now
Actually, you don't need to take extra frames because you can change each particular frame's length in editing program.
How do you move the mini figures arms and body? When I move them the character slightly moves and it's enough to notice. It bothers me because all animators on UA-cam don't seem to have this problem. +Fancy Pants ok thanks, I'll try
To work on that and see if it makes a different. Thanks
Bryant White Been working on that too thanks :)
awesome thank you!
Awesome
How do you use photoshop to get the parts of pictures you want onto istopmotion?
did you realize how every sentence you say, you go from highpitch voice to low pitch
Never noticed it but you sound so much like Matt from Daredevil
I like your voice Fancy :)
This tutorial is like exactly what I needed, great timing and thanks a lot! Do you think dialogues make brickfilms more interesting in general? maybe that's my issue..
Would you possibly know a program similar to istopmotion for windows?
Hey Fancy Pants, where do you get all of your sound effects? --DragonMan
thanks this helped :)
do a how to make mini figure jump tutorial
Firstly, lovely tutorial. Secondly, what was the music used during the first part?
Scarlet Fire Sting from the UA-cam music library.
Fancy Pants Thank you kindly Sir.

great tutorial! I needed to learn how to do this for a while! Thanks! What do you use to record your voice?
Usually just a USB mic. Right now I use a sound booth that they have at my school :)
Check out the troops are ready
I am making a Lego Star Wars stop motion but cause I am a loner so all the minifigure's are voiced by me so I am gonna have fun writing the credits
9:55 "Alright guys that's pretty much sh*t"

He said "alright guys that's pretty much it" but just sounded like that other thing.
Lol
Whatever happened to Fancy Pants? It's been over 2 years
You have a nice voice:)

Yas Studio It's not that good though.
Will you make tips and tricks for Lego movie creator because I can't make normal animations with cameras I can only use my device
Fancy pants, I am in a pickle I am currently working on a stopmotion but being a beginner I need the onion tool thing and more to help me do a stopmotion. +DTC Tipsy

Thanks for supporting the channel!
Hey I won't to do a stop motion haw long does it take.
+Austin Freeman It really depends. Sometimes I can get a short 1 min video done with 10-15 hours of work, other times a video of the same length could take 50 hours of work. But either way, stop motion is not a quick process :)
11th like :D
8:30 I died
No offense but u said it doesn't matter how good your script is but the acting is what really matters that didn't work out for the green lantern movie
He meant that if your script is great but you have bad acting the script won't matter...not that it doesn't matter at all. Likewise if you have great acting but a bad script it won't help you that much. Savvy?
Do you think it is necessary for a brick film to have dialog?
+Ethanj32 It depends on the brickfilm. I've seen some brickfilms that work great without dialogue. In some ways it's a stylistic choice.
+Fancy Pants cool, also I was wondering how you add voice effects like Darth Vader, Kyle Ren, storm troopers, etc.
I do most of my vocal effects in Audacity.
i know your name... JORDAN JOHNSON
How many fps do you normally use?
+EYEconic Films 15 fps
+EYEconic Films 15 fps
Fancy Pants Thanks. I use the same but your animations always seem smoother :(
EYEconic Films he probably does less things in that one sec:)
do you use photoshop?
Is the istopmation compatible with an apple lap top??
+Benjamin S Yep!
