- fitting the cam ( insert and turn 180 degrees before fitting the cam sprocket) torqueing the head, and fitting side covers
great work, looks beautiful Richard
Great job Richard looks great
Enjoying this immensely now got bottom end together great tip on main gasket as David Silver one had the round hole, got the Athena set from Wemoto and it’s spot on. What rubber cylinder seal did you omit?. Great little engines these
Thank you. I omitted the obring that sits on the bottom of the cylinder. Only took an hour to sort out.
Looking gr8
Hi Richard, I appear to have hit the same problem with not being able to set valve gap because I can't get feeler guage in. Tried turning cam 180 degrees but finding it hard to get lobes past valves. Did you hit this problem? Thanks
Keep jiggling the cam about, it will go.
The resistance is coming from the cam lobes trying to get past the valve. Cheers
When in the correct position, is the dowel on the shaft facing down?
@@johnbates465 it's been a while since I did this job so memory is faint. As I recall, the cam shaft goes in lobes facing up. I wound the valve rocker adjusters fully up and was able to wiggle the cam round as I inserted it. I don't remember it being difficult.
Richard, looking thru old photos that I took when stripping down it appears that small dowel or pin that fits into the shaft and lines up with the advance unit faces downwards. Does this seem correct? Thanks mate
So am I correct in assuming that you insert the cam with the lobes facing downward? I'm building a similar engine at the moment and want to make sure I get it correct
I can only get the cam to seat against the head with the lobes facing down. I don't know how richard fitted the cam Initially with lobes facing up. Necessitating the need to turn 180. I'm going wrong somewhere because I can't get A feeler gauge in to adjust valves 😜😜
I didn't have this problem with the cb200
Ok, it's been two years since I built the engine so I'm a bit hazy. If I were doing it again, , I would insert the cam lobes up as allowed by the design. Fit cam chain and sprocket using alignment marks, rotate engine one full rotation so cam lobes now facing down. Check engine is at top dead center using the flywheel markings aligned with case. Set valve clearances.
@@johnbates465 re watching my video, the cam lobes are facing upwards as I insert the cam. Make sure the adjusters are fully wound up out of the way. In this position it shouldn't be trying to lift valves. It should fit. Fit the cam sprocket timed using the dot and crankshaft alignment marks, rotate engine one rotation and ster valve clearance
Richard, I've spent half the day fitting and removing the camshaft. When I fitted and the lobes were facing down the cam went in nicely. When I fitted with lobes facing up there appears to be interference not allowing the camshaft go home. Sorry if my poor way I'm explaining things, only my second Resto so very wet behind the ears.. Many many thanks mate
Sorry mate one more question, Is yours points or cdi and do you know anything about converting one from points to cdi?
I have points, I don't know about the conversion, points work well though.
@@richardjweeks cheers mate
Hey mate is there a shim/washer on the camshaft there when you install it? Im in the process of reassembling an engine the exact same but someone else pulled it apart
Not that I recall, like you, someone else had previously dissasbled it before I got it .

Thanks very much

do you use regular 10w-40 when you put the engine back together and it is there a certain oil or grease you use?
Yes, just regular 10w40. It's important to change the oil every 700 miles dispute what the manual says ,to prevent cam wearing out.
@@richardjweeks on wemoto.com do you know if they ship to the U.S?
@@brysono3652 I honestly don't know, drop them an email and enquire. There must be a U. S equivalent company servicing the vintage honda market over there.
Their terms and conditions say they do but you will obviously pat higher rates of postage and import tax. I'm betting there is a company in the USA doing the same thing. A quick internet search should find somebody
at 6:00, do you know what the part is called that goes over the cam chain?
contact breaker, found it
When you say "over the cam chain" I'm not sure what it is you are refusing to. Could you clarify this. At 6.00 I'm discussing the importance of getting the cam orientation correct. There will be the points housing going over the cam chain shortly, this is a cover that hides what you are seeing now. There are also cam chain tensioner that I fitted earlier, this touches the cam chain.
@@richardjweeks I was looking for the points base cover, I found it on ebay, these videos are very helpful for my restoration, thank you
Hello! I restore a similar engine in Russia! I didn't have the original cover gasket, I cut it myself by hand. but I made the lubrication channel of the cylinder differently: I have it not a small hole, I cut a long hole just like it looks on the cover and the engine body. I basically repeated the design of the cover. please answer - will the lubrication system work properly?
and also, if you wish, you can watch my videos! )
Hi, o checked out your channel. Looks great. I can't tell if oil gallery will be ok as I'm not an engineer, but if oil flows, then should be ok.
@@richardjweeks
thanks man!) I'm watching your story about Honda. very helpful videos.
