Michael now seems to like the idea of a foreign manager after querying Aberdeens decision of going with Thelin over the likes of Neil Lennon, Malky Makay or Jack Ross all of whom have track records of failing at smaller clubs. Only Lennon had any success but with a dominant Celtic side. Apart from that and an ok period with Hibs the man is an average manager at best🤔
Even Swedish football fans are shocked. I live in Sweden a chunk of the year & have seen Thelin teams for "years" . I remember when he was manager of Jönköpings Södra IF youth team that played against my sons club. His style hasn't changed much & at most clubs he has done ok to very well. I know he has been mentioned in Germany football circles before around vacancies BUT it's still a massive gamble . You can't pick out one foreign manager that works , & then ignore the hundreds that don't. The guys outlook of stay with what you know ( Scottish managers ) is correct a higher % of the time. You make rules for the majority, not for outlier cases .
@@camdenNW1 no you look for a manager with a track record in improving teams, that likes to play a style of play your club is looking to play. You don’t keep employing the same handful of managers that get sacked by previous club but because they’ve got friends in the Scottish media they just go from Scottish club to another Scottish club with very few of them having any track record of success. Thelin had been linked with some decent jobs over Europe. Turned down a couple of English championship clubs, a couple in Germany and there was another couple clubs
