I don't speak Spanish, but if I was forced to pick a favorite The Warning song, this is it. It is the ultimate rock anthem. Like all of their songs, it hits extra special live. The performance of this at the Teatro Metropolitan concert in Mexico is amazing.
This song is such a beautiful anthemic rock song with the soaring vocals and accompanying guitar solos! I was immediately hooked on 1st listen to this song...(and I don't understand Spanish 😆)
I get chills every time I listen to Martirio, and I don’t even know Spanish! Speaking from experience, this song is absolutely EPIC live! With every new song these sisters release I become more convinced that they WILL, without a doubt in my mind one day be recognized as not just one of, but THE GREATEST Power Trio of all time, eclipsing even the greatest power trios to date in Rush, Cream, The Police, Muse, Jimi Hendrix, Grand Funk Railroad. I know this is a bold statement, but I am absolutely certain of this! With the depth, maturity and subject matter of the lyrics found in the vast majority of their songs, I believe these young ladies souls are timeless and have eons of wisdom to draw upon. I believe one day soon they will dominate the world of music, and stay on top for as long as they choose to do so. Mark my words, they WILL sell out any venue they chose to play, including major arenas and stadiums and they WILL be invited to not just participate in, but headline the largest major music festivals the world has to offer, playing in front of millions! LONG LIVE THE VILLARREAL SISTERS!
Martirio is usually the closer before the encore and it absolutely kills live. The audience participation in the chant at the end gives me chills every time.
This is in my Top 5 songs of theirs. My brother and I always wish my dad was still alive to hear this song (He was an Italian immigrant) who loved Opera and great singers. He was not really fond of Rock music, but later in his years appreciated some of it. Since this was sung in Spanish and Dany, plus the music is so emotional, we thought he would love this song. Just my thoughts about how this song hits my brother and I.
Music transcends language. This is one of the most beautiful rock ballads ever written, and I don't speak the language., which is confirmed with each listen.
Arguably the best music video they have done. I dont speak a bit of Spanish but the cadence and emotion of the song makes it one of my favorites. I think the best live version of this is from Teatro Metropolitan. Very emotional. Dany has a short video doing this acapella, simply amazing vocalist.
I knew you were going to love this one. And you are correct. This IS one of the best songs EVER! The sheer passion of both the music and the vocals is astounding. Dany's bekt at the end bringsctears and chills every time. Watching yiu react made me feel this song fir the first time again, and I've watched this video and the luve versions dozens of times. Nice job once again. Now, you need to watch the Teatro and Peosi versions as well.
*Martirio* dives into the weight of suffering and its grip on the human spirit, offering two potential interpretations. On one hand, it paints a bleak picture of inescapable pain, where the protagonist feels trapped in a cycle of despair, surrendering to their "destiny" of anguish and isolation. The imagery of drowning in martyrdom and the fire at their feet suggests a life consumed by suffering with no hope of relief. On the other hand, the song can also be read as a tough-love message, urging someone to stop dwelling in their pain and face the hard truth that suffering is inevitable but not insurmountable. Lines like "Learn from those who suffered" and "Say goodbye, foolish martyr" encourage breaking free from self-imposed victimhood and embracing growth, even when it feels impossible. This duality gives the song a raw emotional complexity that resonates deeply, depending on how you choose to interpret it.
You nailed it in the second interpretation. This type of response we often get as children from our mothers. If I fell off my bicycle I dare not cry and better get up and ride it. Or if we fell and my parents saw me they would either laugh or get mad. “You see stupid I told you!!” Spanish: te lo dije pendejo!! Even though she had not said anything warning me to be careful, it’s a common cultural response to difficulties. Many of our greatest most famous songs sound festive and happy but when you understand the lyrics it’s the opposite. TW is not much different, if you really take time and read everything they have, this is a recurring theme. They’ve experienced the same thing I did. Our mothers run the household and say these things and they’re meant with a lotta love and we as children take it that way. Our mothers have always run the house, dad has nothing over her when it comes to the house. 😂
The last line, "Your sad life, foolish martyr, say goodbye" sounds the most unambiguous to me. It doesn't sound like a venerated position to be in. I wonder if it means something different in Spanish, and of course martyrdom *is* venerated in some cultures to the point of martyrs not believing there are "innocent" victims.
@@ot9ermy uncle is a Freemason and I’m going to ask him. During the 1920s the Mexican government prosecuted 20-25 Catholics which were later recognized martyrs and canonized. I’m wondering if TW is referencing that occurrence. Our culture is very negative, but within that negativity there is pride and happiness. I’m wondering if there is a connection to those martyrs and that dichotomy. I know that TW has said they’ve left many of their lyrics open to individual interpretation but you may have spotted a significant theme. Mexican comedians like George Lopez, Fluffy, Felipe Esparza, Paul Rodriguez etc all reference that negativity extensively.
LOVE THIS SONG! My favorite performance of Martirio is the live at the Teatro Metropolitan 2022. dany's voice cracks during her wail at the end and it just crushes the emotions. great reaction my friend
As a Mexican, the song captures me as well without even analyzing the lyrics, I go more with the sound vibes music transmits me, and this song is perfection.
Great reaction! I agree 10! The slow ones are equally good, when listen to Martirio the first word that comes to mind is ANTHEM!! Beautiful scenery in the video (shot in the Icamole desert north of their hometown Monterrey)
We know The Warning writes the best lyrics …. Just imagine if you are a native Spanish speaker like I’m … This song brings tears to my eyes every time I listen to it.
… and if you like the music video…. You’ll love the Teatro Metropolitan performance. If you watch close in that video, you can see Paulina at the beginning getting very emotional. Blessings,Peace and Love
Thanks Sohum....your reaction reflects what all of us know...one of the best Rock songs ever written in my opinion. Narcisista of course is another great one as well. Now that you have seen this really Epic OMV you really need to see the Live versions, Teatro is great as well as the Pepsi Center performances...top tier in every aspect. Cheers.
This song is The Warning’s masterpiece and one of the best MVs ever produced. Thank you for your reaction to this track - It’s one of the best I’ve come across. ✌️❤️🔥
Oh Heeeeel Yeah. This song I always liked but it has really grown on me over time to be one of my favorites. It's the lyrics for me and how they relate to the music; There's a real poetic interplay there musically. It's like they wrote the lyrics to have the words sound perfect together, and then the music supports it and reminds you how beautiful words can be.
You must listen to the live performance of this from Teatro Metropolitan. You probably have already noticed that The Warning "Live" performances are so much better than the studio recordings.
Martirio can also be translated to “torment”. Self torment, self sabotage, self destruction in this case “suffocated with your own hands”, “You try to find an explanation in the depths of your being, And you fall back into emptiness”. But of course as always with The Warning (& all music) the meaning & message is individual to the listener.
I finally listened to this song when their Pepsi Center performance of it came out and it blew me away! I hadn’t actually looked up the lyrics until now. Wowww these girls are just so amazing - I’m choking back tears rn
This is such a ridiculously good song video! From the chugging bass, wailing solo, Pau's long hair in the wind, to Ale's final superhero pose in the desert sun. It never stops blowing me away.
Amazing to consider that, at their ages, they have written or arranged songs that are truly so special I call them masterpieces. They have certain songs that resonate with me so deeply I get chills and emotional even though I’ve heard them dozens and dozens and dozens of times. Martirio is lyrically perhaps one of the most brilliant and beautifully honest and powerful poems put to music I have ever experienced and I felt that way not even knowing the meaning when I first heard it. Needless to say, this is a song that holds very special meaning for Dany, Pau and Ale.
I can't wait for the show in Guadalajara. Thank you for your reactions, I really enjoy them. I started with The Warning reactions, but I also had "Still of the Night" stuck in my head for the first time in over 30 years, I forgot how good that song is.
Queens of Rock. Yes, they are the queens of Rock. Been saying this since March of 2024. Even their Spanish songs, it's rock, I'll learn the words, but it's rock. The outro melodically chills me, too.
To date, this is my favorite song of theirs. It's the set closer (before encores) at the Pepsi Center CDMX show and it just lights the place up. Thanks for your reaction, Sohum!
"If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything!" Great comment! 10/10 for me also, they have quite a few now. Great reaction, thanks very much. ❤✌🤘⚡🔥
Although all of TW's songs are better live, this is one of the songs that should not be missing from this version because it's unbeatable, truly epic. Plus, It's known by many, from their own experience, that the more times you listen to a TW song, the more you will like it each time... but also for me "Martirio" has placed itself among my 5 or 6 songs that compete for the No. 1 of my favorite. I really liked your reaction because it was emotional and honest. Thanks and greetings from México!! 🇲🇽 🤟😁✌️
*Martirio* OMV in the OMV, the covering over the building frame was not supposed to be shredded... it was assembled whole but the winds had other ideas so DPA/TW and the team decided not to fight it... the flapping canvas makes for a nice atmosphere and works pretty well for this for the video and what the song represents... this is not the first time they've had to deal with the winds, either... one or two of their other MVs that were shot outside were also on windy days... their Foo Fighters cover of *The Pretender* comes to mind... there were also comments about how the blowing sand stung and caused them to feel like they had a sunburn... they did a great and professional job, that's for sure 😹 TWA ⚡🤘😸🤘⚡ TWA
Pau talks in an interview about taking the lyrics to their mother who then proceeded to tell them the grammar was all wrong and she helped correct it. Mony didn’t get a writing credit on this one but did on Que Mas Quieres. DPA have explained how difficult writing lyrics are in Spanish but plan to have at least one song in Spanish on every album now. They have laughingly said Spanish was their worst subject in school 😂
Martirio is an Iconic Rock Anthem that will stand the test of time for them. It's their Scorpions Winds of change, Police's Roxanne, Rush's Tom Sawyer. 11/10 for me! ⚡ This video was made a couple years after they first performed it in Argentina, back in 2019. Ale was around 14 at the time. Let that sink in.....
This song is exceptionally beautiful. Instrumentals & vocals fit perfectly. Notably for me, this is easily my favorite drum track on the entire Error album. Sublime!
That they even made it through the shoot of the OMV is an incredible feat. They were out in the desert all day and into the night. It was 45 C (113 F). The wind was blowing around gritty dust and sand as well as shredding the fabric on the frame that they intended to protect them and their instruments to some extent. The grit got into everything including their clothes making them even more uncomfortable. Plus, they were dodging wasps as well.
I wonder when the band and crew went from “The fabric just ripped apart in the wind; the shoot is totally ruined!” to “This is gonna look awesome in the video!”
How this song didn’t win Rock Song of the year in the Latin Grammy’s is absolutely baffling to me, same with Que Más Quieres. Puts the credibility of those shows through the floor for me.
I love that Ale looks like she is launching into the wind. So cinematic, almost a song of mythological proportions. Empowering anthem, don't be a pointless martyr. A complex song. I think you're getting to the meaning, which takes a bit of dissection. We tend to use the term martyr in a religious sense in English, but i understand it's not that specific in Spanish. Filmed in a remote part of the desert NW of Monterrey. A glider aircraft pilot found the location, and the ring of rocks looked untouched after 2 years. Pure mythology. I can't use the ticket because I'm already going 😅😅😅
I knew you would love this one. I have listened to more The Warning than I care to admit (basically everything they have written over ten years). This IS my favorite song. It is an absolute perfect classic rock anthem. It's arena rock in its purest rendition. Brilliant writing. The production by David Bendeth is sooo perfect for this song. Everything about this song/recording is perfect. There is nothing more to say.
Sohum, I greatly enjoyed your reaction to this powerful song. The lyrics hit harder than Pau smashing her drums. "Martirio" is a true rock anthem, with Dany's belts are the end driving the message deep into us.
I just love this song even if my Spanish is almost nonexistent. It will be an interesting few days in Monterrey in February as all I know how to say is please and thank you and how to order a beer. I have not made it through a weekend on just beer since my twenties and that is way to long ago, wish me luck. Thx.
I too was blown away by this song the first time I heard it. I avoided it a little at first because of the not speaking Spanish part, but that was a mistake. When the crowd up at the front of the Toronto show got view of the set list and saw that all 3 of the Spanish songs were on it, we were so happy. I definitely felt transported while hearing that song, I barely remember actually hearing the song, was just a total experience.
An amazing song perfect for arenas and stadiums for the end of their shows the OMV is beautiful the live versions are mesmerizing. I always get chills throughout this song which is crazy for a non Spanish speaker. Great reaction thank you. 🔥⚡
This song is by far my favorite spanish song from them, and is on my top list in general from their songs, this ladies are absolutely awesome, I love all their songs
First off, congrats on finishing your PHD, no small feat! Someone said The Girls can't write music?? Seriously? Even for someone who speaks very, very basic Spanish Martirio and the other two Spanish songs are gorgeous. I hope they do include one Spanish song per album, as the stated they would like to do. Love the way you get into their songs, nice reaction.
I do not know a word of Spanish, but this is one of the best songs and is one of my favorites and it hits even harder when they perform live. The rock anthem of all rock anthems.
This is far and away their most beautiful Spanish song, and always hits me in the gut (I could have benefited from hearing it... about 25 years before any of them were born). I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for "Narcisista", but this one probably tops the list in terms of music and composition.
Cool, that you got the message of the song - as i'm sure you know, often times a bit of nuance and impact is lost in translation. Judging from your reaction to this song, you can understand that I actually cried the very first time I saw them play it live, in San Diego CA. Man, whudda song!! Great reaction, my friend.⚡️👍
I had no idea what the words meant, I didn’t need to! This is such a beautiful song and I honestly think that in English it just wouldn’t be right, the lyrics in Spanish fit perfectly and it flows so well!
The meaning of the word "martirio" in the context of the song is closer to the word "suffering" (in general) or "to suffer". In Spanish martirio can mean different things (again, depending on the context).
2:08 - and 5:08 Dany's eyes tho... 😍 These girls give me chills, random tears... I figured I'd be a complete disaster when I saw them live, but the truth is that it was such a surreal experience that I was just more in awe. Good luck with your PHD, BTW! I couldn't bring myself to have that much motivation after my Masters LOL! More power to you, Brother!
Pepsi Center's sound and performance of this is pristine, but the Teatro Metropolitan show had superior camera work, on this song, which really matters of this one and gives you a sense of what it would have been like that night 2 years ago. This and Dust to Dust are IT for me!
No offense. We all get different meanings from a song, but i get the exact opposite of what you're feeling. I feel they're saying how silly it is to live in pain, fear, and depression for Martyrdom. Definitely one of the best Rock anthems ever written. Enjoy your reactions...:)
My favorite Spanish song by them. This is the one that should have been nominated for a Latin Grammy. 👍😎
Too bad it was during COVID times, it shure would have

They just need that one hit song and then I believe they will blow up and become exactly what you described.
Martirio is usually the closer before the encore and it absolutely kills live. The audience participation in the chant at the end gives me chills every time.
Yes, the Pepsi Center performance of this song really sold me on this song!
Martirio is a masterpiece, both lyrically and musically.
Dany always manages to find the EXACT tone needed on her guitar...always...
Martirio is a vastly underrated international Rock Anthem that in my opinion is their Free Bird.
Even with my very limited grasp of Spanish, this remains one of my favorite The Warning songs! This has stadium anthem written all over it!

It's your second interpretation that is my take-home from this beautiful song.
You nailed it in the second interpretation. This type of response we often get as children from our mothers. If I fell off my bicycle I dare not cry and better get up and ride it. By far my favourite song from The Warning. The ending gives me goosebumps every time.
I was so blown away when I first heard this song I couldn't believe what I was witnessing, and being Mexican myself was a double whammy
The one word that comes to mind every time I listen to this song is Anthemic. 🤯
As a Mexican, the song captures me as well without even analyzing the lyrics, I go more with the sound vibes music transmits me, and this song is perfection.
This song is in my The Warning top 5. Love the video. Love it Live 😊😊.
Great reaction! I agree 10! The slow ones are equally good, when listen to Martirio the first word that comes to mind is ANTHEM!! Beautiful scenery in the video (shot in the Icamole desert north of their hometown Monterrey)
This song is such epic sound, an anthem to life, whether you understand the lyrics or not. It's great live at Teatro Metropolitan CDMX!
Such a great song. I really love all three of their Spanish language songs. (and I'll be seeing them twice in Mexico City)
We know The Warning writes the best lyrics ….
Just imagine if you are a native Spanish speaker like I’m …
This song brings tears to my eyes every time I listen to it.
… and if you like the music video…. You’ll love the Teatro Metropolitan performance.
If you watch close in that video, you can see Paulina at the beginning getting very emotional.
Blessings,Peace and Love
Great reaction, thank you. I have the same smile on my face since I discovered them earlier this year. They're just so good ❤
This song is so magnificent!!! Such an anthem. You need to watch it live at Teatro Metropolitan, my favorite live version!!!!
Thanks Sohum....your reaction reflects what all of us know...one of the best Rock songs ever written in my opinion. Narcisista of course is another great one as well. Singing along with Martirio at the LA concert last year was incredible. I wanted to since first hearing it. An incredible anthem. ❤
This song is The Warning’s masterpiece and one of the best MVs ever produced. Thank you for your reaction to this track - It’s one of the best I’ve come across. ✌️❤️🔥

Very correct 👍
It’s a beautiful ballad and Spanish is a great choice. Fun to see and hear your reaction to your new favorite song. 😂 🤟🏼🎸🥁🎸🤟🏼
This masterpiece EPIC song is a rock anthem!!
Viva The Warning!! ⚡⚡⚡
🥰🥰🥰
This an arena anthem. When you hear thousands of people singing the end of this it takes your breath away.
Dani goes supernatural in this!! What a voice! ❤️🔥

"This is the best song I've ever heard". Yeah, can't argue with that. The video is crammed with iconic stills. Magnificent.
This is my favourite TW song...along with about 40 others...
Everytime I listen to Martirio it reassure it's place on the #1 top for me. Martirio is above epic, it's something else.

Martirio is a top 5 TW song for sure, their best in Spanish, off course they only have 3 so not many to choose from. Saludos desde México.
I freakin' love this song. My throat was raw from chanting along when I saw them live. Keep Rockin' my friend TWA 🤘⚡🤘
To date, this is my favorite song of theirs. It's the set closer (before encores) at the Pepsi Center CDMX show and it just lights the place up. Thanks for your reaction, Sohum!
Whoever said they don't write good lyrics hasn't listened to their lyrics.
This song is so good, and LIVE is much better!!
"If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything!" Great comment! 10/10 for me also, they have quite a few now. Great reaction, thanks very much. ❤✌🤘⚡🔥
What a FUCKING GREAT SONG !!!
Agree with your assessment Sohum, Martirio is a perfect song. Every-time I listen to it, I am transfixed to its beauty.
Although all of TW's songs are better live, this is one of the songs that should not be missing from this version because it's unbeatable, truly epic.

Obra maestra de las chicas, para mi la mejor canción que tienen en español
How this song didn’t win Rock Song of the year in the Latin Grammy’s is absolutely baffling to me, same with Que Más Quieres.
Puts the credibility of those shows through the floor for me.
There were no Latin Grammy's during the pandemic., but for Q+Q they was robbed.
One of their best ..this one rocks hard..🤘
still my favourite song!!!
One word. Masterpiece.
This, sir is perfection! All the pieces fell into place for this. Musical art!
Hearing this live and singing along is cathartic.
Sohum, I greatly enjoyed your reaction to this powerful song. The lyrics hit harder than Pau smashing her drums. "Martirio" is a true rock anthem, with Dany's belts are the end driving the message deep into us.
Rock anthem is the perfect way to put it
I just love this song even if my Spanish is almost nonexistent.
I used to listen to English music when I didn’t know it. Music is universal to all languages
This is a great song live too, so make sure you do the Pepsi center version😉
I think someone told me once that one of the women in black clothing is actually The bands mom under one lol pretty cool
Someone commented that Mony their mom was in this abd a couple of aunts. The sand Destroyed the sheet.
Incredible song!!!!❤
I do not know a word of Spanish, but this is one of the best songs and is one of my favorites and it hits even harder when they perform live. The rock anthem of all rock anthems.
This is far and away their most beautiful Spanish song, and always hits me in the gut (I could have benefited from hearing it... about 25 years before any of them were born). I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for "Narcisista", but this one probably tops the list in terms of music and composition.
Glad you liked it. Not really into power ballads myself.

Dude…. I’m so happy that you GET IT
2:08 - and 5:08 Dany's eyes tho...
This and Dust to Dust are IT for me!
this song took a few listens before it slapped me in the face on how much of a banger it is
Great reaction! Other bands make music that sounds good... The Warning somehow makes music that both "feels" and sounds great.
No offense. We all get different meanings from a song, but i get the exact opposite of what you're feeling.
I feel they're saying how silly it is to live in pain, fear, and depression for Martyrdom.
Definitely one of the best Rock anthems ever written.
Enjoy your reactions...:)
