    Of course this isn't an ordinary tote bag. It is a PERFECT tote bag--one that a leatherworker would be proud to have made. Thanks again for your excellent tutelage.

    Great looking bag! When I make mine, I stitch the pockets, closing snaps and handles before I stitch the sides of the bag. It makes life a lot easier than trying to stitch when the bag’s been made. I also use the rivets for the handles to fasten the pocket(s) inside. Saves time and rivets and makes the pocket fastening invisible.

    OLD LEATHER SMITH here, Excellent Job as always Suggestions, since I hand stitch everything like you do, when I have a large flap that gets in my way I have found a way around that problem, I bought 1 long piece of 3x3x8ft and made a L shape stand with a leg on the bottom that I could anchor 2, 1 of my benches, this way I could move it at my convenience, I just hang a string with a clip attached 2 hold the flap out of the way, since I make moccasins I have learned how 2 turn them easier, I originally used a broom handle, but found a closet clothes rod stouter, I round one side of sand smooth, place at the floor near a wall I did rubber band leather on the other end so as not 2 slide around, both work great, Great Video thanks again, GOD'S BLESSINGS ✝️⚾🙃

    OMG, you hand-stitched everything. I was thinking that you would have used a machine to do the longer parts. I need to start leveling up my skills with folded edges and piping. By the way, I will be using some harvested furniture leather that I hunted down. 😂

      You can use a machine for this bag but I prefer hand stitching and as a lot of viewers don't have a machine then it allows them to see how to make this bag without one 👍

    Good to see someone else using 3.38mm irons on a tote bag. I’m going from 6mm down to 3.38 the samples so far look much more refined! Not much of a difference appearance wise from the 3.85 irons that I wanted to get but was sold out. Now I can rest easily.
    Thanks

    hello dear friend, i enjoyed the videos and i like your English accent cause i'm learning English by listening to many videos, and i saw you folding the edges of suede leather, i want to advise you to get a help of thin comb may be you can break some of needles of the comb to create a space which will help you to assemble correctly the glued parts with a perfect line, god bless you . i'm from Algeria, Northern Africa.

    I am surprised that with your delicate hands, you do not have finger protection. I made some leather thumb and middle finger protectors to push the needles through thick places almost like thimbles. I also use some small needle nose pliers to pull the needles out of the leather?

      I've been doing leather craft for 15 years and my hands are used to all the stitching. I did my apprenticeship in saddlery and we made a lot of hand bridle work with lots of stitching so that helped get my hands used to it. I don't really like wearing anything on my hands or fingers as I can't feel what I am doing as easily.

    Love your content. About to purchase pattern. I've never stitched longer than a womens clutch. How can I hand stitch such long runs with a single thread? How long would you estimate? Thank you!!

    • @JHLeather
      @JHLeather  Рік тому +1

      I don't worry about using a single thread for long lengths.of stitching. The thread is unmanageable and tends to get fluffy over long lengths. I use a double arms width for all my long stitching, then do 1 and a half back stitches and start a new thread from there.

    Nice. IMHO. I think that you should use cattle split with a thickness of no more than 0.8 mm as a lining - this will make the product lighter. But for a bag for everyday use, leather is not suitable as a lining, since it is prone to dirt (grease). The best solution in my practice is a removable lining made of thick cotton or gabardine.

    I was very confused at first because you were demonstrating gluing & folding over the top edge of your bag. However - in the product there are NO folded over edges. Confusing? You betcha. Then later you added the lining. Why show the folded over edge at the beginning?

    • @JHLeather

      Because this outer bag is made in 2 pieces and where the bottom joins the top part there is a folded edge
