What a great job you have done in such a short time , Seren. I am sure the previous plot holder would have been proud at what you have done and pleased the plot is in the hands of such a cheerful and enthusiastic person.

Sad story about the previous gardener. He would be so proud of you for picking up where he left off. When you garden time just vanishes. Youre doing great.
Hello Seren from Perth, Australia. I have just watched your interesting vlogs. Seren, I've seen many people come and go from our allotment site. You can usually tell within a few months those who will succeed and those who will fail. From what I have seen you will succeed...good luck.

You’re doing an incredible job!!! I can’t help but think the previous owner had a hand in choosing YOU to take care of it and to make it the wonderful retreat he wanted it to be!!!

You are so natural and relaxed, it's really nice listening to your commentary. I love how you interrupt yourself when you notice some bird or a frog, that's how my brain works too 😂
A suggestion with the greenhouse, you said in past video you are going to do a shape bed with some shelves in the corner. Have you seen the fold away shelves you could install during the spring when you will need the space for all your seed sowing. Then you can fold them down and use the border when you plant your tomatoes/ peppers.
A tip for the netels! If u remove them put dishgloves on! The rubber ones they are long and thick. They wont sting u! ❤ i really really love you videos keep going🎉🎉
My suspicion when you took over the plot was that there was some sort of tragedy in the past. What I find so disheartening is that other plot holders in the area would treat your space as a rubbish dump. Keep going! You are doing so very well!
Between the pond and greenhouse, I thought the same: that someone was making a really lovely space before something really hard happened. It definitely makes it worse neighbors dumped stuff.

This is what I got on google lol... "Because they're perennial, fast growing and spread quickly via underground runners, two or three harmless-looking horsetails can quickly overwhelm a large planted area. Once established, a patch of horsetails seems destined to remain there forever, because these plants are virtually indestructible."
A local (Ontario, Canada) u-pick strawberry farm lost quite a bit of acreage to horsetail. It was expensive and labor intensive to get rid of it. Like nettles, it spreads through the root system.
Collect all off your stinging nettles in a separate black bag tie it closed and leave it for 8 weeks and after 8 weeks lift it high and put a hole in the bottom Collect it in a bucket this will be mutch stronger than nettle tea and you won't waste a water butt
Keep it up Seren, you're doing great, as you say, it will give a much better impression after you clear the front area, then hopefully people will respect your plot space ! There are videos about making simple picket fence from old pallets - it might be a nice feature at the front of the plot !?
I have a similar story I don’t have an allotment but a house with a garden just a little bigger than your plot . The previous tenant I learned had died . The garden was soooo overgrown grown that you could not see the back, just the little patch in front of my patio doors and the garden gate to the side of my house…. I have a shallow butler sink , a tyre, a spoon, rubbish, balls, lots of brambles (which did produce lots of delicious blackberries last year) poking up everywhere and endless amount of stones/rocks/rubble (which I have found a toad or two under , I did turn the sink into a pond but it was so shallow I decided to make a deeper pond) I have been here nearly 15 years it’s a lot better but still has a long way to how I vision it (there have times when I didn’t do anything to the garden , felt like giving up , such a mammoth task but since lockdown I have made such progress 😊 my vision for the garden seems much more possible. I live in the countryside so lots of birds visit my garden…. but there are also lots of cats including our cat (though I am pretty sure our cat has retired from bird chasing yay) . You are doing a great job with your plot and though it’s a lot of work you will get there bit by bit /step by step and it’s a joy to see a mess become a masterpiece! 😁
How long did it take for the brambles to stop coming back up? I've moved into a rental where the previous tenants just didn't care, and some of the brambles are about 4 meters high at the end of the garden 😓
Enjoying your journey Seren, love that you can't wait to get back to your allotment. It's taking shape. Sad story with the previous tenants but how wonderful that you'll think of them as you keep working. He would have been so chuffed.
Harvest the nettle leaves for eating and use the stems and ugly bits for nettle tea. I blanch my nettles and put thrm in my freezer and use them in omelettes, fried rice, soups...
You have definitely caught the gardening bug, That is Comfrey for sure it flowers in April great job so far. A very sad story but I am sure they will be so pleased with what you have done.
It's looking a lot better. As much as a messy plot/garden can look daunting... those small victories you get from clearing little patches at a time and being able to then look back and see the difference really do make it worth it. You've made some great progress and I look forward to seeing what it looks like when it's all cleared :D
Garden blowtorches do a great job with nettles. They just need a lick of flame and they wilt and die back. Each time you do it they're a lot slower to regrow.
If you want you can dry all the nettles, in the greenhouse and use it for tea later, or just directly as a cover for the soil…. The warms will take care of it not the roots only the green part👩🌾
Great video. Thanks for the updates I can't stop watching your progress it is a joy to see how you are transforming the plot. I too lose track of time when I am at my allotment.
Was gonna say borrow some muscle to help for a day. But after watching this you don’t need help. Good little grafter. If your ever in Doncaster you could come and help me. Keep going you will enjoy it even more when you start harvesting 👍
Hi I think your spot on with the bags of soil and stones I would put the stones at one end of your pond to make a slope for wildlife to get out. That's a good way of reusing those stones. This is controversial but I would use weed killer to get rid of the nettles and the asparagus type things popping up unfortunately is marestail a very hard weed to get rid of keep pulling it out as soon as you see it it's a bloody nuisance but try to keep it under control. We'll done
I've heard that using weedkiller on the horsetail / marestail weed is not really worth it because you have to use so much to make a dent, it will make the plot so full of chemicals. Unfortunately I think just cutting off the top every time it shows up over the next few years will be the best bet as it will eventually run out of energy if it can't photosynthesise
I know exactly how it is when you live in London and have an allotment. Not much wildlife at home but so wonderful to have a plot with all that you are lacking. All the backbreaking work is paying off and plot looks really good. Kudos to yet another young person taking on an allotment. Your health will benefit greatly, exercise, fresh air and above all, fresh food. Love watching👋👋👋
Those things did look like asparagus except they were red. Weird. More zombie apocalypse! Lol. I'm with you...spiders, snakes and wasps. I can live without any of them! So sad that the previous owner didn't get to see his plans come to fruition.
Great progress, Seren! Well done! Yes, thanks, I got more seed sowing and planting done today. 😁But I'm looking forward to warmer and calm Spring weather!👍🌻☕
I subscribed as another young uk grower, I know it’s early days but it will take years for us to build empires lol your doing amazing. I’m watching you from Scotland so opposite side of the country.. keep up the good work x
You’re doing an amazing job and I’m sure you are making the previous owner proud. To help with nettle stings dab some lavender essential oil on them. They’ll soon stop itching.
We were the same had to take over a plot it was a massive plot lile double and everything was overgrown, but now have finally sorted it all out and the best bit is to take before and after pics least you can look back on the hard work youve done, your doing a great job keep uo the hard work its all worth it in the end. We have a bird food bit now and we have loads of robins visting us now love it, be great in the summer. Enjoy every moment ❤
Any of that pallet wood ect is no good if your allowed to have a controlled fire burn the old pallet wood and use the ash as pot ash or layer for the compost. Word of warning when building raised beds or anything make sure it has ht stamped somewhere which means heat treated timber which is chemical free and safe to use and burn.any other pallet if not ht stamped it has chemicals that they treat the wood and must at mo cost on the plot as will remder your growing spaces no good basically chemicals will seep into the soil. All the best and yes brillant job your doing and the previous plot holder will be so proud of you bring back the plot to a great growing standard. ❤
Great video. You are achieving so much every time you are on the allotment. Sad to hear that the previous tenant never got to experience his hard work but I’m sure that he would be proud to see what you have achieved so far. As for the weird looking weed, I think you are looking at horse tail weed. Don’t put in your compost bin as it will spread further. Maybe look into how to eradicate it. Well done. 👍💕💕
I think the previous owner would have been so pleased with how hard you've worked on this plot. I'm still amazed at how fast you've transformed and restored it. On a side note, does the pond have something like a ramp for the small wildlife to use to get out? I know its often recommended for all ponds, and the edges of a bath will be especially slippery. If theres nothing like that currently, you can probably use one of the bits of wood you don't care about as it'll rot anyway, until something more permanent can be added 💚🐸
I do comfrey tea for my garden plants . And when I'm out of tea I just the leaves on each plant and I also but my grass clippings around each plant tomatoes first then the rest too keep the weeds down and keep the plant from too much rain water. Because I get the rainwater off of my neighbors gutters. I've been putting comfrey around the fencing area too keep weeds at bay.
Thank you for another great vlog! I've been watching them while planting seeds and repotting seedlings. Looking forward to see how the allotment turns out!
Regardless if the plant is comfrey or not, it's a bioaccumulator like comfrey and it's great for both "chop and drop" mulch or as a "tea" component. I can't remember what it's called. If there's space, put the compost at the back, that way it's handy but not in your way. I have the "Dalek" composter, want two, maybe three to turn the compost better. Love the braids, my child would like to do this but the hair just slides out. 🙄 Amazing progress. Maybe find a small decorative item just for smiles when you get tired.
Try using baking soda on the nettle stings. You may need to soak for a few minutes, but I know baking soda works for insect stings. Comfrey also works. Ugh, tough work dealing with someone else's leftovers.
Definitely looks just like my comfrey. They're lovely when they bloom and are such fast growers. Hopefully they're one of the sterile hybrids so they don't seed themselves everywhere. Sounds like you already have a good plan to put them to use! I also use them to chop and drop as mulch on my beds.
You are doing a great job, it all takes time just do what you can its a working progress, you could compost down the nettles if you chop them up or as you said nettle tea. keep up the good work mate, it will pay off in the end. best of luck from Wrexham
Your doing a great job Seren ,so much energy and positivity keep going ,my last plot was in the same state i had to drop an old shed and loads of rubbish ,i managed to get myself a steel drum with the top cut off and i used it as a burning bin i got rid of loads of rubbish that way and you can use the ashes on your beds
re the dock v comfrey debate, I checked my plot today and I had both young dock and young comfrey side by side. Yours is definitely comfrey. High in potash, great alternative to tomato feed. Chop up leaves and cram as much as you can into a bucket (preferably with a lid because this stuff will stink), then cover with water, stick the lid on and leave for a few weeks. Strain the liquid into a suitable bottle and put a capful into your watering can when you want to feed your plants. Toss what's left after straining onto your compost heap. If you want to make a feed for leafy greens, go through exactly the same process but use nettles, which are high in nitrogen.
What a great job you have done in such a short time , Seren. I am sure the previous plot holder would have been proud at what you have done and pleased the plot is in the hands of such a cheerful and enthusiastic person.
It is quite emotional. I only hope that someone someday will uncover the many gardens I have established in my lifetime and treasure some of my plants. That would be an amazing testament to my work.

The garden is an alternate reality for me. A sweet space. I understand your draw to be and stay there 😊
Congratulations on passing 2000 subscribers already. 🎉
What an inspiration you are! Well done for all of the hard work..and still smiling😊.
Superbe vidéo
A bientôt
Great video. You are achieving so much every time you are on the allotment. Sad to hear that the previous tenant never got to experience his hard work but I’m sure that he would be proud to see what you have achieved so far. As for the weird looking weed, I think you are looking at horse tail weed. Don’t put in your compost bin as it will spread further. Maybe look into how to eradicate it. Well done. 👍💕💕
I am impressed with all the work you have done and I am sure the previous owner is smiling as he/she see’s their vision coming back into production
You will have to set up a bird table and feed those little birds. They will love it.
Love watching your progress. But most of all I enjoy your upbeat personality. Keep that positive vibe. Good luck Paul
Thank you so much Paul! 😄
Cute plaits x enjoying your videos
I do comfrey tea for my garden plants . And when I'm out of tea I just the leaves on each plant and I also but my grass clippings around each plant tomatoes first then the rest too keep the weeds down and keep the plant from too much rain water. Because I get the rainwater off of my neighbors gutters. I've been putting comfrey around the fencing area too keep weeds at bay.
Happy Easter. You are doing so well. ❤
Thank you for another great vlog! I've been watching them while planting seeds and repotting seedlings. Looking forward to see how the allotment turns out!
Your doing so well don’t be discouraged by the mess, you will get there. Happy Easter to you too.❤
It’s looking incredible well done x
The story at the end was so sad! But I'm pretty sure they would be happy that you take care of the plot now.
Amazing progress. Maybe find a small decorative item just for smiles when you get tired.
Try using baking soda on the nettle stings. You may need to soak for a few minutes, but I know baking soda works for insect stings. Comfrey also works.
Ugh, tough work dealing with someone else's leftovers.
I had to dig up a rose bush at my father-in-laws last year and I bought a shovel that has saw-like edges and it works great to cut through roots.
Oh those do look like comfrey plants.
Just came across your channel and I thought I would subscribe looking forward to seeing your knowledge grow in gardening
In Canada we call that plant Horsetail. It has been on the planet for 300 million years.
I just had a quick Google - they're very interesting!
@@serensgardenI have a thick carpet of them growing around my pond. I like how primitive they look.
With 2.5K subscribers, I wonder how many are close enough for a work day? You’ve done so much. One work day, you’d have all the rubbish cleared out.
Looking great.
happy easter youre working so hard well done it ll be full of veg before you know it
re the dock v comfrey debate, I checked my plot today and I had both young dock and young comfrey side by side.
