We have finally gotten behind the wheel of the new Compass Trailhawk, an SUV that can venture further off-road than any Compass before it. It also adds in the convenience of a 9-speed automatic and the bonus of a BS6 compliant engine as well. We tell you how it fares off-road, on tarmac and also if it’s that diesel automatic option that so many of you have been waiting for in the Compass India lineup.
The Jeep Compass Trailhawk is powered by a BSVI compliant 2.0-litre diesel MultiJet motor that makes 170PS and 350Nm. Other powertrain options include a 1.4-litre petrol making 160PS and 250Nm. This is mated to either a manual or an automatic transmission. The other diesel variants of the Compass are powered by the same 2.0-litre motor in the Trailhawk but only come with a 6-speed manual transmission.
The new 9-speed gearbox definitely takes the stress out of having to deal with that heavy clutch that the diesel manual variants were quite infamous for. The Trailhawk also gets a massive mechanical boost that gives it some very impressive off-road abilities. And the BSVI compliant 2.0 Multijet diesel is also happy to run on BSIV fuel till the new grade of fuel is available later.

Fortuner is a better option now
Price should be down no? They won't comprise on performance. They have to import many parts. Important tax is 200%. Eg, 1000 rs stuff costs 3000 rs. In lakhs 2 lack item become 4 and 8 lack become 16.
I don't know how many users actually use automatic headlamp and wipers. I find it extremely useless feature. Although memory seats are good if you have multiple drivers but for single driver use, memory seats setting won't matter also.
Not Jeep's fault ....we indians wont pay fr such comforts ...we need answer to only thing ...kitna deti hai...
I don't know about the electrically adjustable seats but auto lights and wipers are not viable when you're out in jungles offroading.
It's competition is at least 10 lac more expensive with not as significant technology for offroading. Also Jeep drives far better than Fortuner and company. Not every wants a massive car. It's perfect for young people who want a car that is a true Suv and drives great.

Awesome review. Now it's fully loaded to be called a true off roader. Dare those soft SUV do what she can ride :) it's perfect, and cut down are also right if u r going to be truly off roading in deep waters

The 4WD Lock mode does not lock up the transmission to 1st gear. The 4WD lock mode locks up the differential and power is sent to all wheels irrespective of the traction each wheel is getting. This is very important during rock crawling and dune dashing.
Even if anything does go wrong, Jeep’s warranty and maintenance is for 50000 kms or 5 years. So you’re well covered.
Sir one doubt I've here in 6:04 minute 😊 : - Means from standstill, it take offs from second gear ? Even if the vehicle is full of load of passengers and boot ?

Eventhough its more capable than any normal 5 seater 4wd vehicles currently available in india under 30 lakhs, this still misses out on a proper low range gearbox or diff locks which is there in serious offroaders. The ground clearance 205mm which still is tad less than Renault Capturs(210mm). Would be a good buy if the price is around 20-25 lakh, but if the price is north of 28 lakh onroad investing 10 lakhs more for an endeavour or fortuner would be a better option I think..

The only disappointing thing is the 17-inch wheels while I was expecting atleast 19-inch or even bigger like the fortuner wheels which will help to overcome the obstacle's on off-road very easily bigger wheels also help in increasing the ground clearance .

Jeep has a history. brand naam ka bhi koi cheez hoti hai. If i want a serious offroader i'd go for jeep compass at this particular price but if you say fortuner has a seven seats thats why you shed extra bucks over it. And thats why ppl buy fortuner extra seats and road presence and yeah i own a Merc G wagon 😂.

If I would to choose an off roader for 28 odd lakh INR, I will go with either the Endeavour or the Fortuner. This puny thing cannot match those for off road capability. No matter what add on badge the Compass wears.
