Hi new to your channel; we raised goats many years ago and our vet told us to boil rice, strain and give the 'rice water' instead of milk for a day; it really works. Just a thought to pass along; hope all gets better. In Joy
I loved everything (except for sick goats) about today's video. You are so nice to share as you learn. I was even happy to hear that you were not fully comfortable about taking temps. That's how I would be. You did it! I would treat myself and my family to chicks after that success. Well done!
Our baby goats and even our momma goats will have loose stools when we switch them from hay to pasture. As long as they are acting normal and they have no temperature they are fine. It's always a good idea to error on the side of caution. You are doing a great job :)
Good luck with the goat babies! I am quite sure it is food related, but better safe than sorry. Love to hear what the Vet said. Good luck with the beautiful new heard of chickeeeees too!! ;) Norway sends you the best of wishes from 1 foot of snow.... ;) ( Have not seen green grass since november....)
Wow 30 Chicks..good luck they are sooo cute. I only purchased 6... they are 7 weeks old right now and growing and growing. Great videos, awesome family.😊😊🐤🐤🐤🐥🐥🐥
You are such a good Mama,to the kiddos and animals alike.I did the "impulse" chick buy a year ago,but only got 6,which one turned out to be a rooster, and living in the city,I gave him away. After working with veterinarians for 16yrs,you can't be to cautious with dehydration in animals or people for that matter. Also big thumbs up for your cautions with the children on not catching infection from the animals.I make my granddaughter wash her hands every time she handles the chickens or gathers eggs, even though they seem healthy.
I bet they're suffering from too much new pasture too soon, huh? (Since their poop is green.) May they soon be well. They are SO cute! And SO are the baby chicks!!! I SO enjoy your site, you guys! God bless you!
Impulse chicks. lol. Been there done that. 3 yrs ago on impulse I bought my first chicks at TSC on Easter weekend. Today only sale $.99 each. Never had chickens before in my life. Give me 2 of each. Thanks goodness they didnt have broilers that day. Ended up with 8 pullets. Lucky me. Fast forward 3 yrs, nearing $1,500 on coops and run building supplies. 24 chickens at highest count. Blahaaaaa! Wish I knew about chicken rickshaws and electric fence and guard geese back then. Good luck with your new flock and the baby goats.
ahhhhh!!!! how wonderful! and praying for the baby goats also! neat that Grace is going to learn to be the boss of her own little flock...very neat! so many great reasons for being raised on a farm...wish I could go back and start over with my own daughter, not that she isn;t wonderful now, just I think she would have had so many wonderful experiences on a farm =)
Hope your goats get better! Love seeing the baby chicks. So sweet! I can't wait until I get moved up to the family farm and can raise my own chickens. =) 🌾Be Blessed ღ 🌿
Coccidiosis with goats is not that common, at least in our area. You did the right thing though by calling the vet and taking temperature. They will tend to have lose stools going to lush pasture in general. Babies will have lose stools from time to time as they eat more solid food.
You guys are great. Love the new chicks! I felt at first you were just a copy of the Rhodes channel, but after several months of watching I must say your channel is so different and enjoyable. I look foreword to your vlogs every day. Keep up the great work!!!
New goat mom...they'll be fine. :) I'd classify their poops as "loose"...typical for animals getting too much greens or even some of the plants that they shouldn't be eating. Heck even too much of some greens gives me the poops lol You're doing great to limit their access and introduce it slowly. As new moms, we tend to fear the worse I think :)
Heh, feed/farm stores can be dangerous places to go this time of year, lol. Cute little chicks. As for the scours, it is loose, but as you say, they seem to be acting pretty normal, so hopefully it will all turn out well. I second the idea of fermented foods for the farm animals when possible. We give our goats (and chickens and ducks) soaked, fermented grains, and add old yogurt or kefir to the chicken feed at times. We think the goat kids should be getting the benefit of the mamas' natural probiotics already, so just giving some ferments to the mamas should be good enough on that front. Looks like you're doing really great. :)
I just bought "Natural Goat Care" By Pat Coleby. I will let you know how I like it. Other than that I like Fiasco Farms Website, Weed Em and Reap website, and I have a few Standard Goat Care Books that are ok, but not super detailed. I am happy my new book gives a lot of details.
Love it! Good morning Bri! Are these chicks going to be for freezing eventually or laying? Just wondering and I can't wait to see the setup you're going to have with these new additions! Happy Sunday!
enjoying your babies. This is our first year in many without any. I have not had coccidiosis since I started giving the babies kefir (from goats milk). It ķeeps their guts healthy so they can build up their immunity. I give them 2cc a day their first week. (Nubians) Then every other day for their first month. Then about once a week till they are 4 months. I increase the amount as they get bigger. I also give it to any of the goats if they are acting off. (50cc or more you can not give them to much) It is sour to them at first and they might act like you are trying to kill them. But In a few days the kids are lining up for theirs and wanting more. If a doe needs it she will suck it down. Thanks to you and Rosemary for giving me my baby fix this Year! Wild-Heaven Nubians
Thank you for the Kefir idea! I should be getting my Raising Dairy Goats Naturally book any day! So I am hoping to read all about these kinds of ways to raise goats!
Kefir is fermented milk. Which is full of good bacteria for the gut. You could also use raw apple cider vinegar in their water to introduce good bacteria into the gut. You might have to give the baby goats electrolytes if they get dehydrated from all the pooping.
Get Art to make a simple 1x4 frame with hardware cloth stapled to it it cover your pool.. that will keep little fingers out and little feet IN.......longer....LOL
Coccidiosis can be a serious parasite of all farm animals and Humans alike. Old timers swore on mixing vinegar in with their animals water. Keeps the parasites in control they'd say. One teaspoon per gallon was the formula my Granny used. It worked, and I still use it today.
Hahaha I can see me doing this. In fact, Little Bear and I wanted a "protecting goose" because we had a Cooper Hawk trying to get to our girls a few weeks ago. That was until you've both mentioned Donald squeaking loudly as recent at the last video. lol We do have neighbors and an ordinance about having a rooster (sadly) so I'm imagining that having a goose, neighbors would not be too happy with me. I wish I could get a rooster though.
Yer that happened to me too we went to get a broody chicken a egg, it didn't hatch so we went to get her a day old chick came back with five. she thought she was really clever hatching 5 chicks from 1 egg. 😄 they are 3 and a half months and she's still a proud mum.
BABY CHICKS!!!!! Must be a Farm Wife thing, I brought home 19 last fall. I think my farmer is sure I'm nuts, and I'm probably not allowed at the farm store during chick season now lol
Angela conigliaro We love our Buff Orpingtons. Friendly birds, heavy layers, and they are thriving in this crazy weather we're having here in central VA.
I Don't know goats, but with green droppings my guess is grass. They seem active. I use to have a great dog book that would list a bunch of symptoms that if they had one ,you then look to the second symptom, such as blood or mucus or fever... it was a handy chart with temp.s and whether you needed a vet right away, 24 hours or could wait. Also listed all the diseases and infections and health problems to look out for. I'm sure someone out there has written a good one for goats... _What kind of chickens did you get? Do you plan on building a big coop for 30 more chickens?
It is that time of year for babies. Now you are going to have to make another chickshaw. Maybe even some more fencing. Get another goose to raise with them. Too cute, all of the babies, chicks and human.
I went to the seed store for seed to fodder - then put in My juicer.... I would have left with just seed but had to go inside to pay AND THERE THEY WERE ! ! Brought home 4 easter eggers. Had to start them in My midtown condo. :-)
This made me tell my husband not to come home with a bunch of chickens until he checks with me first (and I'll do the same). It's totally something we both would do, haha! Only it would probably be goats or a dog (for me) or some fancy kind of snake (for him). I'm a sucker for stray animals- that's how we ended up with his little dog and my big one.
You have the GREATEST PARENTS. Now it is 2021 January. And they and each of you are EVEN GREATER. GOD IS THE GREATEST GOD OF ALL GODS KING OF KINGS. YOU ARE SO BLESSED. KEEP PRAYING. LOVE HUGS AND PRAYERS FROM ME. LIVING IN S.E.MICHIGAN🐣🐥🐔🐣🐥🐔🐣🐥🐔🐣🐥🐔🐦🐦💖💖🛐🛐🔯💜💖🀄🀄🀄💖💯💯💯🎆💐🌻🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢😂😂🌝🎆🛐🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
We just lost two of our new born goats, the smallest/weakest of the three babies we took her into our house and hand fed her and shes seems to be doing ok now. It really breaks my heart when we lose an animal but it happens on a farm.
I know it happens with donkeys. They have to be limited on exposure to fast growing grass. Probably same with goats because they originate from same sort of environments.
Well lets look at the bright side, once the little chicks are fully grown, and that you put them in with the flock. And once it's time to hatch your own chickens, you wont have to worry about inbreeding, since you added some new blood into the flock! XD
Hi...... Art and Bri, thank you for sharing your video homestead 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 🎥👍👍👍

Isn't it so much fun, The knowledge you are gaining, The joy you are giving those young ones will last forever!
I am glad to see that it looks like to much fresh grass! The goats are looking GREAT.
I was relieved too! They are much better now.
I loved everything (except for sick goats) about today's video. You are so nice to share as you learn. I was even happy to hear that you were not fully comfortable about taking temps. That's how I would be. You did it! I would treat myself and my family to chicks after that success. Well done!
Oh wow how Blessed you are, your goats are so Adorable, I love to hear them talk, I’ll pray that the goats do not have an infection

I love watching the children with the animals. You teach me something every time I watch.

Awww your poor little shepherdess! Such a good girl. I hope the babies are better soon!
Aww I hope they feel better. I love how the kiddos are going to manage their own flock.

You are a big sucker, mamma. They got your name number, now!! :))
Same here as Joann & Carol...free horse... Spent plenty of money on stall, feed, hay, bedding...plenty of $$$ - LOL
Sweet children holding cute chicks. Lordy!

The baby chicks are so cute. Your videos are so awesome. How did you find out about homesteading? Is there a website for homesteading places?
Do you rake and sift the dry areas in the barn..the middle area?
Yes, I clean it out frequently.
You guys are great. Love the new chicks! I felt at first you were just a copy of the Rhodes channel, but after several months of watching I must say your channel is so different and enjoyable. I look foreword to your vlogs every day. Keep up the great work!!!
I hope the babies are getting well ! We're getting ready to get new chicks, too. It's that time of the year.
Your children are Adorable and Precious
good luck with goats and the baby chicks.

Haha! Having new goats for the first time is a lot like having a new baby for the first time. You worry about everything!!!
Can I just say y'all are such awesome parents.
You guys are such a good family and you should be very proud of your children they are such sweet kids!!
Love the "oops" moment. Your kids were so happy. I would have given in also. :)

Do you put some DE in their food to get rid of internal parasites?
I love the beginnings and endings of your videos. So pretty.
Thank you.
what kind of chicks did u buy?
The baby goats are so cute! I hope they are ok.
Get well soon, baby goats!
I am hoping it is just the green grass. Loving the chickies!
Grace's face was getting very serious as she hears the news, today no play with the goats, very innocent and cute.
Your baby goats are so cute. Can you suggest any good goat care books?
I just bought "Natural Goat Care" By Pat Coleby. I will let you know how I like it. Other than that I like Fiasco Farms Website, Weed Em and Reap website, and I have a few Standard Goat Care Books that are ok, but not super detailed. I am happy my new book gives a lot of details.

Egg layers.
You guys are the best... you crack me up!!! You got 30 chicks LOL ... :) Enjoy !
What did you get for the baby goats? I am a first time goat owner also and have some mommas about to kids. I just love this channel. Stay strong!
Probios and nutricha drench.
What breeds of chickens did you get?!
Ha, ha! Loved Arts response!! Awesome
Awww!!!They are precious! Can't wait to get my chicks but I think I may start with some khaki Campbell ducks. 🤓🎉🎉

It happens to the best of us, even us adults. Nothing so sweet as a baby chick! I may be doing the very same thing next week!
What breeds of chicks did you get? I see you got some Rhode Islands and maybe Easter eggers. How many are girls and how many are boys?
All ladies. Rhode Island Reds, Buff Brahma, Americaunas
Get Art to make a simple 1x4 frame with hardware cloth stapled to it it cover your pool.. that will keep little fingers out and little feet IN.......longer....LOL
Happens to us every single year!!! Except, my wife gives in to ducks!!!!!
30 oh yes they are so much fun what breed? Those little goats are soöööö. Cute thanks for sharing🐥🐥🐥🐥🐥🐥🐥🐥🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣
I can't resist either!!!
It's like a fishing channel it just pulls you in, same with baby chicks enjoy
You're doing the right thing. Better safe than sorry, right? YA on getting chicks.
Hope the little goats are well soon. 30 chicks lol The childrens faces were worth at least 30 chicks lol
Best wishes Derry

Raw apple cider vinegar?
@@omoore02 that's what I use. And it can't hurt by adding it!
Happy 200k subs!
You'll "do better next time"?? I think you did just fine this time! Great vlog as always
Hahaha I can see me doing this. In fact, Little Bear and I wanted a "protecting goose" because we had a Cooper Hawk trying to get to our girls a few weeks ago. What a hen!
It is very common for feces to change consistency when feed changes and sometimes for no apparent reason at all. They seem fine to me.
Watch out for that chicken math!!! LOL
BABY CHICKS!!!!! Must be a Farm Wife thing, I brought home 19 last fall. I think my farmer is sure I'm nuts, and I'm probably not allowed at the farm store during chick season now lol
Do you guys know the best breed of chickens for Virginia?
Angela conigliaro We love our Buff Orpingtons. Friendly birds, heavy layers, and they are thriving in this crazy weather we're having here in central VA.
Buff Orpingtons and Silver Laced Wyandottes have served me well here on the VA coast. They seem to have a good mix of cold and heat hardiness.
Can the Kids get bloat?
Love the Chicks. I want some too!
so many babies, aren't they fun!
I am a sucker this time of year also (even though I hatch my own also). I just can't resist!
Congratulations !!! So funny, sounds like something I would do then text my husband 😳
Baby chicks are cuties.
My baby Pygmy was sick a couple of days ago but she is okay now. I figured out she really love humans because she would probably sleep in you bed😂
You need a micro to check for cociddia (spell?)
Best to take sample to Vet.
way to go bri. good choice.
ask justin Rhodes about full circle farms goats..copper in the water when soaking their food.
I have been reading up on it.
I feel like the new pasture grass is very reasonable for their diarrhea
I have the same chick problem! LOL I bought 22 one week before my hatch and yesterday I bought $75 in ducks lol!
HA! Arthur would have been a lot more excited if I had bought ducks!
ART and BRI I can't have too many of them!
Please be very careful w/ the heat lamp.. The can catch fire and kill.

my husband was watching behind me and I didn't realize and all of a sudden he says 'What the heck are you watching!' lol
From what I heard change in diet can have affect on stool. Which is.. I guess logical.
Good that the kids didn't have any blood in their stool. Likely not coccidiosis then. I am betting the rich grass in their system caused the diarrhea.
We just lost two of our new born goats, the smallest/weakest of the three babies we took her into our house and hand fed her and shes seems to be doing ok now. It really breaks my heart when we lose an animal but it happens on a farm.
How sad.
Might be the hay.
Sometimes that will happen, if they get too much grass than usual.
XD
I thought coccidiosis was species specific.
