      We had just started kayaking this year because our daughter had gone kayaking at a camp several years ago. She loved it so much that she has been talking about it since then. We finally had the opportunity to buy some at a great deal and we were hooked! We absolutely love it and have a great time whenever we are able to take them out! Thanks for watching!

      Thanks for watching and posting! That is so cool that you are going to take it on a river trip. We love ours and have taken it out on several lakes so far and haven't had any problems. It's a dream to paddle! Have fun on your trip!

      How did you find the Blackfoot on the river?
      And have you had any need to use the self-bailing valves, do they work well?

      @@gordonthomson7533 I have used this kayak a few times now on multiple rivers, springs, and bays. Personally the self bailing valve let's in more water than anything. I do use it when I am taking the kayak out and it drains quickly but not while sitting in the water. I had a problem with the bag it goes in ripping, called the company and they immediately replaced it! As for the kayak it is VERY durable and even the people we kayak with are now considering buying one. You can easily stand in it and it is very sturdy. I would purchase this again! We did 2 trips up river and it was fine it also hold straight in the water. Our griends had a much cheaper inflatable and they struggled.

      @@Ryder-p3m thanks - that was a super fast response!
      Our options are:
      1. Blackfoot 160
      2. Chelan 155
      3. Sea Eagle 420x
      (The Sea Eagle FastTrack is ruled out because it's tubes are just way too low for our comfort re taking on water)
      I know the Sea Eagle 420x bailing valves work well - there are 16 of them (!) vs. the Blackfoot's 4 and the Chelan's 6. I did suspect the lower numbers on the Aquaglide products would fall on the wrong side of the balance.
      The Sea Eagle 420x is safe on pretty much any water condition anyone would consider throwing it (white water and open sea)
      The only concern we have with the Sea Eagle 420x is that it might not track as well as the Aquaglide products on relatively smooth open water.
      You don't happen to know anyone who bought a Sea Eagle Explorer and regretted it?

      @@gordonthomson7533 I do not know anyone that has one. Our friends that have theirs definitely noticed a huge difference between ours. I feel extremely safe and love to have multiple seat heights. On calm waters we always sit high but I would also feel comfortable in rougher waters in a lower position. It is pretty wide (I believe 40 inches) which is 1 of the widest in the industry

      Thanks for watching! I (Tracey) do most of the paddling by myself and it is extremely easy to paddle. I can paddle from either the front or the back. Matt does a lot of filming so he doesn't normally paddle, he also has an injured shoulder that gives him some problems which is why he doesn't paddle a lot. I absolutely love it!

    Awesome video, can u stand up on it and cast for fishing?

    • @the.great.adventurers
      @the.great.adventurers  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for watching and posting! If you have great balance then yes you can stand up and cast. Matt has cat-like balance and could cast a fishing pole, if we fished. He actually did stand up to see if you could stand, he even stepped over one of the chairs while we were in the middle of the lake and flipped the chair in the other direction so we were facing each other. I tried standing but got too nervous and didn’t want to stand all the way up. So it really depends on the person, not the boat! Hope that helps you out!

    Possible to paddle solo and still be enjoyable? I bought my first inflatable for less than $100 just to see if I would like it... Needless to say the cheap inflatable is a pig while fighting the wind and tide currents of the South Florida canals. My friends inflatable SUP is twice as fast. Is the 16 footer too much for one person??

    • @the.great.adventurers
      @the.great.adventurers  3 роки тому

      Thanks for watching and posting! We also started with a smaller inflatable just to try it out, and loved it. However we found out later we weren’t putting enough air in it because we had a cheap pump and the gauge was wrong. When we got this one we were amazed at the difference! It had much more room, it has flat floor, it’s more sturdy, and it actually is much easier to steer. My husband has recently hurt his shoulder so he can’t really paddle so I do all the paddling and it is easier than the smaller boat.
      Now, here’s where you might run into problems with only one person. Hauling it to the water, launching it, and bringing it back up on shore. You will definitely need a C-Tug, we have a video on that, it is a little wheel cart to roll your boat to the water. My husband has been looking at Aquaglides SUP as well and it’s the same length as this boat. If you’ve good balance you may really like the SUP but you would still want the C-Tug to make life easier! Hope all that helped!

      My son and I have a few... 8, 10, 13, and now 16 footer. When we took it out this weekend I do all the paddling and he just spots fish and dolphins lol he can paddle but I am also capable of doing it myself. I am a 36 year old female and have no problem with this big boat!

    What paddle length you used there and isn’t it a bit too short. Seems a bit too short ?

    • @the.great.adventurers
      @the.great.adventurers  2 роки тому +1

      The length depends on how tall or short you are. We use our chairs in the highest position and the paddles are fine for me because I’m 5’3” and anything longer would be too much for me to handle. So it really is a matter of preference. Thanks for posting!

    Why did you go for the Blackfoot 160 rather than the Chelan 155?
    We can't decide!

    • @the.great.adventurers
      @the.great.adventurers  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for watching and posting! The Blackfoot was wider, longer and had a flat bottom where you sit. There will normally always be the two of us so we wanted a little extra space. Hope that helped you guys out!

      @gordonthomson7533 2 роки тому +1

      @@the.great.adventurers Hey thanks for the fast reply!
      I guess you don't feel the extra width is a bad thing, then? I mean it doesn't get too much in the way of paddling and you find it tracks well on open water?)
      I think we're going to opt for the Blackfoot too, just mainly because of the raised bow and stern (the Chelan looks like the bow would smash through any little waves rather than ride over them...but that's probably just my imagination..!)

    • @the.great.adventurers
      @the.great.adventurers  2 роки тому +1

      The width isn’t bad if you are not doing power kayaking! Meaning you aren’t going gang busters. You will have to watch not letting your oars rest on the boat while you are paddling. We noticed that the two Scotty mounts on the sides where you row, the paddles can knock your drink holders off when there are two of us in the boat. The length of the boat glides over the water, it is so awesome! It’s almost like a speed boat going over the water when you start paddling fast! The turning radius is what you would expect. If you need to turn around quickly, we find it easier and faster to just go backwards.

      @@the.great.adventurers Alright! Another great reply - thanks!!
      Last question...self bailing valves...
      We are likely to find ourselves in the occasional surf or whitewater in between calmer portions of our trips. We've been keen on the self-bailing features as a peace of mind option to let us keep going (albeit a wet deck option)...
      The Sea Eagle Explorer has 16 such valves (!!) While the Chelan has 6 and the Blackfoot only 4 (now and stern ones are too high up to count!).
      From your videos I don't think you've needed to use these but I don't want to assume...have you tried them in whitewater, swamping the deck and allowing it to self-bail? I'm just concerned 4 is insufficient....

    • @the.great.adventurers
      @the.great.adventurers  2 роки тому

      Thanks again for posting! You called it on the white water, we haven’t made it to any intense white water. The only thing that we did that was close was on a bigger lake where speed boats flew across it and we cut across their wakes. I have seen a few videos on Aquaglide ambassadors for the Blackfoot who took it out on some serious white water rafting and they had some great footage. You can actually find it here on UA-cam, I don’t remember the name of it but I am guessing if you type in Aquaglide Blackfoot and white water rafting you may be able to find it! Hope that helps you guys out. BTW we are hoping to do some white water rafting this summer, we’re really excited to try it out!
