I've got a thing about ripples on the beach. Ocean does daily art, a soft beautiful form to leave your sprinting footprints in, I'm thinking about large 8 x 4 panels in polystyrene. Maybe hot wire carving followed by plaster of Paris for texture I have no wife or income haha lid like to get some perspective. On an unrelated tip, angle grinders are a bad design, they don't really fit lifestyles of useage *So* make yourself a handle that removes most of the pain . I have small hands & trying to grip a watermelon just hurts. Ergonomic creativity is just as important as art. Cheers. Happy Xmas
Good job. I follow him as well and his work could look so intimidating to attempt. But I’m glad you post this video and allowed others to see it. I guess it’s ok to take the plunge. Thanks again.
It was AWESOME to see it go so fast, too! The sanding part SUCKED but live and learn... next time I'll get more finishing discs or something. I think the scale of the project also makes a difference since I had tighter curves to get into.
Fantastic job for your first time, or any time. Just for your info, if you are worried about excess glue and things sticking to it, try baking paper not cling wrap as the baking paper is waxy and the glue doesn’t stick to it! You are using the angle grinder like a Pro!!! Keep up the good work! Cheers Sean
Very nice! I have a couple Harbor Freight angle grinders, and the HF carving disc, plus a few Kutzall shaping discs (yes, they are more pricey). The Kutzall discs are definitely better, and you can use coarse to fine discs to get closer to a manageable sanding stage. The flap discs work pretty well for sanding, but have their limitations. The Arbortech contour sander for angle grinders is a great accessory. It gets into nooks and crannies. If you stick with power carving, consider upgrading your accessories.
That's an awesome job. Looks good. I'm also doing power carving. The way you use the angle grinder with the handle on top looks awkward, have you tried with the handle on the side. Your hand may not get so tired. Anyway looking forward to see what else you come up with.
Sorry that I missed your comment earlier! Still getting used to checking for comments that have been held (not sure why yours was, actually). But you can find a list of supplies used in my blog post: www.uglyducklinghouse.com/carved-wood-wall-art/
Very cool project! I really like the depth of it, and done with inexpensive wood. Did you by chance try a flap sander? I'm not sure if that's the official name, but I have one for my drill that has a bunch of flaps of sandpaper that form to the countours of things. Sometimes you just can't get around hand sanding.
I did consider it, but I couldn’t find anything in my timeframe (stores were closed right as I got to the sanding part). I think if I were to do it again, I would have given the sanding part much more consideration (I did a ton of research on carving but nada on sanding, assuming I would have what I need and then didn’t!). A flap sander is well worth trying if you have one.
Yep, just a normal angle grinder. Or did you mean the cup wheel attached? I used both a cup wheel from Harbor Freight ($10) and then several flap disks. All attached to a normal angle grinder.
great work but let me give you one REALLy important tip put you angle grinder gaurd back on your tool... as fingers are lost every day by what you took away. and ive seen it done (live) you cant replace them. i agree nudgewood is a great artist
I appreciate the tip! The wheel I used had no “blade” like the chainsaw type nugeandwood uses (it’s more like a 5 grit sandpaper, if there were such a thing), and the guard is definitely going back on for any other attachment. I tried in earnest to fit the guard on this one and it wouldn’t allow it to turn (even though they were both from the same store!). If it were a cutting tool like the kind nugeandwood uses (like the chainsaw blade, yikes! Not for beginners whatsoever!) I wouldn’t have even tried, and in fact avoided any of the “cutting” type attachments for that same reason. Very good advice!

This turned out AMAZING!
Thank you!!
Just came up as I followed Nudge! Thanks for your first time comments on process.
Thank you! Such an inspiring artist and a fun learning experience
This is REALLY cool. I love how different it is!
Thanks Sam! I'm pretty proud of it.
The stain made it look more earthy. Great choice
Thanks! I think there are so many cool stains to try with carvings like this! I need to do a other soon.
But I love sanding... Great job Sarah!
Haha, I KNEW there was something wrong with you. Sanding is awful.
Great job, Sarah! Turned out great. A lot of folks have been trying power carving lately, really giving me the itch!
Do it! Let’s make it the next resin pour 😂
I was so excited to see this one!!! I've been dying to try a carved piece and you totally inspired me. Freaking fabulous!
Thank you! You should check out nugeandwood on Instagram... he's got AMAZING stuff and I was inspired by his work!
Nicely done Sarah.
Thank you 😁

This came out awesome, nice job!
Thank you!
Magnificent piece. Great work! Love it.
Thanks!
Very cool wood art! I'm definitely interested in trying this for myself!
I’m sure your version would look so cool!
great work Sarah . looks awesome
Thank you!
Nicely done Sarah. For sanding I use Multi-Function Oscillating Tool and for me it works the best. Tried some others, but this one works nice.
I love the way this turned out Sarah. I want to try power carving at some point.
Thanks Chad! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!
That's a great attempt at a first piece well done love using angle grinders in woodwork.
Thanks
Tim from Wood 4 Nothing
Another beautiful video. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching Adeel!
So cool Sarah! Love the texture and movement!
Thank you Kristi!
I love It. I have just glued up a load of wood to have a go myself.
This came out really cool! I love this type of carving i don't know why i've never tried it. Just subbed, looking forward to seeing more.
Thanks for the sub! You should definitely give it a try! I have a feeling this won't be my only carving. It's addictive!
Wow, very nice. This piece has inspired me to try something along your design, technique. Very cool and thanks.
Thanks Randy!
so fun! carving looks like a ton of fun! sanding, not so much. ha

Beautifully done !😊👌love it . Thanks

Great tip! Thanks for the info.
Great work! I’m subscribed!!! Can’t wait to try this!
Look forward to seeing your version!
Nice video and beautiful piece!
I have always wanted to make one of these, and your right. Most of the carving blades I saw in stores are well over $100
Nice work!
Thanks! And exactly - I was trying hard to find an inexpensive way so it could still be an entry level project. I hope you try it!

Beautiful! Can you pretty please tell me the type of glue you used to stick the wood together and the angle grinder and blade name?

I dig it!
Thank you!

Thank you!

That is great.
Thanks Jeromy!

Whats the tool called? I mean its an anglegrinder but is it just a normal flat grinder??🤔
