The Labko Challenge: Can You Design a Better Character?

- Last time on Character Design Forge, we got all hyped up on creating Base Characters and ended up designing, 3D printing, and casting a character of our own. But not just any character- a character YOU can finish designing called Labko. Labko harkens back to designer toys and urban DIY vinyl.
Since last time, you folks have been making some awesome Labko creations and sharing them with the hashtag #Labko. So this time, I want to get in on the fun and create one myself. But first, I have to start completely over.

I do like how many people figured out how to use the Labko design. I didn't, but its cool to see the people that did.
Rubber stamp branding was a nice touch and a clever idea.

I think my favorite part of these couple of videos is seeing you work in other mediums, 3d printing, mold making, rubber stamping. In my experience it's easy to get tunnel vision on digital arts and forget how fun physical making can be. And I love the rookie design!

So cool seeing all the different directions that people have taken the Labko base. And it was great to see the little custom additions you put on the Kusa Labko (the hat, the mask, etc) to give it that dash of individuality.
Every week is nice, but a higher quality along with probably more well-thought-through content I feel is not only better for us on the receiving end, but as you mentioned it's better for your sanity as well.
Oooh I really love this! Def making my own, so many people were creative making their own. Wonder if mine will turn out great as theirs. c: Btw great video, the character you did looks great! It took me a while to get around to watching the previous video but I absolutely love the designs of some of the Labkos people made. Working on one right now that I hope to post soon-ish

Hiya! I actually downloaded the stl file and made a few edits. I love dragons and I made my sort of sona into a Labko by adding some dragon-y-er features. Still haven’t finished priming though, with moving I don’t have time anymore right now:( but these Labkos are awesome! Also, I LOVE rubber stamp-making! :) that’s a really great touch! Could you maybe do a video on mouths? I have a hard time with human mouths in side-view (some very severe cases of feature-creep) and dragon mouths in front view (Where do they open? How do you show them open or having a closed-mouth expression? Where do all the pointy teeth go???) if you’re too busy for that, I totally get it.

Yeah thats from the initial run, We added a few more after this video, I think there’s literally one more left that I cast and is up for sale

That look's like Teemo from League of legends, nice design :D

@@CharacterDesignForge The colors and the Yordle shape when turned into a Labko. Teemo is like a boy scout so he has an apprentince vibe to his personality as well ^u^ look him up, they are really alike if you put them one next to the other, the resemblance is crazy :p
@@joshicastvb146 Well it's not what I was trying to do, and having a character end up looking like another is a bit of a failure to me, so that's pretty unfortunate.
@@CharacterDesignForge But don't be sad, it's not a failure. Not even one bit, I love your designs and the way you teach. This design does look like Teemo but either way I think its pretty cool and stands out on its own. You are a brilliant and creative person and I love your art!
@@joshicastvb146 I guess it's just not coming across how insulting and diminishing it is to me to essentially say "the work you did designing this was wasted since the character already exists", or, an insinuation that a design was stolen/lifted/heavily inspired. Other than a tie around the neck and general forest theming I genuinely don't see a connection between these two characters, and it's one I wasn't very familiar with ahead of you pointing them out. I try as much as possible for me, to create new and original characters, and I think I was still successful in this instance.
