Great episode. Shows the honest situation so many small businesses find themselves in. Trying so hard to expand, while still doing a good job, pressures involved in taking on new staff, making the time to keep improving how you work (organising the storage unit etc). Keep up the good work.
Great video . Completely agree about accountants. Mine are truly awful ! Inspirational what your doing Sam . For every good day running a business there will be 100 bad ones. Just keep getting out of bed and doing your thing and fight to change the odds is all we can do
Accountants almost finished my business a year ago. Ended up with a winding up order from HMRC because of there terrible communication. Thankfully got through it and out the other side. Sacked them and moved on. Difficult times though that I hope I never return to. Lesson learned for me was to now hold 3 monthly meetings with them to ensure all outstanding issues are closed out efficiently. Good luck.
Yes absolutely, glad you hear you got through it. It’s such an overlooked side of business. However I am hoping our new ones continue to be loads better!
Congrats on the baby, glad to hear your still growing. So glad we used you guys, even now other electricians come to our house and comment how tidy your install is and it makes them match it (which is good for us)
You can always report tye accountants to their professional body, especially if they are giving your new accountants a hard time, they have a duty to hand over properly.
Congratulations on your soon to expand family, look after yourself and Jess it is a very stressful time, beyond anything previously if this is your first child. Some things to help with quality, have the team take a standard set of key stage photographs which you can review at leisure for every job. Keep them in your customer files as they will be useful if there are issues or for future upgrades. You can map the standard photos you want on every job and just add extras if there are special features. Also great for training and certifying new starters. Get a stock control system that ties into your system builds so you can check and book out stock as it is used. It can also track historical stock values so you know the current item price you’re holding and the stock replacement price from your wholesaler. They should all link in. Easy to print job lists with all the parts to check off. The details are only entered once when the job is planned. You then know the stock commitment for all approved jobs. From a health and safety perspective I would suggest marking clear ways on the floor which enable clear access to the storage and work areas. You need more delineation. Between access, work areas and storage areas.
As someone new to this field, I'm eager to set up solar panels and seek companies that offer devices enabling real-time tracking of my solar panel electricity production through an app or monitoring system. I'm curious about the reliability of these companies and the quality of their products-any guidance or recommendations would be immensely appreciated.

Congratulations on the new baby. Set reminders to check no matter how busy you are certain financial items during the year. Always worth doing.

The accountant at a company I dealt with stole around £120000 and almost bankrupted them. They had no idea until he disappeared.
