Because just like how drug addicts will waste their entire life savings on drugs, so will these people on their scammers.

@@Sandy-eb5eyExactly! It is always the feeble minded that talk about how smart they are. Like I always say if you are something people will know, you don’t need to constantly tell people. I picked up on that as well. We called it bragging. And, I'm sorry but she needs a little advice as to her style. A little update on her makeup and hair would go a long way.
It always gets to me when the victim says, “I’ve got to figure out how to end it” or “I need to tell him I know the truth.” Hello!!! There is nothing to end, and he has always known the truth. You were never anything more than a business transaction. His job was to get you emotionally invested. He never was. Not for even a hot minute.
Do you ever wonder if these scammers believe in God? There has got to be another way for them to make money. Why don't these people ever try meeting someone at their local church or book store?

Right - education is not the same as intelligence (I've known several educated idiots) and also being intelligent an/or well-educated does not mean that a person has ANY degree of street-smarts or insight.

I feel horrible for Curtis. These scammers not only victimize the women giving them money, they victimize the people whose pictures they steal. I get a lot of random friend requests and messages from guys with similar pickup lines to what 'Shawn' used with Nancy. Difference is, I am a skeptic and seriously doubt anyone starting off a conversation with flowery language and extolling how beautiful I am. I also pick up on linguistic aberrations. I engage in chats with them to find out why they sent a friend request and how do we know each other. Best one was a guy who said he got a Master's degree from a private middle school, said he attended a college I used to drive by every day and lived on campus (commuter school, that was impossible) and that he was raised in a town near where I lived for many years. I asked which school did he go to in that town, what street did he live on. In the future, Nancy should 'trust, but verify'. Use google image search or tin eye to look for a potential suitor's images. If they don't have an online presence or are contacting you from a relatively new social media account - RUN.
I have a 43-year-old, male friend who was clearly being scammed but refused to admit it. I believe it was just because of that teeny, tiny chance that it was real. I suspect it would still be going on but he ran out of money. He even tried to get a loan from a bank but the banker told him he was being scammed. My friend stomped out of the bank. It’s taken about 2 months for him to wake up to this scam. In the meantime, he got evicted because he gave the scammer all of his money.

As a 54 year old woman who would like to pay her mortgage off I’m seriously considering making a fake profile for these delusional women 😩
LOVE THE IDEA! Better yet, pull delusional men, you can use your voice (with a bit of modulator) and make sure to get the voip number. Plus take money out of your bitcoin wallet as soon as they send it. Good luck!

As a single mum really trying to stay afloat and feed my kids and break out of poverty I too have thought of doing this!
I've played around with the scammers on facebook. I start asking for money back telling them I'm stuck in Nigeria etc etc

He received $3 mill from the job but can’t pay tax? How can this lady believed such bs.
Right, and most likely the money would have been a bank transfer, not a check.
Delusional full of self importance nothing in her life empty thinks she is in his league
And they're always in jail, but still have their phones and able to use messenger or WhatsApp 😂😂
He HAD 3 million dollars in his possession, he said. If that's true then he had to have had the money for the tax as well. Then he's begging $250 for food? Ridiculous. I can understand someone falling for a well concocted scam, but these romance ones are so unbelievably ridiculous. The only explanation is that this must do something to the human brain similar to a drug high. Because just like how drug addicts will waste their entire life savings on drugs, so will these people on their scammers.

No lady, you *do not know Kurtis.*
Exactly! That infuriated me like crazy when she said that while smiling ear to ear, she doesn't know him, all she knows is his face used to tell utter lies and she somehow still thinks Curtis is her Shawn. It's like in her head she assumes the actual Curtis decided to basically role-play as this Swedish Shawn character for so long while sending obviously bad photoshopped pics and despite being rich, begging her for money, who wouldn't actually be a scammer but is real and would surprised her with a prank catfish show. Like what's not getting through to her?

It’s taken about 2 months for him to wake up to this scam. In the meantime, he got evicted because he gave the scammer all of his money.
omgosh, so where does he live now? how does he live? wow..
I don't feel the slightest bit sorry for him.
He deserved everything he got. If he hadn't have run out of money or gotten evicted he wouldn't have woken up!
Our self-hatred and loneliness can cause us to do irrational things. It is scary how that goes.
These best thing would be to stop sending money and see if they still want to talk to you.
He is so right about social media platforms really doing nothing. Shameful.
Exactly. All social platforms are all the same, it is a shame.
Social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter need to do more to help their subscribers stay safe from scams. It's their responsibility to protect their subscribers from scams
The world is a dangerous place, and no one should rely on other for their safety.
Get rid of the internet and they are all screwed xx
I wonder how these platforms get so big despite not having a way to solve the users' problems.
Now she wants Curtis 's number ! 😂
All she cared about was his looks and intellect. Their conversations merited nothing to gain her love. Super shallow
Looks, I can see as unimportant but intellect....
It’s so cringe when they do the video calls and how happy they are to see the person 🥴 like she’s smiling away while he’s saying how he’s been pulled into police stations.
Her: “I love Winston Churchill! Do you know any quotes?”
Them: Google Winston Churchill quote and copy-paste first result
Her: “OMG you’re such an ✨intellectual✨”
Lady Astor said, "if I were your wife I'd poison your coffee"
He responded, "if I were your husband, I'd drink it"
When a lady addressed Churchill with ‘Sir, you are drunk!! He retorted, yes ma’am but, In the morning I will be sober, but you, you will still be ugly’
Very intellectual !! 🤷♀️not
EXACTLY WHAT I THOUGHT.
i love how her bar for someone being intelligence is knowing who one of the most famous people of the 20th century is lmao
