This song gets WAY better when you understand the lyrics. This is about the life of someone who commits suicide.
First verse is birth - childhood. 2nd Verse is highschool - adulthood. But after getting married, he finds himself in a routine with no real purpose.
Bridge talks about him reflecting in the mirror, considering putting a fake smile on but then quickly realizing he just doesn't have the will.
Outro is how he actually commits suicide (hung himself from tree branch).
When you match this story with the beautiful music, especially the calm parts, it becomes pretty powerful. Definitely made me tear up a little imagining being in the shoes of this man.

This is a really good opening track! The chorus and post chorus really bring out the classic Avenged that we're all used to.
Even tough I've been preparing for this album since day 1 of the release of Nobody, I'm actually not sure if I'm prepared to hear so many good songs from Avenged Sevenfold.
After 7 years getting 11 songs in one day is extraordinary. Were blessed!

I genuinely love ramp up of both the piano and vocals at 2:39 The emotion is so powerful here. It’s so incredibly sad, but I love it so much.

Beautiful. Have no words. First a rap-ish verse like a SOAD or a Limp Bizkit song. Progressive chords and rythm like a Dream Theater song. Faster than ever like early Metallica/Megadeth stuff. Calm parts and their contrast with the faster parts are pretty unique. Worth listening for sure.
Very well said! This album is has so many awesome transitions from Very calm to absolute chaos! It's so seemless. They have always done it, and done it so good....but this album is completely full of it...I love it!

@@A7X062388 I'm seriously considering getting the vinyl, how can you resist with a Frank Sinatra style song on the record, and they actually blew it out of the park on that song with the vocals and instrumentals as well.
Whether they meant to or not, these fellas made a killer prog metal album and its absolutely fantastic
I'm glad so many people don't like it, if you watch any of m shadows interviews he makes it pretty clear they don't focus on fan reactions. They, as a band, do what they love to do and they use what motivates them to do it! They are evolving and taking their life long fans with them as well as anyone who wants to join them. It's definitely not for people that want repetition.. and that is what makes it great!

I just saw them live in Quebec City (21-07-2023) and I loved it. this album is a masterpiece and the live performance is absolutely incredible. thank you A7X for your dedication. after listening the album 40 times, I can say how incredible it is! I was a HUGE a7x fan as a kid, when City of Evil came out. I remember listening to the self titled album while playing Metal gear solid on my PSP in 2008 lol. This album is the best they've put out in a while. Nightmare and the album after that just didn't feel the same to me, but I'm glad they decided to get weirder and proggier with The Stage onwards, metal is almost always better when you mix it with other genres
2:15 is probably my favorite part of the entire song with beautiful yet melancholy feeling to it . 2:40 paired with the badass piano with Matt’s amazing voice with back to the melancholy esc vibe at 2:48. Then going straight back into the chaos at 2:59 also the flute makes the entire melancholy part even better
