I understood from your beginning comment that you previously looked at the lyrics before reacting. I would suggest that for at least the Tales of Jenny and Screetch (and Violet) that you watch without reading the lyrics first. Also for Money Game 3. These are stories and knowing the ending kind of wrecks the experience.
I endorse the comments below, re pre-reading. Ren is different. There are so many surprises waiting if you deep dive down the Ren rabbit hole. I am an older person similar to yourself and have listened to many artists over the years. I have to say Ren would be the most exciting, and fresh artist I have ever had the pleasure in following. He is also the most humble and honest artist who gives back. Since releasing Hi Ren he has reached over 1 million subscribers in less than a year and through the support of this reaction community and his small crew of friends has recently achieved a No 1 album on the UK charts. Given that he is independent, and still receiving treatment for his ill health, this is nothing short of amazing. Not to mention that much of his work is created live (as is Hi Ren) and are mostly one takes. To get a measure of this humble special human being I would suggest watching his "One Million Subscribers - Defining Success" video, and also the Ren interview on the Zach Sang Show. Both are amazing and define this humble young man who has gone through so much. Kia kaha from NZ
I know with Ren, now, that I can understand his lyrics without pre-reading. As for other artists that I'm checking out for the first time, I still prefer to read in advance. Thanks for watching and commenting.

You might have suggested at least one or two of his songs.😉😉😉Excellent suggestions my friend. I'm so pleased you mentioned Trick The Fox, they have a few excellent songs.😊😊
Love your prog analysis and knowledge! I am a lifelong Peter Gabriel fan, as I know you are also. Ive seen Peter Gabriel 10 times live which is a lot because he was so meticulous in creating his music. Albums only came out about every 6 years. I have a son whose middle name is Gabriel. The only other artist who has ever sparked my interest like Gabriel has been Ren. His attention to detail, his creativity, his artistic inclinations in the face of defying norms is commendable by itself. All this while battling a life threatening disease makes him a unique artist in the anals of music!! You need to investigate more Ren. He never disappoints!! I’m not a fan of rap, it when an artists re-defines a genre like rap it’s worth paying attention. He doesn’t just rap. He sings like Sting (back on 74, message in a bottle) story tells like none other ( tale of Jenny and Screech). Discusses politics, money (money game trilogy), religion, God, and other taboo topics like it’s his destiny to philosophize about. His artistic prowess is stunning! Thank you Gabriel, welcome Ren!!
I hear you. The sound of the guitar that you're hearing that seems off is done on purpose by Ren as part of the piece. (btw, it has 27 million views not 7 😄) I couldn't tell what background you read. What you said is true, however because Ren had Lyme disease, and his pain and suffering as a result of it not being diagnosed and misdiagnosed for many years applies to the creation of this piece. Just in case what you read didn't include that. Ren talks about this in his Behind the Scenes, Hi Ren that's on his page as well as on the video 1 million subscribers defying success. He's a instrumentalist, director, producer, composer etc. who does almost every single genre you can think of.
I read that he heard voices (auditory hallucinations) in his youth. That makes a lot of sense for this piece. Thanks for the background and for commenting.
Nice review. Glad you found Ren. Do yourself a favor listen to the trilogy piece the tale of Jenny and screech. Also chalk out lines. And there’s a video up of his former band called the big push where he covered a Bob Marley song that is Phenomenal. Enjoy your retirement!!!
Yes, Ren has a very dark sense of humour, and I’m glad you picked up on that. My take on this is that it’s his internal dialogue, which I believe tends to be “louder” in highly creative people. Mine is extremely loud and disruptive, and it was reassuring to watch “Hi Ren” for the first time, and realise that other people go through this - it’s not the type of subject you can really raise with other people in case they start looking at you sideways. 😊
Great reaction. Please don’t read Ren’s lyrics before hand. His songs are so amazing, beautiful, clever and sad and you will catch his accent quickly. Welcome to the wonderful world of Ren❤
ren is self-educated in many instruments, especially the guitar. thank you for taking our request. your reaction and comments guide me from start to finish. i'm subscribed! however, it's hidden on the channel..
You understand this is the Coke vs. Pepsi argument, right? If I don't read the lyrics in advance, people will say "you should read the lyrics first." If I do a live version of s song, people will say "you should hit the studio version." If I do the studio version, people will say "you should hit the live version." My wish is to read the lyrics in advance AND have you stay subscribed. Is that possible?
Hi-Ren is the foundation introduction to independent Welsh artist Ren and his many talents. There is a sequencing to diving into the Ren-iverse, of course "Hi-Ren", then "Sic Boi", "Tales of Jenny and Screech" (The Full Version), "Money Game" (Part 1-3). From there it's a very long list of his music which spans multiple genres, his own genre which he has referred to as "Bardcore", Reggae, Rock, Rap, Pop, Blues, Beatbox, etc. Ren produces most all of his tracks and beats, songwriter, self taught to play the guitar, piano, cello, drums, bass, etc. Directs most of his music videos and of course his performance and acting skills. He was in a Busking Band "The Big Push" which has some amazing covers and mashups, along with many collaborations with other talented artists such as Chinchilla, Sam Thompkins, Eden Nash, Orlean and many others. To say you have only scratched the surface the Ren Rabbit Hole is an understatement. As others have mentioned, Ren spent years suffering, relegated to his bed for up to 23 hours a day for several years. Due to mis-diagnosis, told he was suffering from Chronic Fatigue, Bi-Polar, Traumatic Stress Syndrome. Finally he was correctly diagnosed with Lyme Disease and was finally able to get proper treatment and rejoin Life as it were. Ren is currently in Canada getting treatments to mitigate the Lyme Disease and undo the long term damage all the improper medications had done to him. Welcome to the World Of Ren and enjoy the ride down the rabbit hole.
Actually, 27 million views in little over a year! Ren us a multi instrumentalist and self taught on all of them. He us strogly adhd and has several autoimmune diseases due to the ling term Lyme disease. He did say he enjoyed pokung a littke fun at himself in this song, but it is an accurate depiction of the struggle many people go through on a daily basis. Ren has chosen to be a vouce for those made voiceless due to chronic physical and mental illness. He still is allergic to all but 7 foods and is always in pain. I don’t find the song funny. I fibd it wise and brave. Ren us able to connect with many people who have felt alone and isolated. He's given companionship and hope to many . If you choose to continue,Ren's guitar work and acting skills are on display in the Tales of Jenny and Screech(full) . The 13 min video includes the trilogy in the correct order.
Ren went years misdiagnosed with depression bi polar chronic fatigue syndrome he had recording deal with Sony in 2010 why working on his album he got Sick and couldn't finish it so they parted ways he move back to Wales he would become bedridden for up 23 hours a day he had chronic pain all over his body he was running a fever he was under weight this went on for years the meds they had him on caused him to have psychosis he got PTSD too but not from meds it would take years before he would get right diagnosis he has Lyme disease he has had 2 stem cell transplants done he went so long misdiagnosed that he has Brain damage Organ damage Joint damage they told him his mind was making him sick Ren in Canda right now getting treatment he has to have IV 5 days a week they put this thing on his head that help open path ways in his brain he take hand full meds 2 times a day he also has ADHD too Ren can only eat like 2 kinds of beef and few Vegetables because the autoimmune causes his body to have allergic reaction to just about everything he eats Ren play guitar bass drum Piano produces his own music mixes his own beats beatboxes sings and can rap he can do any Gener of music great storyteller
Glad to see all people listening to Ren, he truly deserves it. I've got to be honest though, I can't take any reaction videos seriously when the reactor has already gone through the lyrics. For your own sake if you listen to the tale of Jenny and Screech you will absolutely ruin it for yourself. Just an honest opinion.

The discordant note on the guitar were intentional to denote the demonic identity's persona.
