Yes, when i were a lad back in the 1970s, Cos (named after the Greek island) was the most popular variety of lettuce, but it is fairly rare nowadays as it is mainly called Romaine instead. 🙃

It seems very difficult to grow bell peppers in Britain, so maybe overwintering is the hack required, so that they have a head start. Haven't done it myself, as i don't have anywhere to overwinter them, somewhere both warm and light.

You’ve spurred me on to plant some more, I planted some early on but only a small amount, I’m going to plant the other 2 bulbs I bought, forgot about and found today! 😊

Hey seren don't say you won't grow carrots and parsnip because you will eventually and even if soil is stoney theres no real proof it will fork or grow crooked and as a part of the gardener community you will see the unspoken rule of your first ever carrots and parsnips of the allotment growing crooked think of things in a none serious way and live a little. The plot is there for trial and error and knowing you grew your very own vegetables. The pride one feels at there first ever allotment veg growing journey is epic and if things grow crooked just be proud of your success also crooked veg makes a good topic for a humourous conversation. i am on many vegetable growing groupsand so many gardenimg members have had a blast laughing at there dodgy looking veg especially when they end up with human type anatomies it makes ror a great giggle and brings the community together like a family.

Hi seren plot looking great and better word of advice when you grow pumpkin up that archway grow smaller varieties and rotate your pumpkin archway location as pumpkins dont grow well in the same bed twice

I have a couple of resident blackbirds that clearly done follow the ‘no dig’ theory! They make such a mess everywhere!!

A scrap metal pile? We don't have anything like that! No manure, wood chip drops either on our plot.

Hi there i am new to your channel and i love how quick you made progress at your new allotment plot and i have a you tube channel i can recommend you to watch the creator is called emma bailey her channel is called Emmas allotment diaries her vlogs are very entertaining and helpful she has had a allotment plot for 5 years and and about a year ago she got a second allotment plot shes doing a mini series for new allotment plot holders. Emma also has videos of how she transformed her new allotment plot into a growable space and hers were very over grown you should watch her and kinda of learn the dos and the don'ts of allotmenting and stinging nettle can be made in to a tea for your plants emma has a vlog on that too hope it helps

Those racks could be covered with polythene and made into propogation houses or the one look like it could be laid on its back covered with fine mesh and used as a cloche to protect young plants planetd out from wildlife.

Do you blink back at the cat when he slow blinks at you? Slow blinking is a cat's way of looking for reassurance that you don't want to fight. If you slow blink and hold out your hand a good distance so that they can smell you without worrying you're going to snatch out at them, then you'll be able to build a relationship with the cat over time until they know they can trust you.

When I planted out my garlic, I used long grass cuttings, dried as a kind of mulch which worked to keep the squirrels and rats out because I put it on fairly thickly. It insulated the soil, and I noticed far fewer weeds could take root. All the cuttings were just clipped from around tree bases that had overgrown. I pulled the roots out and dried those completely before adding to the compost bin. Looks like you really got some nice goodies for your plot too. 👍🇨🇦

some gardener I watch says that the recommended plant distance on the back of the packs are meant for the big farm industry, and us who plant at home or on allotments can with good conscience plant things closer than advised.

How did you get such beautiful cloves? I don't know what I did wrong this year but none of my bulbs turned to cloves. I have left them in to see if they do next year.
