Needs at least a couple more tools to be a SAK killer, scissors for example. Not sure about the safety of using a metal toothpick either. Still it seems like a fun knife but it's a bit expensive for for what it is in my opinion.

As someone who has EDCed a Victorinox Swiss Champ for 39 years, I agree. This looks good for what it is although I would choose the spear point blade but it can't possibly replace my Swiss Champ. Truthfully I don't see how it could replace a Tinker. The lack of scissors is it's biggest flaw !

@johnossendorf9979 Same here. I have a Tinker and just ordered a Super Tinker, so I won’t have to carry my Classic SD around with the Tinker; I’ll just carry the Super Tinker. Even the Tinker is very handy. The blade is good enough for most tasks-cutting rope, opening packages, etc. If I need anything more extreme, which is rare, I have a Milwaukee Fastback 6-in-1, and I have a Pyrite Lite on the way as well!

@@johnossendorf9979 There is a drop point variant. The trade off for the missing tools is better tweezers, a more durable pick (not many people actually pick their teeth with it anyway), one hand operation, upgraded steel, and a locking blade. It costs as much as a Swiss Compact so it's fair enough in my book 🤷🏽‍♂️

Same. The rest of the standard SAK tools are so invaluable and multi functional. The 2 small screw drivers, bottle and can opener. The only way I could give up a SAK for anything else would be it to pair with a SAK Swiss Card classic. That was great for on the go nail care. I ended up donating that to TSA by mistake when I took a plane trip and I haven't replaced it yet,

I snagged one a few months back while kicking around a local shop. I have the drop (or spear) point option with wooden scales. The tweezers and pick had my attention for the reasons they intended. It’s become an office backpack carry. It’s def slicey and has been used at lunch more than once! And does so without looking intimidating like my favorites may be. Pop out a PM2 in the office and they look at you like you’re crazy! Anyway, with the Nitro-V and a sub 60 price point didn’t bother me a bit. What bothers me are the number of 250-500 knives that do the work of a 100+ knife - for most of us. That’s a different conversation. No matter! Enjoy what you can! Life is short - find the fun!

I would retire my Swiss Army knives for this, "if" they would add another layer to give a can opener, cap lifter flat and phillips combination (same as the SAK compact) because the tweezers and toothpick are better.
Or, I would pay extra to SAK to gove us a better blade steel, even if it was only for a few models. And then I would have to modify the plus scales to accept these tweezers.

Excellent point, and I saw Jon’s video, which was also very good. SAK is a great company, but they cater to the world market, not just USA, so they might do this, but only if they see demand for it. I’m thinking a smaller company would be more likely to make this.
The odds are good that someone will do something similar to what I want. Even Benchmade makes a weekender with a blade and a cap lifter, and could make it with a little bit of innovation (and another layer)

I love the combo of a well thought out and well executed single blade pocket knife with tweezers and a toothpick. It really does triple the utility without increasing the footprint.
The tweezers look excellent, a definite upgrade over the SAK. But the steel toothpick looks too sharp to be poking around in your mouth with, and also too long and rigid to maneuver into the tight spots between your teeth. The shorter and flexible SAK toothpick has always gotten the job done very well for me.
If they shortened the toothpick and made it out of something like the SAK flexible tweezer steel, that could be perfection for me.

I've had a sendy for the better part of a year now, and it is easily my #1 casual/friendly EDC knife. non-intimidating design, scale tools that I use almost every time I carry it... I could absolutely yap on about it. the ONLY flaw I can mention is that the wood version's scales have a couple of small corners that aren't backed by steel liner, and if you're EDC-ing it, those corners may eventually weaken and crack along the grain (like my first one did). fortunately civivi customer service is great and I got the green/red G10 version you show in the video as a replacement, and it's been a perfect knife for me (for this application) ever since. the wood handle version looks awesome and would make a great gentleman's knife or groomsman/employee gift, but don't wear it in a pocket every day

Man, really like that Worksharp, with the ceramic stone as well. I've carried an EZE-LAP diamond rod for years. Very compact, smaller than a sharpie. Basically a diamond steel rod in a brass tube that you unscrew, reverse, and screw back together, making a handle. Very high quality, but it doesn't have a ceramic sharpener like the Worksharp, which would be really nice.

I’ve always had the best luck removing splinters or metal slivers with just a thin and sharp blade, my SAK tinkers small blade is sharpened to a 17 degree edge on an already thin blade(only intended for the finest/lightest tasks). I like my Benchmade proper that I put a finer edge on, but I pair that with a prybar/driver because it’s only function is cutting(adding a toothpick/tweezer combo to a single blade knife with no tools isn’t what I’m looking for…I have to give Civivi and the other companies props for putting a blade lock on a “traditional” ish style knife though👍🏻). MKM and another company I can’t think of make SAK style knives with better materials and sometimes tool options, still no locking blades and pricey though.

    1. excellent review.
    2. I relate a dispute I had with the famous Ron Hood about 40 years ago before the Leatherman tool concept. All that was available with tools would have been an offering from SAK. He wanted a saw blade. I wanted a pair of scissors as my experience was that I needed to trim nails, trim materials and clean out under finger and toe nails. So, I investigated which was the least expensive offering that had both a scissors and a saw. Of course, the unit would also have the tweezers and the toothpick. It turned out to be the Huntsman.
    3. When the government started seizing pocket knives at airports, it was a field day on acquiring knives. I ended up up with at least a couple dozen used which I refurbished.
In fact the Great Recession of 2008-2009 yield a lot of good buys of used knives to restore. (When you assert that the US is in a recession, just check the used prices of knives on eBay - no fella, there are no distress sales.)

Has a tiny blade, a fingernail file, a flat tipped screwdriver on the end of the file, tweezers, the plastic toothpick which I'd much rather have than the enamel scratching steel one. And a pair of spring loaded scissors! What else does an old man need when riding around checking out the scenery or shopping with the Wife or at the Restaurant?

Its a very nice knife. I mean its a great looking knife and I do have a few like it, but when it comes to practicality... FOR ME and what I need - NOTHING BEATS SAK. The knifes like this I have I mostly use for fidgeting. Actually in videos like yours - you never see these knifes actually used for a while, like 2-3 years of heavy use. Dirty scratched, chiped... I just canot imagine spreading peanut butter on a sandwitch or do some dirty work with a knife like this :-D. It would just feel weird. SAK never ever rusts. You just rince it and its ready to go :-D. Steel toothpick? Its like a nail. I do not think its good for your teeth to scratch them with steel. You can buy 10 plastic toothpicks that are surprysingly durrable and they do not destroy your teeth. I love them. Looks and tweesers - you are probalbly right those are better :-).

Its a grear knife but it doesnt come close to replacing my swiss army knife that has way more tools.
The Ranger and handyman are my two all tine favorite SAK's. They have the two blades, saw, file, and scissors along with the standard flat head and can opener philllps as well as the extra back tools. The handyman aslonhas the small pliers. I carry the handyman daily and the Ranger when I want a snaller package. I also have a few other smaller knee if I just want a smaller knife.
I also like being avle to just throw them in my pocket. The only thing I dint like about SAK's is they arent quick on the draw. Its akways nice when you can just wip out your pocket clip one handed opening knife use it and quickly slip it back. That said I doubt I will ever stop carrying my SAK.

I have the swiss soldier's knife and it would absolutely be my primary EDC if it had a pocket clip. It's not uber slim/lightweight, but neither are other classics like the cold steel recon 1. I even tried using their keyring thingy and letting it attach to the lanyard ring on the knife. It was obnoxious. Add freakin' pocket clips!

8:18 States people may retire their Swiss army knife, mentions what this tool won't have, says to carry another tool. Man it's a cool knife but other than possibly 1-2 better "scale tools" I think this was a lot of time spent on what is basically just a knife. @svgs650r lol no. Leatherman is an American made company and is far more useful than a SAK. SAK are useless, as the steel sucks, is made of plastic, and has useless tools such as scissors. Sissors are only good in the office, as a knife can easily do the job, and has far more uses. Look at Clay Hayes for example! A leatherman is the working man's tool, tried and true from all trades. It has to be pretty durable if it can survive a concrete man! Pliers are far more useful than some wimpy scissors, that can easily be broken. SAK should stay in the office where they belong.

@@that_guy_8177 well considering I’ve used both for decades the leather man pliers suck and other than that the leatherman really doesn’t have any capabilities beyond a SAK. If you need a tool beyond what a SAK is capable of well that’s why there’s dedicated tools and leatherman ain’t it!
