I've lost count of how often my eyes have seen this superb documentary, its six parts. Each and every one of them superb. It makes me dream and transports me to the historical past. Its silence enhances the mysterious and dream-like qualities of it. No superfluous and unnecessary narratives which only harm the enchantment of the place. The absence of crowds also contributes to the appreciation and understanding of the place, the times, culture and history of Pompeii and the Roman times. ROMA AETERNA EGO TE AMO !

I am working on a full Pompeii walk right now. I never posted part 7 because I had a corrupt file. I finally got that problem fixed. So I'll be posting a pretty long video of all of Pompeii. There is still a lot more to see. .....and I've improved my editing a bit so it will be a much better video.

This series is quite splendid. Just the right amount of subtitling and no pseudo-music in the background. So much more is now open to the public than when I visited long ago. Thank you very much indeed

Hey Dave, Thanks for watching! Would you rather see one long video that you go back to multiple times or is it better to have a series of short videos. I still have several more to make of Pompeii. The full walk is about 3.5 hours.

ProWalks Hey! Thanks for your reply 😀 I just love watching your vids..when my boys go to bed I turn on my large smart TV and play the Pompeii walks! And pretend I’m there! Haha! I also love how you put the certain ‘places’ into context. Explaining what exactly your looking at. I told my husband that when I do finally go there, I will probably start to annoy him because I WILL be taking my time looking around and looking at all the fine details..Your lucky to live there, and I bet you do visit the site quite a lot..I know I would 😁 yeah longer vids would be awesome! Please do that!!!.
Also, on your next walk, could you get a real close up of some of the petrified wooden beams if you can..that would be awesome! Thanks so much! Your my number 1 fan! Haha 🤣

Thank you so much for taking the trouble to walk around in the heat and film so carefully ! We have just visited Pompeii last week, and it was very busy, so lovely to watch this and experience it with you when it was so peaceful and no crowds. You showed a lot of the bits that we didn't see with our guide, although she was very informative and knowledgeable ( thank you Rosella ! ) She also pointed out the phallus symbols - to tell visiting sailors where brothels were, and pointed out the palm shaped indentations on the sides of the water fountains from countless hands placed there whilst leaning to get a drink. The wall niches in the changing rooms were for their clothes, and the narrow grooves in the ground at the entrance to the buildings were for gates to slide along. Magical place, you need plenty of time to experience it all that's for sure !

I have a new Pompeii walk posted by the way. I have more information in that video..but in short, there was an aqueduct that brought water in to a water house at the highest point in the city. From there, three large pipes spread out and supplied the water towers which then supplied the fountains, baths and some private homes.

I disagree, Jacob and PW. The folks living here then obviously had them on the minds and in their culture, else why would there be a penis on the wall of more or less every corner? Nowadays, we have house numbers or mailboxes in front of our homes, but the people in Pompeii had a stone penis?? To live as a Roman in Pompeii apparently means being preoccupied with penises, LOL. I appreciated the insight...however unintended...to the insights of the people of the city.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I am looking forward to seeing more of your work. Best videos of Pompeii I have seen. I think 20 minute segments are good. I for one, don't have the attention span or the time to watch a 3 hour video so I would have to watch it in segments anyway. You picked a great time of year to go there. No crowds. November or December. So that is when I plan to go there if I can. I was there once in June and did not see 1% of what you are showing. I made the mistake of going with a tour group so they limited us to a couple of hours. Big mistake.

Hi. Why those big stones were in the middle of the streets? Would it be to avoid chariots?

    • @ProWalks

Hey, I think those stones mainly acted liked crosswalks, as a way to cross the street without having to step in the muck or water.

Why was the penis so relevant in all those structures? Was it just a culture thing. I was looking for Pompeii and your video popped up. Binging them all. Great series.

Pool 13x 8x ÷ = 1,6 gold ratio, which means that, the Pompeii people know how to use the math and apply for architecture also, or this number is just coincidence, someone could explain it.

It has something to do with when the pavement was laid which was sometime before 44 BC.

Were the circled objects phallic symbols? You could have had a few words to describe them.

@@ProWalks Thank you for the inspiring tour of pompeii. The first symbol or form you circled was on a corner in aa block formation. The next was a arch keystone of a very large oven. I should go again and track the numbers. but circles do occur at these points. The first at the plane looclike a basic Phallic with scrotum aiming in t he direction of the street traffic. A direction sign maybe fit for Pompeii. With the sun shining and the green mosses piercing that massive brick work, I got to go there, my bucket list as well as Herculanium. Thank You.
