Following your instructions @2:21 my gloves are firmely attached to the ring, the toothpick is glued to the glove, and despite the gloves I have glue on my fingers. I guess I must be a natural talent!
Hey Dan. Sorry i had to jump out of the live the other night but my.little boy took ill and was rushed to hospital. In regards to your guitar ring its simply amazing however having said that im not going to buy one because im going to make one. If you look at my video (Laying my past to rest) you.ll see i cremate my late step dads guitar and give him it back although i do still have the strings and other parts such as the frets and tuning knobs. Sonthats what im going to do. Im going to make a ring just like yours from his old guitar strings because i was pissed about his decissions he made but he raised me and i still love him. Il keep you updated with the build.
I am a disabled veteran and have been looking for a hobby to keep me busy love how you explain it and your course I am slowly getting better at this and have brought it up at Batavia PTSD center in NY for more veterans to do to keep there mind busy please keep doing your video and online course we appreciate what you do and you have help more than you can imagine thank you again
For CA finishing you can get ring bushings on woodturners catalog. I personally use them on a pen mandrel and cut 20 1x1 squares of the blue scotts shop towels "very soft". You fold each of those in thirds as you go, run your lathe at 500 rpm and apply Thin CA as it's turning. Apply a drop or two to the shop towel piece and run it across the ring while spinning. A quick shot of activator on every coat should produce a nice even glass like finish with minimal wet sanding required if any. Sounds like a lot but after a bit it's super easy!
Thank you again man, I focus more on organic materials and I have many more projects to come so hopefully I can carve a name and an identity for myself. Thank you for watching!
Zebrano Wood Craft have you ever tried mixing anything with the ca glue to get a different effect? I was going to try it with some silica carbide powder to get a little bit of shimmer.
You know if it is the same as the other makers it's still an awesome way to make one and that's an awesome ring you do a great job and it doesn't take a lot of tools you can take and make a spindle yourself by using a ring spindle put it on a drill for the nail on the other end with piece of wood and make your own little set up so you don't have to have a fancy lathe to do all this and that's what nice about this guys work cuz he uses files instead of lathe tools
I love this fantastic work. Can I ask where you get your veneer from and sizing of rings to length of veneer you need or just use a mandril. I have loads of questions 😁
Really Nice Work!!! Question….When cutting your channel for the abalone, how do you keep from disrupting, “catching” or grabbing the guitar strings already inlayed???
nice ring man. just a question.. how come your abolone strip doesnt break? and folds nicely? the time i tried bending the abalone strip it just breaks... please let me know .
what is the name of that long wooden for the ring holder that stick to the drill at 3:19 ? and where can i get it??? thats the last part of the item that i don't know for ring making :(
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your video's. I have a question. I made my father a ring (sterling, wood and dolomite) and coated it in Alumilite (sp?) resin as my final step...even after my ca glue....well the resin started wearing off. So I sanded it off and set the ring aside to work on it later...well, I LOST IT. So now I have to start all over (crap). Anyway, do you feel like the end result of your ring is hard enough and durable with your CA coating? AND...can you tell me what brand and viscosity of CA glue you use as a final coating? Thanks soooooo much for your video's...they are very informative and entertaining!!!
Nice job man! Love the humor in your videos! :) If people want to complain about the prices, they should try making these and see how difficult it is to make them look really good and how long it takes. Or just go back to Walmart for some roll back prices haha. 💩
I got my veneer sheets off eBay. They do snap, it’s just learning how to blend them in. I’ve switched to using adhesive backed abalone now which is much easier. There’s a brand called Incudo whose veneer sheets are amazing. Start with eBay or amazon
Beautiful craftsmanship!! I am a pen turner trying to inlay abalone. The sheet a have looks very much like yours. However when I try and cut a thin piece, I.e. 5mm wide, it snaps and breaks...it will not bend even a little. I then try and piecemeal small 5mm straight pieces onto the round surface....just about impossible!! Any suggestions??
Greetings from the US! 1st of all, love your videos. Hope to see more from you soon. 2nd, my friend and I are musicians and he is getting married soon and his wife asked me to make a ring for him. I'm kind of basing my design off of yours, but had a question about the abalone. The only ones I can find have an adhesive back on it and they're kind of thick. I also have one that's really thin but it's really fragile and breaks very easily. Do you have any recommendations on where I can get good abalone shell sheets? Thanks!
I’ve actually got a technique now where the strings are seamless. There is a small join on the wood but on dark woods like ebony these can be blended nicely. As for the abalone I have a totally different technique for that now too. Basically the joint end looks similar to the front.
Excellent Vid, Yes many of these types of videos are similar but it's not just about that otherwise after the first tutorial was posted that would be it, I watch as many as I can on whatever I'm learning as there's usually something different ie method, materials etc in each one, Anyway classy piece and beautifully finished, Liked an subbed ;0)
Question, if I may - what are the sanding cloths you use for your final finish? They look like they give a better feel/control than the micromesh pads. Great ring! Do you CA the inside of your ring as well? Thanks! Keep those videos coming!
I use lots of different kinds of strings. Acoustic, electric guitar or sometimes other instruments. I either get them from guitar shops or customers supply them.
Dude, i follow your instagram and appreciatte a lot to see your rings production!! Congrats man!! On this video would you tell me whats the white liquid stuff you used for the final polishing ??? Tks a lot in advance for your videos, really helped on my jewelry business !!
I really enjoy your videos! I was wondering how you keep the wood from being glued to your form when you’re using CA and wrapping the wood around the socket? Thanks!
Joe Williams that’s just practice man (and I still stick my rings to sockets sometimes!). Just don’t use too much glue is all I can suggest really. You can try turning your own formers with a non stick material like ptfe/hdpe if you have a lathe. Tbh though it’s all just practice 👊🏽
The cream after polishing the CA is a buffing compound similar to T-Cut. I use Macguires but there are many burnishing creams specific to wood turning. I hope this helps, if you can't find any then head to a local automotive store and get some T-Cut, it works great!
Great looking ring! I've been making rings for a little bit with my drill press as a lathe, how did you make your ring mandrel or where did you find it? Would be a great tool!
Ricardo Guinto sure thing! I’m using a Charnwood W815. Pretty basic but has been a good workhorse for last 2 years! Are you thinking of getting a lathe??
Zebrano Wood Craft yes indeed i am! Im looking at the wen 3420 as it's only $150 BUT since im in the philippines, taxes and shipping cost literally more than the lathe itself and all in all, I'd be spending like around $300-400
Zebrano Wood Craft wow i never expected you to reply so fast! You literally inspired me to do bentwood rings and I just started selling like a month ago and i figured i need a lathe if i were to expand my design capabilities such as inlaying and the likes
you can also do more intricate inlays with a file and even possibly a dremel to inlay. with a lathe you make a groove all the way around the ring. I have been experimenting with a file and make diagonal inlays, and it looks really cool
Beautiful ring! I know where to get the timber, however you couldn't give me an idea where to get the abalone shell, please? My brothers birthday in 6 weeks and I'll need time to order it? I'm from Australia and I don't know if your ring sizes are the same, do you know??? Cheers Sean
nice vid bro. Did you also put CA on the inside of the ring ? otherwise wetsanding isnt the best way i experienced that the wood soak it up and expanded. what i do is i imprignate the wood fully with superthin CA this way water cant penetrate, its so thin that is will drip trough the whole ring. but anyway the result is super :D.
Thank you! Yes I coat every surface of the ring with finish and I’ve found this provides excellent protection! I saw a friend of mine on the weekend who has been wearing a ring I made her 3 years ago and it still looks great!
Decazi Rings I tried the uv gel from a nail salon on a pen that I made & cured it. It won't last more than a couple of weeks. I did find a product that lasts, I think, for years. I use Alumalite epoxy for some or my projects; but they also have a product called Alumi-UV. Also cured by uv light, but it is as hard as a construction hard hat. I don't recall how long they claim it will last. I tried it and it works. After seeing this video ( and one by Patrick Adair) I think I'll try making a ring.
Brian Saban thank you! Yes I realise the prices aren’t cheap but it’s still towards the middle/average price range for a high quality and intricate wooden ring. These are my “high ticket” items and take a whole day to make and the prices reflect both my time and business expenses (materials/workshop rental/bills etc). Man, that's beautiful. Serious talent.
Absolutely love the guitar strings. I have loads ... never threw them away .. .now I know why :-)
Stunning. Thanks so much for sharing
beautiful ring
Wow, very nice !
Beautifully finished ring!!
Dude.. that's amazing
Beautiful ring!!
Thank you for demonstrating that you can do multilayered rings.
Absolutely gorgeous man!! Real craftsmanship!!!
Beautiful, and surprisingly elegant!
From start to finish spot on now off to get a lathe looks like I will need deep pockets cheers mate.
you can make them with a drill.... you don't need a lathe. : )
Really nice, you and Patrick Adair both have an amazing imagination and a talent for making your ideas reality. Thanks
Thank you again man, I focus more on organic materials and I have many more projects to come so hopefully I can carve a name and an identity for myself. Thank you for watching!
fallen in love this work! found out that my local specialty wood store has free samples of veneer. got so many projects to try!
Do it! Have a go at making bent wood bangles too :)

Another great idea and excellent execution ... FINISHED IT!
Brilliant touch with the guitar string inlay.
Its really intricate and beautiful!!

I hope I can do this for myself
Roman Craftchenko yep, cause getting it is waaay out of my wage
Where can I get that wood arbor with different size diameter on which I can work the ring ?

Nice done ! Love your Channel....a question where can I find wood veneer ?
How do you bend the narrow abalone strip without it breaking or snapping?? Where do you purchase your sheets of abalone??
I got my veneer sheets off eBay. They do snap, it’s just learning how to blend them in.

No problem. The finish is CA glue or superglue.
Nice ring, good instructions also!
Where do you get the Abalone sheet?
Thank you! I get the Abalone sheet from a vendor on EBay

Excellent, thank you that's great feedback! Good luck with your ring making endeavours!
Do you wear breathing apparatus when you’re spraying the accelerator? If so what kind? Cheers pal, really like your work and videos!
Hi mate yes definitely wear a respirator with suitable chemical filters and work in a well ventilated area!
Zebrano Wood Craft thanks for responding mate! I wasn’t sure if you were sitting there absolute out of your nut on the fumes or not!
Question, if I may - what are the sanding cloths you use for your final finish? They look like they give a better feel/control than the micromesh pads. Great ring! Do you CA the inside of your ring as well? Thanks! Keep those videos coming!

Good video! Where did you get your abalone laminate sheet? Its so pretty!
Haha thank you. I got it from a vendor on Ebay - it's Paua Abalone and looks amazing!
what was the cream you used for the finish?
Brandon Ruth that’s a burnishing cream. I use Chestnut Products burnishing cream but you can use car polishing compound like TCut or Macguires.
This is awesome, and super inspiring. Question though. How do you size the wooden rings?
That's the secret sauce right there!
Can I use a Mini Metal Lathe 7" X 14" for the wood turning as well as any Metal I may
use for Rings?
Probably yes!
Thanks I thought Yes also -this way I could turn a metal core of Stainless Steel and wooden outer shell with silver Inlays.
What is activator spray ? Do you have a link to where it can be purchased? Thank you 😊
CA glue is activated by humidity. so you can use water spray for fast reaction or steam
Arnnery & Serial-f thank you 😊
Dude, i follow your instagram and appreciatte a lot to see your rings production!! Congrats man!! On this video would you tell me whats the white liquid stuff you used for the final polishing ??? Tks a lot in advance for your videos, really helped on my jewelry business !!
Bruno Hempel burnishing cream from Chestnut products is the best.

Do you have a link to a spindle that you trust?? I don't know much about these tools. I wan't to get into making rings and am willing to invest.
I turned my wooden one on the lathe or you can get expanding mandrels from Patrick Adair’s website

Hey dude sorry for the late reply. Try Amazon or Ebay as you can normally pick up bundles really cheap!
@@ZebranoWoodCraft cheers dude, will do!
Which CA or glues in general do you use? nice ring!
I use a medium thickness CA. I think Locktite is a good start :). Thanks for checking out the video!
Great looking ring! I've been making rings for a little bit with my drill press as a lathe, how did you make your ring mandrel or where did you find it? Would be a great tool!
Cheers! I made the spindle/mandrel by turning a piece of mahogany between centers on the wood lathe. Very easy to do man!
I think u can make abalone bendy with the same method as the wood... give it a go
Huh I wondered if you could, thanks man I’ll give it a try!
Awesome ring, man! Which grits of sandpaper do you use once you've applied your CA finish?
Haha a lot of grits. Usually from 400-12,000
@@ZebranoWoodCraft I thought it only went to 2,000, lol no wonder I don't get your super shiny finish.
Is ca glue just super glue
yes
Oh right ok thank you 😊
Beautiful! I love it. What string gauge did you use? Maybe a wounded 3d string? Cause I reckon it's not the low E. xD
Yes that's a D-string I believe :)
