    Thanks AK! 😂 So many great tips to try! I parked my keep up with youth ego at a trail head some years ago. Since then I've had great experiences with youth on trail. I usually end up saying "You go ahead, I'll see you later".
    As always enjoy your content. Also loved the beautiful scenery & music at the end! Makes me want to get out for more!!! Best Always.....Bob V

      The young hikers I’ve met this summer have been awesome. We share a zest for life, and that overrides any other differences. Thanks for watching.

      Yes, my friend, our devious natures, would lead to trouble on the trail. I hope you’re enjoying the last of summer, and a few good cups of coffee during the mornings.

      Yes, and they shoo away the early morning predators, too.

    Hilarious! I love it! Yes, it irritates me to see younger hikers breeze by me all day and then pass me again on their way down from the top when I'm still a long way from reaching the summit. I guess I'll just have to fantasize about Chainsaw Charlie waiting for them down the trail. That will make me smile!😆

    I and a buddy I met on trail partnered up in February, we are hiking the Olympic National Park in Western Washington…we turn the Lake Angeles / Heather Park loop trail - 13.5 miles / 5200 feet in 6 hours and 15 to 45 min depending on weather …. We do that once a week, the other two hikes we do every week are both 9 miles/ 3900 feet….we do those right around 4 hours even…. We are both 62, seldom get passed by anyone. I have used some of your massage tips to help. I will tell you, it’s a hard workout keeping moving at that pace, week in and week out…. But happy to be doing it. Great vid !

      5200 feet is quite a day. Roughly 500 feet a mile is a challenging grade, too. Nice work, and thanks for inspiring older hikers by your example.

    Oh my gosh! I laughed all the way through this! Spot on Ray! I just finished a 3 day PCT section hike in WA with three 20 something friends. It amazes me they like to backpack with almost 66 year old me! They were jumping up rocks as I hobbled my way up with trekking poles as my needed second set of legs, not to mention the downhill. How do they run with all that forward momentum and not trip and roll off the side of the mountain?! HA! I had a couple trips over rocks and roots! Stopping to admire the flowers and take photos of the scenery was my best excuse, and I used it often! It is a real head game for sure and reflecting back, comparison kills the journey! I almost talked myself out of my upcoming trip with the same group with crazy self-talk that I'm just getting too old and slow for this! NONSENSE! Granted, I am getting older and slower, but not for quitting! I must say that if younger hikers want to hike with us, then by all means, count it as an admirable pat on the back. They obviously see something in us that encourages them. Just think, they'll be old hikers like us one day! Thanks for the laughs today!

      I think the younger hikers like our stories. It’s wonderful to see pics of you with your tramily. I think it inspires other older folks toward taking a different perspective and direction in life. Looks like you’ve completed many many Oregon and Washington PCT miles. Happy Trails, Maureen.

    Ego? Subconsciously yes, but once I realized they were 'breaking trail' for me and while they were attempting San Jacinto, i.e., and failing, I was saving time, energy, tread, and money, all the while catching up to them each time. jejeje I had to listen to the Metamucil bit three times b4 I realized you were being "lighthearted" Very good sir!

    Hahaha! I like your sense of humor. I make sure I'm the one carrying the bear spray. Actually, I prefer to hike my own hike. I haven't found a better hiking companion than my husband. If not him, then I'll go alone.

    • @pikeshike
      @pikeshike 5 місяців тому +1

      On the AT I carried the bear spray and I have a lot of outdoors experience so the younger hikers felt safe tenting next to me 😁 Actually they called me trail dad. I had ten bear encounters in Virginia while the younger hikers saw one or none. I guess that had something to do with earplugs, talking and noise from trekking poles... When you meet a lot of bears you also get more useful bear experience to share with others. I met several hikers that didn't "believe in bears and bear hangs" 🤗

    A Loser video. Hike solo or hike with folks in your age group. A senior citizen who has forgotten his youth. Young folks don't particularly socialize with senior citizens, if ones remember that they did not socialize with senior citizens when they where young.

      On the contrary sir, lots of young folks socialize with the older, wiser generation for many reasons! That's why AKWild1 created this video! I'm way older than my backpacking/hiking partners and they absolutely love to hike with me and learn from my experiences. I, in turn, learn so many wonderful things from them! What a wonderful world we live in where all the generations can share experiences and mutually enjoy each others company! Might want to give it a try sometime!
