- I made a lot of mistakes when I started out collecting, and that's largely because I didn't have a plan. If I had it to do over, what would I do differently? Which games would I start with, for which systems? If you're looking to build a collection of JRPGs, let me walk you through the best consoles for JRPGs and a selection of excellent games to start with, from the PlayStation 4 onward. If you like this and would like to see me tackle older consoles as well, let me know down in the comments.

If Vita was allowed in the "modern consoles" club, the omission of the 3ds is really unfair. I would argue that it's easily a better JRPG machine than the Vita. All Vita's got going for it are Persona 4,Tales of Hearts R, Trails series, and a bunch of niche and lesser known stuff. Plus, most of it is playable on Switch with better graphics/performance. Meanwhile, the 3ds has an almost endless list of exclusives: three excellent Fire Emblem titles, Bravely Default and Second, Radiant Historia, FIVE Etrian Odyssey games, SIX Shin Megami Tensei games, Persona Q and Q2, complete remake of Dragon Quest VII, arguably the definitive version of Dragon Quest VIII, Alliance Alive, Mario and Luigi series, Pokemon series...
True! It just missed the date cutoff. The next one of these I do will go further back and it'll be included there. The date was kinda arbitrary, but I picked it so I decided I needed to stick with it. 😅
@@JustTheGemsbut if 2012 was the cutoff, where is the Wii U then?
@@thohilleslandthere are, like, 2 jrpgs on the WiiU.
What would be the point in even talking about it?
@@linkvagar2336 Yes, for the Wii U itself there is only like 2 jrpgs worth anything, however the Wii U is also backwards compatible with the Wii, meaning you also get to play all the Wii jrpgs which there are quite a number of. Xenoblade Chronicles, Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn, the Last Story, Arc Rise Phantasia, Chocobo's Dungeon, Super Paper Mario, Dokapon Kingdom, Opoona, Frigile Dreams ect..
Also, since he talked about modding, the Wii U is a beast when modded. You get to play everything N64, PS1 and earlier + GameCube, Wii, GBA, PSP and DS. That is an insane amount of games, and something none of the other consoles can do.
I am not saying the Wii U is great for jrpgs, however i am just saying it should at least have been mentioned.
@@thohillesland My bad, I had it in my head that it came out in 2011. I'll make mention of it in the next one of these.
Cool list! I unapologetically love my Xbox Series X, and choose to play any and all RPGs that come out there first. But as stated, it misses a good many, which saddens me and hopefully the future will change in that regard.
I'm wondering, as Microsoft seems to be moving towards more of a service model anyway, if they can just make it very easy for JRPG publishers to put their games on the platform. Minimal porting effort and low royalties would probably convince most of them that it's worthwhile for those games to be available on Xbox.
This is such a fantastic video and amazing reference! Seriously, great job on this one!!!
Thanks Paige, that means a lot!
And this is why I love the Nintendo Switch so much, it's an absolute juggernaut when it comes to JRPG selection!
It's frankly pretty insane how many there are. And so many great ones, too
Holy crap upper nimbus?????
@@toolman4745 That's me! 😏
This was a fun video, I'd love to see you go backwards through the generations!
I think maybe I will!
Great video! Also worth adding for the Vita section that there are many JRPG fan translations out there for the Vita such as Tales of Innocence R and all the Trails Evolution ports (and the best way to play the Sky trilogy in lieu of an official rerelease).
Thanks Milla! And you're 100% right, if you're going to jailbreak your Vita, there are a ton of options like those that people into JRPGs need to check out
A part 2 about older consoles would be great. Nice video!
I agree. Coming soon! Thank you!!
Would definitely like another video around retro retro consoles. I've thought about this a few times. I'm at the start of my collection obsession and prioritising consoles around JRPG availability. So essentially what I'm saying is that it would be good if you done the hard work for me 😂
Haha for sure! I'll definitely work on one of these for older generations.
I feel like you definitely should have brought up the Xbox backwards compatibility here. Most of the xbox 360 jrpgs are also playable on both the xbox one and series consoles. This includes Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, all 3 FF13 games and Infinite Undiscovery. Non of which are available on modern platforms trough any other way, making them effectively exclusives for the Xbox one/series consoles
Also the Wii U came out after 2012, so that probably should have been mentioned as well.
Yeah, you're right on both counts. For the Wii U, I just completely brainfarted and thought it came out in 2011. So I'll be sure to mention it in the next one of these I do.
Agree with your must have games. I love my Switch and Steam deck to get all my JRPGS. I have PS4 and Vita. I haven't used them for awhile.
Switch + Steam Deck is an excellent way to go.
Switch is perfect for jrpgs imo. They're usually pretty long games, like Persona, and the ability to take them on the go is super useful.
Yeah absolutely, the fact you can take ANY Switch game on the road is insane.
You have a lot of great picks and I enjoyed seeing a lot of love for Persona, Trails, Ys, Bravely Default II, and Experience's dungeon crawlers. A few more I'd suggest getting for the Switch that are both great and really affordable are Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne HD Remaster (you can get this new for $20), Shin Megami Tensei V (also new for $20 - though move fast if you want this cheap, Atlus is just trying to sell all of these copies before SMT V: Vengeance is released), and Sega Genesis Classics (you can get this new for $30 and it contains classic JRPGs and JRPG-adjacent action-adventure games like Phantasy Star II, III, & IV, Shining Force I & II, Shining in the Darkness, Sword of Vermillion, Fatal Labyrinth, Light Crusader, Beyond Oasis, and Landstalker).
Right now my modern gaming is split between a Switch, a PS5, and a PC, this seems to be working out very well for the time being. I didn't own a PS4, so having a PS5 has allowed me to explore the PS4 library as well. While the downside to PC gaming these days is that physical releases are so rare that they are almost unheard of, one area where it has an advantage over consoles is in access to indie games that are only available on PC or that are currently on PC but may take a few years to come to consoles. There are many indie JRPGs that are currently unavailable on consoles and some that will likely never come to consoles. As someone who is a staff member of an indie games channel, having a PC is necessary to cover indie games upon release.
I think I remember recommending the Fear & Hunger series to you because they are a hybrid of JRPG dungeon crawler and survival horror. Those games are amazing, but they will likely never be able to come to a console because of their extreme content and subject matter. Even with Nintendo's lax attitude on censorship these days, I highly doubt they'd be allowed on a Nintendo console because even Steam won't allow the games to show up in a search unless you turn off the adult content filter. While these aren't anything close to pornographic games, they do feature a lot of nudity in a horrific context and extreme portrayals of violence and cruelty. Console manufacturers would probably be more averse to that than they would be to something like hentai games. It's unfortunate that those who only game on consoles will probably never get to play these games. If you are into games like Sweet Home, mainline SMT, Darkest Dungeon, and difficult old-school dungeon crawlers and want something even more horrific and brutally challenging, then the Fear & Hunger games are must-plays.
Yeah, I have a Steam Deck for that very reason - there are some great indies that are just likely to never come to console. And while I love physical collecting, I love playing great games even more. 😁
Awesome video! Really nice selections. I was nintendo only for a long time and then my fiance introduced me to xbox gaming. Found a ps2 at a garage sale and that was like a big oops on my wallet haha. Keep up the good work!
Haha, oops on my wallet - I feel that in my bones! 😅
Man this was an amazing video. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s an evergreen.
Thanks! I hope it is!
Great video. Love all your stuff.
I agree the switch is the best but by a slim margin. If nothing else the portability makes it the best. But i think being that the list of titles is slightly better.
Yeah, for me, it's like, I'd be really bummed if I just didn't have access to the games that are only on Switch. So I might be willing to pay a bit more for Switch JRPGs if the Switch was my only option. There are other routes people can go with it that are also valid. But the portability is a huge component for sure.
I was going to skip the XB Series X this gen but with the disk drive you can play all your old 360 and One games and it was easier to get than the PS5 so I got it but I mostly just use it for Elder Scrolls Online and since I had XB Live from the beta on and now of course Gamepass that is pretty cool for titles I would not have bought otherwise (Pentiment, Battle Chasers, Plague Tale). I like my PS5 now that I have one but it doesn't get much use. My Switch I use a lot but crazy as it sounds the console I play the most is my modded 3DS which I play just about every day - love playing Pokemon ROM Hacks on it.
So glad I picked up Harvestella the first time I heard you talk about it quite a while back - love that game.
Oh good, I'm glad to hear you're liking Harvestella! Does my heart good. 😁
This this a pretty good list. My mate just gave me his old PS4 for my birthday a few weeks back after he bought himself a PS5 and this helped a bit, now I'm trying to remember some older games that can only be bought through the PlayStation Store that aren't found on PS5. As for some games I'd recommend on PS4/PS5 and I'm planning on getting are: both Nights Of Azure and Death and re;Quest games the Switch versions 3 of these don't run poorly sadly and other isn't on the Switch. As for JRPG's that are on Switch, where to start so many to choose from. But I'll keep it brief other then the ones mentioned which I've no arguments as whole a standout is the Crystar port which nobody seems to talk about how good it runs. My picks on Switch are: Straight up the Atelier Games I can't stress this enough both Ryza 1 and 2 look fantastic on the System and Atelier Lulua looks pretty much the same as the PS4 version, another that is slowly losing traction is Sakuna of Rice and Ruin, which is a shame I really hope a second game will come out at some point. With the mixing of the genres it had a high chance of not hitting the mark but the devs pulled it off to create something great. Can't recommend it enough.
I think Sakuna must have done better than they expected, didn't I hear it's getting an anime sometime soon? But anyway, I agree with this list as well, all solid picks.
Neat idea!
Thanks Derek!
Good video. I stopped collecting when I got a Steam Deck. I can play all my games portable now and emulate just about anything from previous generations. I still buy some Switch exclusive Physical games like Fire Emblem and Xenoblade.
Honestly, a Steam Deck for most games and a Switch for console exclusives is a pretty good way to go.
SNES, PS1, Vita, PS4, and Switch.
All excellent
Thank you for interesting video. I'm not that versed in JRPGs, but Switch is my choice for many other genres too. Also, this is purely psychological and a little circumstantial, but the idea of having physical Switch games excites me much more than having PS4 physical games. There's something magical in these tiny thin boxes with red backs. After them PS4 boxes feel somewhat bulky (despite the fact that I like blue color more than red).
I like the physicality of the Switch carts, even though they're so small. I know they're not "permanent" in the truest sense, but they feel more substantial than discs to me.
Game Pass has some decent jrpgs on it, but it's rough when one of them goes away before you had a chance to finish it
Yeah, I can imagine! That's one of the reasons I'm not on board with subscription services yet.
True, but every game that leaves Gamepass can be purchased at a discount. So if i'm that invested into one i will just buy it if it leaves.
Can you cover the couple generations prior to this (PS2/PS3 & Xbox/360)?
I may have to do that!
I think that was a fair take on each console. Tough to find many exclusives for XBox and PS5. PS4, sure, that's built up a good library by this point. But I'm not trying to wait 5 years for PS5 to have a library worth the purchase price. Plus Microsoft and Sony keep talking about how much money they make porting games to PC. Moving away from the "system seller" software development cycle to a more general release model might make them more money overall, but it does a number on brand loyalty. Why buy a PS5 when every exclusive comes to PC in 6 months?
Switch is king this generation. Nintendo needed a hit after Wii U and "New" 3DS, and boy did they get one. Right console at the right time. Probably why they've extended the life of this generation for as long as they have.
In my mind, one of the biggest weaknesses of the first three years of PS5 is almost every single game worth playing was ALSO on PS4. The incentive to upgrade just hasn't been there. (Well, not including me, I'll buy the new system Day One because I am A Chump.)
Reload for PS5 even is down to $40 rn, at least physical
Oh nice!
You should make this a series but with Retro, up to 3ds. Really do a breakdown for the best bang for buck games on each console starting with NES. Not the most expensive or grail games, just best for players.
Yeah, I'm wondering if maybe I should do one for retro in general, and maybe one that's handheld specific? I have to give it some thought. I don't want it to be like three hours...😅
I'm a turn-based / strategy guy. For me it's the Switch all the way. Like you said though, damn can you pick up some great games on the cheap for the PS4.
Bonus points for the "little boots" reference at the end well.
This is a pretty solid list. I generally think of the PS4 as a recommendation at first thought given that many of the cross titles between the PS4 and Switch are cheaper on the PS4, and performance can be better (though there are exceptions to the cheaper and performs better). Then there is factor of whether a person is going to want play on the couch or wants portability. If portability is a factor, then the Switch wins hands down. I don't think one can go wrong with either one, and if you can have both, you will have more then enough to play for multiple life times (oh... if being a Time Lord was a thing....).
Oh absolutely. I'm super grateful that I'm able to have both (as well as some PC-only games, and a bunch of retro stuff). It's great having a library of games to peruse.
When I've played a JRPG on XBOX I feel like I shouldn't be doing it haha. But they have Lost Oddysey which is 10/10.
I used to play my JRPGs on PS4/PS5 and Nintendo Switch, but now everything is with the Steam Deck!
Loved Lost Oddysey!
Yeah, for a bit it seemed like Microsoft was gonna be a contender in the JRPG market. And unfortunately... It just kinda stopped. 😓
Going to say it now. Do additional videos on the PS1 and onward
I'm putting it on the list! 😎
Back when I was a study-only student I would agonize endlessly over which console to buy, because I would be comitted to it unless I saved up my allowance for months on end. Almost bought a 360 thanks to Star Ocean and Vesperia.
FYI Tales of Innocence R is also available for the Vita and it has an english patch now, I was able to get a copy for about 20usd shipping included
I need to look into doing that, I regret not having gotten to play that one yet (and it's one of the few I don't own, even as far as Japanese only goes)
The process was a huge pain but Tales Of is worth it
I would recommend getting first gen ps3 with hardware backward compability and swapped cpu [from 90nm to 40nm to make it future proof]. That will give you access to ps1, ps2 and ps3 games.
Oh interesting. I have the first gen PS3, but I hadn't heard about swapping the CPU. I'll have to look into that.
@@JustTheGems It's called frankenstein mod, there is a couple of people around the world who can do that, it is worth doing only on CECHAxx/CECHBxx imho. Usually it's done with couple other mods to mainboard too, like voltage mod, delidding cpu and rsx etc.
This vid was another reminder that the only game on my psvita is Persona 4 Golden, maybe that'll eventually change. If a game is on the switch and ps4/5 then I always opt for the playstation but I agree with you that if I had to pick one it would be the switch. Both consoles have come along way since early days. Only Switch game I played for 2017+2018 was Xenoblade 2 and I think for 2017-2019 I had played around 5 ps4 games including persona 5 and not finishing ff15 (sorry). I was surprised to see how many games are digital only these days though, sheesh.
SO many are starting to go digital only. It feels like the end of an era.
@@JustTheGems First manuals, then games, next up is digital only consoles. Can't wait!
“Was that a bad use of money? … Yes” 😂
I was surprised to see Bloodborne on the list for all the reasons you mentioned.
It would be cool if you made a couple more videos like this one for other generations. 🤔
Bloodborne is one of those games I felt was a waste of money - I HATE playing games where you have to learn how to beat each boss, repeating the same battles over and over is not my thing and when you have hand arthritis - it's just painful and takes all joy out of the game.
Yeah, I think the response to this video suggests I should hit the older generations as well.
Owner and a huge fan of the Nintendo switch. I prefer it over the last 4 to 5 years now because of its library. I agree, the PS5 has some great exclusives as far as Final fantasies go but it's not there yet for the $500 price point
Right, I feel like they're going to be hard-pressed to make the PS5 really feel like it was "worth" all that cost. I mean, I love it personally, but for most people it's just not enough games.
For me I pick the Switch if I’m playing a port of an older game or a Switch exclusive. Otherwise I typically lean towards the PlayStation because it’s more powerful and I don’t have to deal with the downgrade in graphics. An example of this is Ys 8. While it runs perfectly fine on Switch it doesn’t look nearly as nice on the tv when played in docked mode. Anyway thanks for another great video!
Very true, this is what I do for the most part too
Brother, don’t regret buying your collection. We are very similar. Men in their late thirties early forties who love video games, make good money, and have the ability to buy the games we want even if we still have em wrapped lol. If we take care of our responsibilities and kids then why in the hell should we regret buying what we love after working how we work?
I know what you mean about Xbox, but it also has backwards compatibility with games like Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon as exclusives and the numbers you show are probably more JRPG's than classic consoles for JRPG's, just nowhere near as much Switch/PS4/PS5
Very true! I should have highlighted the backwards compatibility more, because there are some real bangers on the 360 in particular.
The Switch is my favorite so I do agree with your conclusion but I don't feel you gave the PS5 or Xbox series X their full credit.
The PS5 being backwards compatible but also giving up grades to many titles really enhances its library. Also with the Portal you can still get that handheld experience (although admittedly with its own list of drawbacks).
The Xbox doesn't have the same great library of RPGs to pull from but it is backwards compatible with some Xbox 360 and original Xbox titles. I can play Blue Dragon, Jade Empire and Lost Odyssey all on the series X. Another thing to keep in mind for the Xbox is how easy and cheap collecting for it is right now.
Anyway, I really enjoyed the video! It's interesting to think about how I would approach collecting if I were to start over.
Good points! It's really easy and inexpensive to collect for Xbox now. And as a Portal owner myself, I agree that adds a lot of value to the PS5 experience.
I have the Tales of Arise, is it that good to be on multiple list? I haven't played it yet and with a limited time to play games. Would love to hear your take on it.
I think so, but I will say, I think you'll know within the first couple hours if it's going to be up your alley. So I'd say give it a try at the very least.
@@JustTheGems My current line up is FF 7 remake, Like a Dragon and Arise which one do you think should come first to maximize and optimize fun lol. Btw, thanks for the reply love your Trails of Cold Steel video... Keep it up, dude!
@@user-ev3jb2xg5w I'd prioritize FF7 Remake personally. Then Arise. (But I haven't played Like a Dragon yet, so take that with a grain of salt.)
I just want to point out that video footage for octopath traveler on ps5 is that of octopath traveler 2... So it should have had the "2" in the name.
Oh good catch, my bad!
oooof for me it’s the PS2 or the Switch for best JRPG catalog. If the Switch ever gets a physical retail Kingdom Hearts collection (that isn’t the janky cloud based version we currently have) the. the Switch just might take the crown, but then again Tales of the Abyss and Tales of Destiny Directors Cut are still stuck on the PS2 (as the optimum way to play the games)
So I just talked myself out of it 😂 PS2
The PS4 is a fantastic shout though, A+ catalog
If/when I look at older consoles, you can pretty much bet (spoiler warning) that PS2 will win. But I'm still going to try and be diligent about it and back it up.
Love the Tales games on the PS2.
I agree. I only bought PS consoles my whole life until 2022 when I bought a Switch. I’ll never go back to PS now, unless it’s to play a PS1 or 2 game. The Switch RPG library is unbelievable.
@@JustTheGems 100% the funny thing is like, technically… my favourite console would be a modded backwards compatibility PS3 😅😅 but like just on library man… PS2 was magic.
@@Raphtor13 So good!!! I was so happy when we got the english translation patch for Tales of Destiny Directors Cut
I love collecting rpgs on The vita. Also you forgot that there's another tales game on it but it's a japan exclusive. It's Tales of Innonce R
I love the vita
@@thatguy00271 me too it's so awesome
True, and if you jailbreak you can get a translation patch for that game
That’s why you shouldn’t comment before watching the entire video lol. You don’t regret having your collection you just regret falling victim to FOMO and impatience and spending a lot more money than what we could have. I get you but in the end we can’t change it so let’s just enjoy our hobby so long as it’s done responsibly
Oh for sure, I'm gonna enjoy the HECK out of this stuff! 😄
HEY, HEY, HEY, FIRES?!?! Mention the Vita, but not the 3DS???
Deeply sad now, I wanted to see Etrian Odyssey (also on the Switch), Radiant Historia Perfect Chronology, Stella Glow, Paper Mario Sticker Star, the Mario and Luigi RPG's, Dragon Quest 7 and 8, and so many more... I love the 3DS most of all consoles.
And on the Switch I would have liked to see Golden Sun 1&2, although not collectable.
That'll be in the next one, since it came out in 2011!
imo for collecting Switch is better but if you are really actually playing the games then id go for the PS4 games performance is what matters
Yeah, I go back and forth. I couldn't give up the Nintendo exclusives, and since they have more JRPG exclusives than Sony does (in terms of first party anyway), I think that's the biggest reason I lean that way now.
GIVE ME THE THREE HOUR LONG EPIC!!! This I command!
Oh man... I guess I'll have to
I LOVE Bloodborne! Such a masterpiece! For most of my life I've been a playstation kid, just because I didn't care to play mario or zelda games. Nowadays though, I mainly just play on PC, most new games get ported to there anyways, and indie games cant always afford to be ported to consoles. Plus I'm always at my computer anyways. Still own my playstations though.
Yeah, if you don't have the physical collecting bug, there's a STRONG argument to be made that PC is the best place to play.
@@JustTheGemsYeah, I dont have the physical collection bug, but I am glad others do. I fully expect companies to try to take away ownership of digital games after a time, and Game Pass is spearheading the way.
@@Morraak I'd be ok if we could legitimately have even digital ownership, but we've seen that is hard to come by, too, unfortunately.
It’s Switch if you prefer physical games and Steam Deck if you prefer digital.
Truer words could never be spoken.
I am once again here to say that 13 Sentinels is not an rpg. I say this as a bonafide jrpg guy, and 13 Sentinels is still in my top 3 games of all time regardless. Trying to fit this game into an rpg box is doing it a huge disservice.
I'd call it a visual novel with strategy gameplay. I think people tend to throw it in the RPG box because it's CLOSE and easier than trying to explain the nuance for the uninitiated 😅
@@JustTheGems As someone who also actually plays visual novels here and there, the story portions of 13 Sentinels DEFINITELY are not like visual novels. It is far more in line with old school "adventure" games.
But I think that the only reason people try to call it a jrpg is because it has an anime aesthetic.
@@zankudragon Yeah fair enough, maybe "visual novel" is starting to become like "walking simulator" was for awhile, as a way to describe a game without traditional gameplay that's found in other genres. It's from that side-on view like classic adventure games, so I can see it from that angle, but it's not really puzzle-based, so it's tough. I think I'd describe it myself as a "story-focused strategy" game.
Honestly, I only buy exclusives like the xenoblade games on the switch. The other games are bought for the PS4/ps5
because they look and run better and on top of that they are cheaper.
That's honestly been my strategy for the most part, too. If I HAD to only have one console, though, I'd have to go with Switch, just because of the exclusives (and because at least I'd have SOME version of most everything else, even if it's not the best).
@@JustTheGems Very difficult choice. But if I was forced to chose one I would go with the Ps5 (ff7 remake& rebirth, FF15, Tales of Berseria, Tales of Arise, Cold Steel 1&2) rather than the Switch (Xenoblade games and Harvestella) .
I know it's not physical but you can play earthbound on the switch so...it's the switch for me lol
Absolutely! Any place you can play Earthbound is a good place to be.
Crazy to think CS1 is more expensive on PS4 than Vita....
The PS1 was a treasure trove of RPGs.
SO many, it was like a second golden era.
The ps5 and xbox series over the ds or vita? They have far more jrpgs on them than a ps5.
Well, the DS is too old (as is the 3DS) to be in this video. But it's got a fantastic selection, absolutely.
I would have much preferred a sentence or two talking about each game instead of just a sizzle reel of games I could easily get from anywhere else.
I'm here for your opinion Brandon, not just equivalent of a top 10 Google search.
I get that and can appreciate that, but the focus this time was on consoles, so I decided to focus the commentary there.
Dragon quest looks just as good if not better on Xbox series X plus with backwards compatibility back to the OG Xbox you can have a great library. Really irks me how dismissive people are, achievements alone makes it a great place to play. You couldn’t make 10 even though your ps5 list had games also on Xbox you didn’t use. I don’t know, you just seem to have some bias there
I promise, I really did try to give Xbox a strong showing. I don't care about console wars at all, I think they're the worst. Everyone should just play games, and I think every person should have access to all games, regardless of what platform they're on. I'm critical of Xbox because of the decisions that Microsoft has made with the platform. It deserves better treatment when it comes to JRPGs.
(And if I missed some Series X games that were on other lists, that's my bad. My system wasn't exactly scientific, it was mostly looking through my price charting lists of JRPGs, so it's not shocking to me if I missed a couple).
That xbox one section is at sad. Where's the lost odyssey remake, xbox?
That would be KILLER
You go were the jrpgs are...and that ain't X BOX!
It's true, unfortunately. I wish they were better represented there, but Microsoft has kind of chosen their path it seems.
PC
Oh for playing, absolutely! Collecting for PC is a bit harder though. Unless you're exclusively into big-box PC games (I know Metal Jesus has a really impressive collection of those)
3DS should've been included here...
No, didn't it come out in 2011?
Last month Sony came out with the news that the PS5 was entering the later stage of it's life cycle, just thought u might want to know
Yeah, I'm hoping they mean "latter half," because then it would be a seven year lifespan, which at least isn't terrible.
So……Pc is pretty much the way to go (if you don’t care about physical)
Honestly? Yeah, kinda. Basically everything hits PC, plus a ton you can only get there.
For me it's the Ps5 because i can have all of the Final Fantasy games on one console ❤
Yeah, any console that gives me full access to the best series is going to be high on my list.
You have also the Atelier Ryza Trilogy, Death End Request 1n 2 and .Hack GU Last Recode on Ps4 so many great RPG's on ps4
Very true! Haven't played those yet (but I do have them on the shelf so I'll be able to eventually)
Xbox is trash for JRPGs. They had a couple of exclusives during the 360 era, but Xbox leadership (at the time) decided that Xbox Japan had to be in lockstep with the western arm of Xbox, but Sony money hatting became the defacto excuse for Xbox failing in Japan. And the only reason why the Persona seriex is on Xbox is because of the huge MScheck that Sega is getting from MS. I saw a video claiming that P5R was a huge success on Xbox, but i find that GP Ultimate subscribers will download a ton of games out of fomo & will never play half of those games before they are pulled from GP. My Xbox is for 1st party games only. The games that i want to play will be on Switch, PS, or Steam.
That's a good point, are they counting Gamepass downloads as "sales" (in a sense)? Because that metric would be... misleading at least.
@JustTheGems With GP, I think they are counting downloads as 'active players'. I finished P5R on Series X. When I looked at the achievements, I think only 15% of players even completed the 2nd palace. That means that people are downloading games because they're on GP, but not even playing. Idk if Sega gets one check or a check to put the game on GP + a 'per download' fee.
Psvita sadly 90% of the games are on ps4! I loved the thing! Oh and Sony crying we cant spend that kind of money on buying companies but goes and spends millions on failed R&D projects that come out like ps move, psVR 1 & 2 ect!
Bought my Vita a launch...actually pre-ordered it and wanted it so much I literally had dreams about it. Still have it as well as my PSP - played the heck out of both of them.
Right! The Vita deserved a ton of more content made for it.
I am done with Xbox and Phil Spencer!! He has not only sold out fans. He has ruined whatever future it has now. Given there is no reason to invest in it now. PC is looking like a good time to return.
Star Citizen is looking incredible now & finally looking like a game worth it's time and investment. Sony is obviously going to benift aquiring XBox First party exclusives. While cold day in hell they ever do the same for Xbox lol.
No way in hell Xbox is selling 100 million subscribers by it's due date. MSoft will likely cut its loses and exit the console market. Which means less competition and choice where no one benefits.
Do you think they'll just focus on subscription services on other platforms? That's my prediction anyway.
we all know the real answer is SNES, change my mind
Haha yes! I'll get to that eventually! 😁
Here is your daily reminder that if "JRPG" is a genre, then Bloodborne and Dark Souls are not JRPGs 😉
Fair enough. I'm the one trumpeting the "JRPG is its own genre" thing, then I should adhere to it. Lashing received and appreciated. 👍
