Great video .I finally found a matching dell stick thinking that was my only option. Now will purchase better ram. Thx.

Sorry to say that I don't really understand all this tech talk but would like to simply know exactly which replacement RAM should I purchase for this XPS 8940. I have the factory installed 16 gigs RAM as you stated. I just want to double to 32 gigs RAM to effectively do my 4K video productions. Please advise. I have sub'd your channel. I hope that you or one of your subscribers will reply. Thanks much!

Is that the case with the Dell XPS motherboard? I also have one and I'm considering buying a new set of RAMS, but I heard that the Dell motherboard slows other RAMs down...

The other ram slowed down is still faster for gaming lol

@@CoilWhine Nice to know! Do you know if it is still better for video editing?

Id think either would be the same

I got myself the same prebuilt DELL XPS 8940 3060 TI Single 16Gb RAM stick 2933 Mhz and I was hating on the performance of the 3060 TI for the longest time...
    Games were stuttering like crazy.
Recently decided to try new RAM for the computer to see if that increases the performance and boy…. I swear I pull off at least 10 FPS more on every single game I play.
It is RI-DI-CULOUS. I wish I had swapped my RAM sooner on this prebuilt.
Funny how I typed "DELL RAM sucks" in the search bar and stumbled upon this video right away with the same build I have. LMAO

What ram did you upgrade to?

I get that the ram sucks. So for consumers using dell 8940, since H470 does not support xmp profiles, does this mean we are in a deadlock but to stick with this shitty ram? Any recommendations regarding ram sets we can upgrade to?
Hope you can do a video testing different ram on 8940 and benchmark it as it will be very relevant for 8940 users as well as other consumers using dell prebuilts. As so far i know the ram sucks, but no suggestions on what to do next, which is disheartening tbh.

      i feel you.
Im looking into the xps right now, from what i can tell so far, the xps runs it at 2666 cl19, which is better but not great, running the corsair ram in the system results in 2133 cl15 which from what i can tell should be slightly better (i have ran any benches ON the xps) but not enough to justify buying new ram unless you can flip your old ram to fill the gap.

update to this; after running some benchmarks on the xps its the same, running corsair ram at base speeds is faster than the stock dell ram. Took the 10400 i have in there from 120 to 128 fps in shadow of the benchmark

@@CoilWhine Thank you for your testing! Also, anothing interesting thing to mention is that brendangreenley.com/undervolting-2020-dell-laptops-like-the-vostro-7500-and-more-tips-to-improve-thermals-battery-life-and-speed/#cpu-undervolt from here, i did this and was able to remove the overlocking lock and cfg lock, which i then able to undervolt my 11700 . The author said that he didn't get xmp to work on his laptop, but here i'm wondering if enabling xmp is doable here since from dell forum, i remember reading that the H470 motherboard did recognise xmp profiles but did not explicitly appear to allow selection of the profile. It is possible that xmp selection could be possible through the method referred by the brendangreenley post. Unfortunately, i do not have xmp ram lying around to test this. If you could, this might be something you may wish to delve into. In theory, while we cannot go pass the mhz limit of 2666 and 2933mhz limit of H470 motherboard chipset, we could lower our CAS latency by sourcing xmp ram that supports profiles with 2933mhz CL16 (i.e. corsair CMK16GX4M2Z2933C16) for example. Let us know the results if you do. If it is indeed possible, then it will be very hopeful in that dell consumers can upgrade their ram to memory size, 1Rx8 and also reduce their CAS latency.

That ram sucks big time, one more thing to swap out should you ever buy a Dell pre-built :)
Oh and btw Buildzoid did a deep dive into the X16 ram thing, why it is slower etc..

Did he? I mean the logic is sound; more memory modules, faster random read/writes

@@CoilWhine Not sure, it gets complex. A x8 uses 4 bank-groups, while x16 uses 2 bank-groups. The 2 BG being slower than 4BG due to something something sub-timings. Here.. enjoy ua-cam.com/video/k6SIdxq2yxE/v-deo.html

it does suck right. i tried to think of why, and i think i might have the possible reason why. my guess is because dell xps is basically their "high end home general use computer", and their "alienware" are their highest end gaming computers. i am pretty sure the alienware comes with the better ram, probably better cooling as well.
i think putting the terrible ram in the xps, was one way the alienware would outperform the xps, so people would be willing to pay more for the alienware.
alot say the XPS are gaming pc's, but they really are not. they are capable, and with mods, can be pretty solid, but as is, they are end up general use pc's and not gaming pcs. i guess ppl just can't
    understand that. its whatever.
