During the shooting of this video there was a pneumatic drill breaking up the road outside the shop. I thought my mic wouldn't pick it up but it actually picked it up as clear as day. Thankfully I was wearing a mask and was able to go home and dub over the entire section with another microphone as if it's really me talking at that time. If you've taken the time to read the description then you are in on that little secret..... but ssshhhh....... don't tell anyone, they'll never know the difference.

I really love and enjoy watching your videos, I am learning a lot. I learned to cut during pandemic/lockdown and now I cut my sister's and nephew's hair. I just need to buy a better clippers bec sometimes my nephew is complaining that it's not that smooth when I run over his hair, he wants make his hair wet first but told him that it's not right for the clippers.
That is true. If you wet the hair it will clump together and won’t feed easily into the teeth of the clipper.

I've been cutting my own hair for decades and this guy has similar hair to mine so I definitely paid attention. I scissor cut my own just like you did. The only difference is that I might use a teeth thinner shear lightly on the top after trimming it shorter.
It's not easy when your cutting with scissors yourself. Good job adding the little touch with the thinners.
@@theoneminutebarber Lots of trial and error but as I've said before, the only difference in a good haircut and bad one is two weeks......and don't attempt while drunk.

Speaking of which, Michael, I looked online at Jaguar scissors and there are a LOT to choose from 😱. And being that Ontario's still in lockdown, only essential stores/businesses selling essential things are open. Some are doing "curbside pickup" or delivery but I'm gonna have to wait to actually _physically_ try out some scissors, see how they feel. When you mentioned the thumb wedge on your scissors (I'll have to look at comments from your previous video), it hit me: ERGONOMICS!! So yeah, I'll have more than just price to consider, eh 🤔

Scissor choice is really difficult. If you buy the wrong pair you will be kicking yourself. I like the Osaka Vega scissors because of the pivot on the thumb, but I know other barbers who can't work with them. And my quartered steels, they are really just amazing scissors. I also keep tondeo tchiro scissors in the drawer. They have one micro serated blade which makes it feel like the scissor is really grabbing the hair. They are good for club cutting but I rarely use them as they are too small. For barbering you really want your main scissor to be over six inches. Somewhere between six and seven. I've had hairdressers come and work for me in the past and bring a 4.5 inch scissor. They are ok but it's a long haircut with such a small scissor.

A random orbital sander is good for the hard to heal parts. Great scissor work and excellent camera angles.

By all means show them a picture of what you want. without seeing your hair it's hard for me to say, there is a great style for every head of hair and the best way to achieve that is ask the professional in your life.

If I was buying scissors I'd go for either quartered steels or Osaka scissors. I use both and I know the quality is excellent with both.

Those timings should work. And sectioning the head will come in handy. I'm sure you have a trick or 2. I rarely use scissors but then, I'm not a professional barber.
It's good knowledge. You may not need it but it is handy to understand.

Is scissor cut better for fine and thinning straight hair.
It's a different style of cut is what I would say.there is certainly more control with a scissor cut so you can perhaps keep it longer in thinner areas. The clipper is very uniform and leaves you with the exact length of the guard all round. Also with straight hair it really helps if your sections are as small as possible.
Not a true batber IMO unless you can work your magic with the scissors! Excellent job 👍🏻

Hi, great tutorial btw I just Wana ask when u cutting the back & side bottom taper, why don’t u use a taper comb instead? I recently brought one and not 100% sure how to use it 😢
I've never used one either. That's the comb that gets really tight towards one end?
@@theoneminutebarber yes that’s correct big comb one end to graduate smaller comb the other end, that comb is design to do those kinda taper cut u did on the tutorial

These scissors are 'quartered steels'. They are Hitachi cobalt steel. If you are going for a scissor like that they may seem expensive but they will last your whole career.

Yes, I have looked in internet und researched about Barber scissors and they seemed to have very good quality. I am just starting now to learning and a month ago I purchased your awesome Barber course, you have done a great job Michael. My wife is hairdresser and I practice in her salon with training heads. Those scissors are a great investment and will serve you really well. I can do the open razor shaving but am probably not the best person to make a course on it as I'm far from a master.
It is something you can learn in a day though.

buena pregunta, corté el cabello dos veces porque el primer corte se trata de eliminar el volumen y la segunda vez estoy refinando el trabajo. También se va formando una malla de corte utilizando tanto tramos horizontales como verticales.

Seems redundant to cut then go back with scissor/comb. Why not just do scissor or clipper over comb from the beginning?
The hair was too long in the first place for scissor over comb. I could have clipper over combed it dry then fine tuned it with the scissors. Although clipper over comb can often end up looking too uniform for me.
What is redundant is asking a dumb question like that when he clearly said he cut vertically to remove the bulk first.

Thank you for using "difficult" real hair and hairlines to demonstrate!!! Most use a mannequin which really does nothing to teach anything. This is what I expected from paid education.
You are welcome, I occasionally use mannequins if I really want to slow down what I am talking about. Sometimes when you are working with a model you can only teach the haircut the model wants. But mannequins have the worst hair and rarely sit naturally. I loathe to use them but they are necessary for training.

Marie there is a bit of a story to that. I did cut the top, but deleted it from my SD card by mistake. Argh then spent about £100 on software and 6 hours trying to recover it.
